I played for decades using a Metal Zone. I recently bought a multi effect pedal.... and I still use the exact same sound my metal zone has.... I'm going to hell...
I love a heavily overdriven tone, I like the chaos in the sound, I don't even use a compressor or noise gate.... My bassist and my drummer keep everything in check because they are saints
Technically, the correct answer is whatever matches the vision of the band or artist. Personally, I would split the signal and do the "your friends" blended with either a clean amp signal or the "sound techs" and play with the levels until it sounded right in the context of the mix, and glue together with parallel compression, then boost the level.
Paul is a pretty good guy and has good intentions.... But sometimes he's just a little..... "out there". That's why we keep Paul around. Cause every once in a while, he nails it. We all need a little Paul in our lives. For those times when we want to be "out there" as well.
Jokes aside, I'm struggling with this issue. I like to play 80's metal like Metallica and Slayer, and while I'm not trying to copy anyone's particular sound, I'm just looking to get a decent metal tone in general. Sometimes I'm satisfied with what I have, sometimes I'm not. It still seems like there is this fizzy sound going on "behind" my sound, but I just can't find a way to dial it out, even just slightly. Now, I only have a Katana 50 MkII, but people claim that the fizziness can be dialed out by using the Boss Tone Studio, but I must not understand what I'm doing. If anyone can suggest anything, I'll give it a shot. Maybe someone can point me in a better direction.
Started playing on cheap amps so it was always gain at 10 and whatever distortion was on the goofy little combo amp also went up to max. Bad habits are hard to shake😂
I mean 1st and 2nd had a more clearer crunch tone while 3rd had a more fatter grungy tone. Different tones for different purposes. We don't talk about Paul's one, I think it's clipped way beyond the limit. 😅 Also, nice guitar. I like those models of Charvels as well.
I love the way you play and your tone I started at about 30 years ago 35 years ago now when I was about 30 years old I was always the singer in the band. Had no idea what I was doing I thought the musical alphabet one from A to Z😅 pretty funny huh anyway I'm absolutely completely self-taught just playing by air I want scales and I learned chords I kind of learned a little Theory but backwards. I'm glad I learned that way I don't play like anybody else just recently I learned to play other people's music I have always written my own I just wanted to see if I could do it. But it just sounds like me trying to play somebody else's song. But I can tell you're not really good guitar player just by hearing how do you play in the social short video you got your own sound and that's a cool thing. I don't know a lot of players are you famous. I'd like to hear more of your music
I LUV UR SONGS “it’s not serious “ !!!!
Hey thanks! I appreciate you listening to my songs 🤝
Fr that song is a banger
If its not a completely unlistenable muddy mess, whats even the point.

