He always wrote albums depending on where he was in life and wrote the songs accordingly and 90% of the time about actual incidents. World coming down was the darkest of their albums and he had went through a lot of bad relationships and deaths in his family,not to mention...his 4 sisters had him committed with an intervention...was at 12 bottles of wine every show and coke. But hated them for it during that time. He was a humble guy and didn't think highly of themself but is that one-of-a-kind singer that will never be replaced or duplicated, ever.....EVER!

Great choice of song. World Coming Down (the album) is an interesting one, as it ditches a lot, but not all, of the humor and really gives an insight into what Peter was going through in his life.

This whole album is amazing. You should really do a complete listen through. It's complete with segues like the Ænima album by Tool and just flows beautifully. At least do the Everything dies video, such a beautiful song.
Everything Dies is probably the most heartfelt, genuinely sad song in the (metal) genre. Of course this is a generalisation, plenty of bands have beautiful songs with sad subject matter but there's just something about how honest Everything Dies feels that makes it way more special than any other really is able to be - at least out of everything I've listened to to date.

I will be honest i haven't been able to listen to everything dies in 5 years with out crying so hard i am dehydrated. i want to see them react, but i don't want to cry like that.

That's one of the main things Peter wrote about, anesthesia for instance and the fact that he was hurt in a relationship and a lot of his songs or about relationships gone bad. It was basically a shy guy and didn't like going overseas to festivals at all and basically ended up getting betrayed by his four sisters and every girl that he's ever met basically. But yeah he wrote all their songs and it was usually about something that happened to him.

yeah. Not the short version. I used to listen to that until i found out about the studio version, which was even better than the radio version. The ending riff is so haunting and sad.

I shook Peter's hand at a show during the World Coming Down Tour. He was the nicest guy despite his huge appearance. He asked me if I enjoyed the show, I said yes, I drove five hours to get here! He signed my World Coming Down cd insert, got Johnny's autograph too... when Peter shook my hand, my whole hand disappeared...lol💚🖤
One of my favorite songs of theirs. Especially love this live version. World Coming Down is the darkest album they have, Pete was dealing with a lot of depression around the time he wrote it. Such an underrated band

The real question is: is someone "holding him hostage with out demands", or it is Peter putting and keeping himself there. Self-Sabotage. "I know that my world is coming down and i'm the one who brought it down." Hands down this is my favorite album. Pretty impressive that dark, deep, and depressing themes created this beautiful piece of music.
Its ironic that you picked a live version, because Peter had a hard time performing the songs off this album live because they really bothered him. Due to that there are were very few live versions of this albums songs.
If you do want live Type O (with good quality sound) check out the Bizarre Fest Live recordings from 1999.
I think he might have been alluding to his substance abuse holding him hostage, or maybe people he was using with, but knowing that he put himself in that situation… I can relate to this tune more than I wish I did

World Coming Down was the most serious album TON made, btw. All of their albums have puns and humourous, random stuff in it. This was the only album where there was nothing funny on it, it was all very serious. This was the time when Peter was using cocain heavily, he started using in 97 I think?.... This album was released in 1999. If you listen to the song White Slavery from this album as well (phenomenal song, btw), that's about cocain abuse.
Type O Negative is absolutely the most criminally underrated band of all-time. R.I.P. Green Man.
Saw Type O live in Chicago, 2006-2007(?), with Celtic Frost... man, Peter's voice still sends chills through the whole body.

Tripping a Blind Man (another serious song) or The Profits of Doom (a tongue-in-cheek kind of song) would be great to do next. The meaning behind Tripping a Blind man really got to me.

Peter Steele's lyrics are definitely an anchor for me in troubling times. Many people think that listening to sad or depressing songs when you're feeling down makes you feel worse, but for a lot of people those songs help carry you through.
With Type O Negative, a negative plus a negative can absolutely equate a positive!

The bit about the mirror could be looking at himself, or it’s also a device used to snort cocaine off of, which is one of the many double meanings Pete used; further gazing at his reflection while destroying himself… it’s a lot to bear
Watching all the Type O reaction that you both have put fourth you can see the growth and appreciation of their style and music. To me, that is the best "Type Of" reaction.

Imo one of the most haunting pieces of music ever written. I was very young when I first listened to this album, but I knew it came from a very dark place. I could sense it. “She’s thinks I’m iron man, that I don’t feel pain.” I’m so happy I got to see them in my lifetime.

“Winter” - Oceans Of Slumber. You guys will love it, especially Sori. The singer is angelic and the male vocals are heavy as hell. Definitely my second top pick behind JinJer for female fronted up and comers.
I think what Type O did well was show a brutal, honest portrayal of masculinity; good, bad and indifferent

This is my favorite! There are so many wonderful Type O Negative songs you should do. Red Water, Wolf Moon, These Three Things. The Dead Again album has some songs that reflect Peter's return to a relationship with God. You should give it a listen!

Awesome review. You guys rock. You should review These Three Things off of Dead Again. Dead Again was the last album before Peter died. He had gone back to the Catholic Church and some of the songs covers religious topics. These Three Things is one of those songs. It is a 14 minute epic that takes you on a journey and it is all about religious topics and prophecy. BTW - Peter wrote a song similar to the topic of Wings for Marie from Tool but it is heavier. It is called Never Enough. You should check it out.

This is one of my favorite albums by them it was very serious after Peter's mom died he was thinking of his mortality heard in a interview.
