Notice that Fern's bracelet the Lotus is in full bloom, showing that love has or will blossom fully into it's full form. Frieren's ring, however, is still a simple bud and hasn't bloomed yet, showing that Himmel's love will never fully come to fruition, even if it still exists and is still eternal.
I just recovered from this episode, and now you have opened the wounds again. 😢
But he's dead. That's the tragedy. He loved her most of his life, showed it to her in so many ways without actually telling her, then loved her even for the 50 years she was gone. Then he died. It's only now, 80 years after these events, that Frieren is finally understanding how much Himmel loved her.
When she said she didn't really know him in episode 1, I don't think she realized how much she knew about him until she thought about it now.

Little detail, when Himmel puts the ring on Frieren's finger, there's a clock in the middle of the background, meaning that "time" is the only thing between them 🥲

Himmel didn't tell Frieren because he knew the consequences to Frieren as their lifespan are vastly different. He didnt want Frieren to suffer. This will be shown or subtly explained in later episodes.
I think this is a wrong theory. didn't tell her what? he literally hinted her for 10 years, but she ignored and did not notice it. This is a story about regrets, isn't it? you think she goes to heaven to meet him to say "thank you, is it good that we didn’t get married and spend your life together"? this is nonsense

He was that obvious because it was frieren who he knew would't get it at that time. if he wanted her to know he'd actually confess to her in as way she understands. he is smart and really considerate of others. he'd just keep it within his heart and let her live the way she always did. I wonder if when she actually makes it into aureole and meets him he wouldn't mind being open about it. I think as she is on her current journey she gets it somehow. idk about u guys but I think they will meet again and that explains why we never seen them saying goodbye to each other because I quote "goodbyes are embarassing if we meet again later" - himmel.

A beautiful detail of the ring scene with Himmel and Frieren is the clock tower between them, because time is what opposes their relationship. I'm still not sure if Frieren didn't understand Himmel's gesture, or if she always knew what it meant and didn't dare to reciprocate.

Yes, Frieren looked at the ring in episode 1, after Himmel’s funeral.
The moment Himmel gave Frieren a ring to her hand. The clock tower is between them. Symbolizes that separates both of them is TIME.

It may sound like an overreaction, what the priest told them - how it was too late for Stark but that just goes to show how talented Sein is, being able to cure him so easily.

me too it's so funny. and i love how every single time, frieren assumes all warriors do this and fern needs to reframe it and say "maaaybe eisen was not normal" ^-^

But it isn't freiren's fault too because even after ten years, she didn't feel the same towards himmel and he knew that, he was in fact in peace with it and he died happily after seeing the girl he loved and yes it's tragic but it's beautiful, cute and fills the hole in my heart that I never knew existed.

Himmel may not have told her, but he showed it in so many ways trusting she'd know in her own time. It seems like he devoted himself so much to her, he didn't get married after their adventure or have another woman in his life.

YEs, I feel that Stark and Fern are this groups stand in for Frieren and Himmel. I don't think Himmel was proposing to her but giving a give in a chivalrous way as we'll see in next episode when a man gets down on a knee in front of a girl.