PAUL AIN'T KNOW SH!T!
Best part is…..they’re all 100% unequivocally CORRECT!!!!! Love the feel of the playing here…
Not if you’re playing metal. If you’re playing metal, you’ve gotta have really high distortion
@@anakinlowground5515 so do you skip the intro to “Fight Fire w Fire”….seeing it doesn’t qualify as “metal”???
Either use 3 metal zones or quit playing, I don't make the rules
Maybe I should actually try this
I played for decades using a Metal Zone. I recently bought a multi effect pedal.... and I still use the exact same sound my metal zone has....
I'm going to hell...
I do make the rules, and I won't apologize for this one.
I literally bought my MetalZone off my friend Paul
Rules??? You lose already!!!
Being a sound guy and being called Paul I approve of Paul setting
I can still hear distinct notes. You must use more
The friends one is perfect
Proof that tone is the friends we made along the way
I liked the first one the best
Unfortunately, paul was the only fruend i made along the way, and he's got about 8 years left in maximum security @@jordanwav
3 and 4 are the best! There’s a clean slightly overdriven tone then a muddy fuzz!! LOVE
Honestly, every single one kicks ass in the right context.
Paul is a wise man!
As a sound tech I can confirm. We are control freaks KEEP IT IN THE MIDDLE SO WE CAN FRANKENSTEIN IT IN POST.
Paul is a wise man.
I think 2 is very reasonable, that's about what I do depending on what I playing
I switch between ,,,all sounds,,,on a tasty jam,,I like em all,,,,ROCK ON BRO!
Great video, i'm using a DAW and been having to mess around with a lot of different settings to get the sound right lol
paul mode just sounds like dinosaur jr
Sound techs definitely have it right. That’s perfect.
Paul is an international treasure
Paul nailed it
I love a heavily overdriven tone, I like the chaos in the sound, I don't even use a compressor or noise gate.... My bassist and my drummer keep everything in check because they are saints
I’d listen to Paul he’s one of the greatest bassists and lyricists of all time
Paul's on the right track...
As a paul i fully agree
That’s why we love Paul
I feel like distortion wasn't the only thing changing here
as a paul I agree wholeheartedly
Lol me too.
I’ve never seen so many Paul’s in one place
Thanks for the advice man, my sludge doom metal band has never sound better thanks to this clip here.
As a Paul i do gotta say:
I have comitted several war crimes in Uganda
Always defer to the sound engineers. I always do and its worked to my benefit
Paul here. You finally hit the right amount of distortion
Paul sure likes red by king crimson Hahaha
Depends on context. Genre, pickups, etc
PAUL IS RIGHT
Both are sweet
sound techs sound is kinda clean and noice, but paul knows where real fun is
As i am paul, yes, thats perfect distortion.
Oh man, that 4th one is just so true.

I need all of it at once !!! Plus 11/10gain
The last guy is the entirety of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
They have multiple albums where the guitars are like only plinky clean tone lmao
Love Charvels. I went to look at one with a student once. I had the cash to buy it if he didn't want it. He did. DISAPPOINTED!!
paul is the mvp 🎉
If it ain't red, you ain't trying 😂
Paul clearly likes the same bands as me
And as usual, the sound tech is right. Saving musicians from themselves since always.
Wow you are truly great... You def have unique talent and great sound... Will look for more
Paul is a pretty good guy and has good intentions.... But sometimes he's just a little..... "out there". That's why we keep Paul around. Cause every once in a while, he nails it.
We all need a little Paul in our lives. For those times when we want to be "out there" as well.
How do you get the loudness meter in the Video? Wich programm?
It’s just the logic master gain. Not distortion but I felt like this video needed some kind of visual

I LOVE THEM ALL!
I never knew my first practice amp was called Paul, didn't matter what you tried to dial in the overdrive at, it always sounded like you set it at 11.
god damnit Paul
The last one is literally just Big Muff distortion that you hear in Dinosaur Jr/J Mascis songs
I mean 1st and 2nd had a more clearer crunch tone while 3rd had a more fatter grungy tone. Different tones for different purposes.
We don't talk about Paul's one, I think it's clipped way beyond the limit. 😅

Whatever you want is the right answer. If you want it to sound muddy as hell go for it, thats why they let you pick that setting
Doom players suggest the most all consuming crunch possible
But the 3rd option 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
My name's actually Paul. Amd I approve this message.
All those sound pretty good to me lol
Not even joking, I kinda liked them all but the first one haha
I think 1 and 4 almost the same, but the first one just more a little bit than the 4th one

A rare breed of Paul, respect 🤝
I always put my gain on 8-10 lol
the friends one sounded better than tech
I agree with studio tech for once.
I liked the friends level
Your friends got it right, though Paul does have a good case too!
And Paul is absolutely right
I like the way Paul thinks
Sound Techs Know Best
Can’t really play doom metal without lots of distortion
Let Paul give you advices. he's a true one.
I never felt so proud of my self
Real friends would say dump the pink guitar!
I'm playing metal so I'm gonna put on as much distortion as possible
i mean metal is definitely more so boosting high gain with overdrive, distortion makes it less hard hitting and more messy
HM-2 all the way
@@tonysbuddy22 Interesting
they all sound epic but i like the last one

2 is good enough. 4 is definitely too much in my opinion.

Paul is right, every time
