    I have this camera and I recently got it ! The camera I love it personally I love how you can take it under water and you don't have have to be afraid to take it in . Now the settings that are okay ... me personally I have to use pop art!

    This is a great camera for vlogging, I own one and use it to vlog with all the time. I do get the noise that you get but I don't let it bother me 'cos it is not that loud. I do notice that when the zoom is used that there is also a grating noise, probably from the movement of the lens. Overall though you get a lotta bang for your buck and the security that if you drop it out of your hand onto a hard service or water, that it is not going to break. I go kayaking and I did buy the flotation strap for it so that if I accidentally dropped it in the water I would not lose it. I love this camera and I also did a review of this camera on my channel. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone who wants to vlog or even the adventurer that goes out hiking, climbing, kayaking or mountain biking. Its a great camera in my opinion.

      I used it on my last vacation. If I'm going to be near the water (pool, beach, water park, etc.) I've got this little guy with me. It's not perfect, but it's a nice wide angle lens, a flip-up screen, and ultra tough, which is awesome.

    I've had this camera about a year and one of the things I am impressed with is the audio quality, especially for a waterproof camera. No clicking or hissing at all on mine. I've had several waterproof cameras before and the audio was always horrible, I could "scream" at them from inches away and barely hear it in the recording. The audio on my TG-870 is loud and clear, and even records in pretty decent stereo considering the microphones are right next to each other. My main complaints are it uses a non-standard USB8 (8 wire) cable that as far as I can determine only Olympus cameras use. I have a big box of USB cables but when I misplaced the cable for this camera I had to order a new one, and they're a bit over priced. And the Image Stabilization is bad. Stabilized video looks like a drunk simulation and makes me a little dizzy to watch.
    This camera has been discontinued and is difficult to impossible to find for sale anymore.

    I bought tg-870 tough specifically for the GPS function. At that time it
    was the only camera on the market that included GPS. Curiously, phones are equipped with a GPS and few cameras offer this function. I travel constantly and it is invaluable to be able to pin point where I took the photo. I can’t be the only person that wants to Geo tag their photos.

    Thanks for your review. I am looking for a good camera and I have always had great service from all my Olympus cameras I have had in last 30 years. I just got a refund from Target for the GoPro Hero 4 Session which initially looked like it was going to be great but turned out it had a complete brain malfunction (!) and failed me so many times it was just a totally unreliable useless thing. The Olympus has everything I want from a camera meaning stills and taking movies whilst being able to withstand all conditions. I think I will still get this one.

    My wish list for this camera. It does not have a time stamp. Only has a date stamp. What I like with this camera is it can be powered by an external battery pack. Very good for long drive captures, and non-stop time-lapse (when in sports mode).

    I opine I haven't heard any such noises; beeps etc that many cameras have for press buttons etc, can be turned off; outside if wind blowing there is a feature to subdue it. The GPS and Wi-Fi seem good especially the former for confirming the location of photos eg off-road. I can also take a quick shot when using DSLRs to show location by shot on each. The panorama feature took me a while to get used to ie speed of panning but does give imo excellent shots.

    I was going about to buy this camera, but after seeing this review I am concerned about the hissing and AF noise. Can you please recommend some good alternatives , I need a shock proof and water proof travel camera. TG-870's flip out screen is the most attractive feature for me not found in any other cameras in this class. But I shall look into your/other viewers proposed options. Thanks.

  • @theheinzification

    It is not. I bought it because of the articulating screen and the wide angle lens. The basic photo quality is worse than I expected but not too much. The specific cable you need to charge it with is a pain in the ass. But the really horrible part is how this camera seems to achieve the wide angle view. It totally distorts the images. When you do a selfie with several people, so that one is more on the edge of the photo. His or her face will be deformed. The more straight edges you have in freehand videos, the worse. Most videos I took so far are close to unusable or downright seasickness triggering.
    Also as a minor point: The only scene thingy I've used is for under water, but it totally messes the colors up, even under water.

    • @theheinzification
      @theheinzification 8 років тому

      There's more. Maybe I did something wrong, but it was very hard and extremely slow to get photos and videos from the camera to the phone via wlan and also it ate up the battery very fast.
      It records videos as .mov-files. As a consequence you can't send them using Whatsapp once you have them on your phone.

    This is a great camera... the one fault is that it is a tough camera with a very vulnerable screen. The very first day I used it I scratched the screen up. I know I did this to the screen.... however I trusted that it could take it. I was sitting in a boat and the camera was on the wooden seat the movement from the vibrations cause multiple scratches. A design with the screen turned inward while not in use would make this camera a truly tough camera.

    Hi! I really like your videos! Great reviews. I came across your channel because I´m looking for an overall waterproof camera, for video blogs, )I like the flip screen)excursions, vacations, hiking, etc. and I was wondering about the hiss and vibrating noise on this camera. Did you found a solution? has all the Olympus have this issue? Cheers!

    I ran over my TG 870 twice, it flattened a bit and the glass viewer broke but it still worked just as good as if I hadn't run it over twice, then I traded it in for the new Go Pro 7, sure wish I hadn't.

    The wire ribbon between the body of this camera and the flip up screen breaks and turns the view screen black in a very short time. Happens to all sooner or later. I read a review where a father bought three of these for his daughters for Christmas and all three failed in the same way. Also no help from Olympus. They will be glad to take your money for repair but it will be a recurring problem.

    Yeah so I just checked out beachcamera.com and with the clicking that your hearing on auto focus and hissing on sound? The old saying you get what you pay for is true in regards to this review. When buying a refurbished anything, which is what you did to get it for 230.00. I just want the public to know that while watching this video understand the camera he has is a refurbished and not brand new. Other than that the camera is really great for the price.

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  7 років тому

      Nope, not refurbished. I ordered from Beach Camera through Amazon, Condition: New, for $229. Clicking on my order details shows it at $279 now for exactly what I ordered. I just happened to catch it on sale. Looks like it dropped to $229 for about 2.5 months last year: camelcamelcamel.com/product/B01950SVYW

      Not a problem. I must have caught it at the right time.
      I will say, I held onto it. The minor autofocus clicking really isn't that big of a deal, for the type of videos I use it for (mainly things like going to the pool/beach when I want a slightly nicer looking video than the GoPro with an optical zoom)
