I think the 2nd logo from 1973 is the most iconic one for me since CBS reused the same logo and animation for its 2021 version albeit with a new revision of the first half of the jingle and the last five notes of the current CBS logo from 2021. Nothing beats animation that’s ahead of its time along with a catchy beat, especially for the 1970’s! It’s incredible! 😁👍
1980’s, too. Gen X remembers when this logo meant we were about to watch a Charlie Brown holiday special. It’s so iconic that Stephen Colbert has used it in his parodies of the Charlie Brown specials! In fact, I don’t even remember any of the other intros, just that one. I see that CBS brought back the animation of #2 for #13, and I think Colbert’s use of it brought back so many happy memories for Gen Xers who had forgotten about it, that CBS decided to bring it back.
That fact that the 2nd logo is that popular, is understandable, because companies like marvel, tried to make their own styled logo inspired by this one.
Thank you for making this! This so speaks to my soul! So satisfying to watch that logo over and over! It reminds me of the butterflies I had in my young tummy, excited for the show that was about to come on!
In the 80's cartoons at night was beyond compare. This logo is linked my love of Garfield, the first cartoon I saw of him was Garfield in paradise. Of course all the holiday specials too.
7:53 Wow! That's quite an treat to see that the 1973-1992 "special presentation" ident got an throwback in 2022! Some people say that this ident should have brought back the music from the 1973 ident, but my guess is that the reason why they didn't bring back the music is because for an ident in 2021, the music is dated since it comes from the 1970s.
But move the "A" atop of CBS then it can be detailed...but this new version is a flashback for sure 👍 but still, I like the fact that this is a modern version of a classic logo...i'll give it a 99.9/100...its a beautiful flashback 😍
They freaking need to bring this back for their annual broadcasts of Rudolph and Frosty. The current showings feel incomplete without it. (And also when Apple TV releases its death grip on Peanuts and those specials are allowed to come home to CBS!)
Note: Some are claiming the 2nd logo was used until 1991, while a certain user who uploaded a CBS Special Presentation commercial from 1990 said that he believes it was used until January 1992. The CLG Wiki also says it was used until 1992, so I'm just gonna assume it was used until then. If I'm wrong, it's best not to criticize me about it. Thanks for reading, team.
CBS used a "This program was recorded on an earlier date for presentation at this time" bit in late November 1977 for the "Bing Crosby's Merrie Olde Christmas" special, the one where a 30-year-old David Bowie sang with Bing (who sort of passed on the crooner torch, didn't he?). Bing had died in October, a little more than a month before the broadcast. They'd taped it that September in London, so it would make sense to have that message run before the show.
I have a vcr tape of the episode of Dallas when Bobby returned after being dead for a season or two. It was preceded by this special presentation introduction. I guess it was the first episode of that new season.
Jonty, this "special presentation" ident history of CBS is... _awesome!_ Just like other television networks like NBC and ABC from America, BBC from the UK and Globo from Brazil, CBS has a lot of good and memorable logos and idents! These "special presentation" idents from CBS are really memorable, especially the 1973 ident (being my best favourite "special presentation" ident from CBS and one of my favourites along with the 3rd ident), whose longevity is amazing, being lasted for 19 years from 1973 until 1992!!
Thank you once again! CBS does have a lot of memorable logos, and I'd love to do an ident history on CBS one day! I agree that the 1973 ident is a huge classic! Many people in their 40s, 50s, and older remember that bumper. It is surprising how it lasted all the way until possibly January 1992!
I recorded all CBS christmas primetime specials for December 2022 and not once did CBS use the "2021-present" , which resembles the 73-92 one, the best and my fav. The one they used is the same music 2021-present shows in this video, but no retro animation, just a bunch of christmas words scattered in the background
the 1978 version opened up a real disaster moment: the airing of "The Star Wars Holiday Special". The 2001 with Charlie Brown was a sad occasion: it marked the death of Charles Schulz at age 77. 😢😢😢😢
The second one is the best. It sound like you’re about to view something shocking like an expose on crooked people. I would like to see a few people faces on this.
I can't remember what jazz song or artist this music is from. I read it once but I can't remember! (Wait I found it! composed by Morton Stevens for the soundtrack of the original Hawaii Five-O series.!!!)
Pretty sure CBS used the animation at 1:02 for the last Bing Crosby Christmas Special in 1977, the one where he sang with David Bowie. It had been taped in September in London and shown in the US at the end of November-but Bing died in Spain in October, about 5 weeks after the taping. Otherwise, I’m sure people watching would have been a bit freaked out seeing “der Bingle” on their screens only a month after he’d died!

Logo 2 because it is nostalgic

Everything can't be *SPECIAL* without Logo 2...its hands down...the best intro in EVEN THE *1970's*

The 1973-1992 Special Presentation music was taken from an excerpt from Hawaii Five-O's "Call to Danger" by Mort Stevens.

I just love it when the word "SPECIAL" twirls on the screen, then it says "A CBS SPECIAL PRESENTATION" at the end. How do they do it?
The 2nd is the G.O.A.T.
I wish someone would figure out how the graphics were done.
I suspect it was done on a Scanimate machine.

I like how they used similar clicking noises to the 1973 ident. I'm glad it got a modernized version in 2021.

Logo #2- That CBS Special Presentation logo was the best ever. I wish that they had kept it.
They remastered it for 2021

And the wizard of oz special presentations
It did return but it’s mostly used for awards shows like the Grammys
Those drums in the early ones - gotta be done by the same dudes who did Hawaii-50.

How come they don't make logos like that anymore? That "Special" in pink is so cool!
This is so iconic, this and at the end when they told you to visit you local library to learn more about something
So epic! I'll never understand why they sometimes had a voiceover covering up that incredible percussion.
People definitely knew they were in for a treat when they heard that awesome music!
Your animation of my logo is great. With your permission I think I want to use it for a possible project.
@@noisepuppet Sure. You can use it if you like.
I remember the Family presentation logo. It was used for years when they showed A Christmas Carol 1969.

The 2nd and 13th logos are my favorites because it captures the likeliness for the nostalgia.
Yeah, the 2nd logo will always be a classic! The 13th logo is a great modernization of the 2nd logo!

The 2021 logo is a reboot to the 2nd one.
It's a flashback (I said it in a good way)
Love how, on the third logo, the CBS Eyemark starts coming down, hesitates for a second, and then takes its place in the title as the title completes.
