My late husband and I listened to this the first time with our jaws on the floor. (He was my contribution to the marriage. I brought Tool, T.O.N. and Bill Hicks. He brought Stu Hamm, Roy Buchanan and John Lennon.) They had such a way with a cover. They did indeed cover "Black Sabbath" and it took, like, a half hour. There was nobody like Steele. (And I can prove it. I still have the Playgirl pix.) Their Beatles medley is NOT to be missed. Not to mention their cover of "Summer Breeze". Steele and Josh Silver play keyboards in the band, so yeah, there's a lot of keys on board. Harpsichord and the like. Steele was a conflicted Catholic, giving God the finger in the 90s and begging forgiveness about a week before he died. (I'm being facetious, but the spirit is there.) Wisdom allows for a change, they say. BTW, go/no go on that January thing? If you have occation to listen to Type O's "Christian Woman", make sure to listen to the *whole* *thing* . That radio edit sucks and you get only half the story. Thanks for these, Momma. They were worth every penny.
email me about the January thing. I asked for the details but I might have missed your reply. ( therealmommaog@gmail.com). Just tell me more about what you're thinking. I'm happy to oblige if I can. I have a lot of things going on these days but let's see what you have in mind!. Thanks for sharing all that info with me!
Heya Momma! I was quite surprised to hear you say that you weren't familiar with Type O, considering we share similar musical tastes. I was introduced to them back in 1994 when I came back stateside and was attending university. I purchased 'Bloody Kisses' (93) and 'October Rust' (96) shortly there after. I really dig their music, but I have to be in THAT mood. My person favorite tune is the LONG version of 'Black Label No. 1' at 11m14s, not the radio version which most reactors listen / react to. Peter Steele has an interesting and quite sad biography. May he RIP.
Bloody Kisses (Death in the family) and All Hail and Farewell to Britain are two of their best, but all of their songs are amazing. One of the best bands of all time.
Well, You mentioned Black Sabbath similarities and You are right☝️. Black Sabbath, although regards as pioneers of heavy metal is considered also as a first band incorporating first doom metal elements. And Type O Negative members were often mentioning Black Sabbath and The Beatles as their inspirations, so You clearly can hear those elements in their songs🙂, especially very slow tempos with droning guitars which is characteristic to doom metal structure. They even covered several Black Sabbath songs adding their distinct flavour to them👍 remember☝️ they didn't treat themselves too serious, they were really funny guys and their lyrics often contains tongue in chick elements, not only serious ones.😁
The last lyrics on the Unwound Album "Fake Train" are Justin Trosper Screaming "THE WORLD IS COMING DOWN". That came out in 1991... Wonder if there is any inspiration.

When you said, "hear that crash cymbal." It's actually a China cymbal. Just thought I'd let you know. Peace.
