I have a theory that the reason they were able to enter the church at all was because the bishop did was cause the church to become deconsecrated grounds with his actions. Under normal circumstances, they can’t enter a church at all if it’s consecrated.

Something to keep in mind about vampires in general mythology: they're typically creatures who, since they're divided of the Mortal needs to sustain life, usually seek out their passions, whatever they turn out to be. Study, violence, hedonism, but for Dracula it was just love. But, their psychology is so different from us mortal creatures in that sense, that their propensity to go overboard is the greatest flaw. Hence, all of Castlevania.

A lot of the demons they give screentime to in this show are really charismatic and great orators, its weird but it's a really nice touch, very Dante's Inferno, where all the demons had a lot of things to say about their metaphysical experiences and tended to wax poetic about the nature of the divine, punishment, and good and evil.

This show is brilliant at using objects to give meaning to the dialogue. The bit where Alucard is talking about why he is choosing to stop Dracula and how they are all slaves to their families wishes (while picking up Trevor's whip with the Belemont crest on it) is just gold.
God I love how top tier Blue Eyes is in this episode. He doesn't deny or dismiss God in anyway he just sits there fact checking the Bishop like 'Dude he isn't here and he won't defend you, why do you think I'm here?'

to answer the questions about dracula's castle, yes, they where in drac's castle, the castle itself is a living entity, the falling apart and tearing down it was doing while they where going to the sleeping soldier was literally the castle's defense mechanism trying to kill them,, the reason their weren't many monsters down their is because dracula didn't think a belmont would show up, the castle can be everywhere and nowhere in all time and space all the time, it's basically an eldridge horror that does not bend to any for or conceptt of reality, you could go to the toilet in tokyo,, pop a squat, and walk out inside dracula's throne room if he or the castle willed it, to put simply, castle is magic and it does what it wants when it wants
I never thought of this until the repeat viewing for this reaction but the first episode introduces Dracula, the second episode introduces Trevor, the third introduces Sypha, and the forth introduces Alucard. Each character got this own episode in a way, even if Alucard only showed up in the last few minutes and Trevor had a non-speaking role in episode 1.

Hellfire and blood raining from the sky, literal evil-incarnate appears from the flames to tell you "you done fucked-up, leave this place while I'm still in an agreeable mood", monsters from the pits of the darkness come to rip the people of your cities to shreds multiple times, a flesh-eating demon waltz into your church - so-called holy ground, a place where evil can not enter - to tell you personally that you, just you, specifically fucked-up, and you still have the sheer audacity to think that you were still in the right for killing an innocent woman just because she was a doctor who practiced in the medical sciences. Also, fun-fact about Alucard: Before Symphony of the Night and all his bishy-boy edgelord glory, Alucard had a drastically different appearance, he looked like some kind of sleazy, used-car salesman looking-ass.
I love how they integrated the monsters burning up in the games into the animated series by having them explode when struck. Makes perfect sense too why that's a good idea, as something blown into bits can't be resurrected again.

12:06 one hand behind the back is not necessarily flexing, but a fencing technique to avoid getting hit on your most exposed part: the hands. Your sword-hand is somewhat protected by the hand-guard, but if you are not using a buckler or dagger in the off-hand it is very exposed and could be sniped with a quick jab by the opponent. You loose some utility of course in the way of grappling, but especially for duels to first blood, hiding your offhand behind your back can be a smart thing to do. The sword-pushing is ridiculous however. But as it is clear that both only do it to flex on the other one with their strength I can forgive it. ^^

Your sword-hand is somewhat protected by the hand-guard, but if you are not using a buckler or dagger in the off-hand it is very exposed and could be sniped with a quick jab by the opponent. You loose some utility of course in the way of grappling, but especially for duels to first blood, hiding your offhand behind your back can be a smart thing to do.
The sword-pushing is ridiculous however. But as it is clear that both only do it to flex on the other one with their strength I can forgive it. ^^
I was feeling shitty then this video popped up and made me feel a bit better.
