Queue every Pixar movie ever. From Finding Nemo to Cars to WALL-E there's a basic understanding that can be grasped by people of all ages but there are constantly references that only certain people will get. It's one of the things that keeps me coming back bc each time I watch it I find new jokes I never understood 5+ years ago. The writers that work at Pixar know how to craft a script that the whole family can enjoy for many years. (Lion King 1 1/2 was also this way but not a lot of people know it even exists. :c )
+Victor Viridian Drives me crazy when they make Hades Satan too. Why? Why can't he just take care of the dead? Why must he be the embodiment of evil? Ugh.
+Crystal Williams-Brown It's doubly annoying because his brothers treating him like shit is a negative quality IN THE ORIGINAL MYTHS, but NOBODY understands that. In a world that's been increasingly fascinated with flawed heroes with each decade, you'd think someone would enjoy a sympathetic hades
Anti-HyperLink yes, someone actually did say that about the Underworld and Hades(that the Underworld appears differently to people of different faiths) in the book! Good catch. I'm fairly sure it was Annabeth..
It's really weird considering that by today's values, Hades probably the nicest of the Greek gods. I mean, yes, he did kidnap Persephone and force her to marry him, but compared to what his brothers, sister, nephews, and nieces have done, that's a pretty light crime. Considering there's no myth to my knowledge mentioning him having any offspring, it's likely that he didn't force himself onto her at any point either. It's like he just wedded her because his brothers kept bullying him for being single.
BackwardsDovah UK They couldn’t even get the key points, I bet they didn’t even read the chapter names, just skimmed the summary on the back of the book.
Nice reference to dionisoss’ ( I cant spell it sorry) constant mis-pronunciation if Percy’s name, and btw if anyone calls this girl an idiot for “misspelling” Percy’s name, shut up.
You forgot to include that Percy didn't spend time at the Hermes cabin in the movie like he did in the book. I believe that this was a very important part of the story because it let Percy and Luke build a relationship as friends a bit stronger then, "Hey, I know you."
Agreed, not to mention this would have shown his irritation towards the gods because they haven't claimed a lot of children which means they are all stuck in the Hermes cabin, some have been stuck there for years.
Yes. Plus how could you leave out the brothers!!!! I love their mischief. I also think it sucks that they left out how nice Luke is. He genuinely cared about these kids and Annabeth. WHICH HE DIDN'T SPEND ANY TIME WITH. Ugh
Yea! They also left out grover and chiron having to play dumb about what happened in the museum in the beginning, the fact that percy and annabeth are 12 NOT 17, and most importantly YOU DROOL WHEN YOU SLEEP LIKE COME ONNNNNN
But hey I guess it doesn't matter since they also decided to cut out the Oracle so the prophecy doesn't even exist... Ugh I don't get why they did that 😂
Starfeather136 Not to mention that it added dimensions to Percy’s understanding of his and others’ experiences as Demigods. When Percy got there, the only cabins there were dedicated to the big twelve gods in the Greek Pantheon, with all the minor gods kind of shoved into the Hermes cabin because he’s the patron god of lost travelers. While he appreciated the camaraderie that being in such close vicinity to a bunch of misfits could provide, (something he thoroughly missed when he got stuck in the lonely and cold Poseidon cabin) he knew how demeaning it was to be considered as lesser and shoved in a corner. So after the events of the fifth book, Percy helped renovate the camp to make sure it accommodates as many Greek gods as possible.

How about when Medusa disguised herself as a granny, luring them into her garden, when in the film, she just appeared and was evil. There was no build up.
Luke's entire character motivation is his absent dad who saw his future and tried as little as possible to interfere with his fate. In the process making everything worse for his mom who attempted to become the vessel of the Oracle but failed. In short Luke has daddy issues.
You know I’m still confused by that part and I kind of interpreted it as ares was wrecked, about to smite Percy, but then got stopped by Zeus or cronos or something. Maybe the fates?
... What really pisses me off is this series of movies could have been the next Harry Potter... But NOPE, Hollywood wanted a quick buck, so they butchered the whole thing... TWICE. BRILLIANT! JUST WHAT I WANTED!
Exactly, the books are really popular and the whole idea is great for a movie. Honestly I can see all ages coming to this movie if the movie was actually made according to the books. Not to mention with the amount of books/follow-up series the fans would get many movies and the filmmakers could get a lot of money (which seems to be their goal) So if they had just followed the books this could have indeed been the next harry potter...
Why don't we talk about how butchered up my favorite character ever, Annabeth Chase. They movies took my tough, smart, prideful, badass, but at the same time vulnerable and deep character into a lame, flirty, unemotional, dumb BRUNETTE. They can't even get her hair right. One thing is that annabeth constanly is underestimated because of her blond hair. And with that capture the flag scene, if Annabeth and Percy were to have sparred, Percy would have had his ass whooped. Touching water does not equal instant sword fighting powers. The movies also portray Annabeth as a flirty, lovesick person. Annabeth just plain out hated him at the beginning, so she definitely "had strong feelings for you" but they couldn't be more negative. Not including the zoo truck scene was honestly one of many, many the movies greatest mistakes. That's where we see Annabeth open up about her past and then they finally chose to become friends. Also, we don't see her wisdom, wits, and cleverness. Annabeth proves even in the first book that she is the smartest girl percy has ever met. Her knowledge saves Grover and percy time and time again. We also didn't see her pride. Annabeth is a person who has goals. The reason that they go to medusa's lair is for food, and they stay because of annabeth pride since medusa flatters her enough to get a "photo" when she then shows her true colors. I'm sorry for this unorganized rant comment, but I hate the repsrentation of one to the strongest characters in the entire two book series. I would like to say something else though. THE MUSICAL IS FLIPPING GREAT!!! All the character's stories and personalities are accurately shown. If you want to find out who annabeth actually is, listen to my grand plan.
I’m late but oh my goodness the musical is great! The three minute song ‘the last day of summer’ (in the musical) portrayed Luke’s character better than a two hour movie
and persephone liked hades she didnt hate him and hades was not abusive. i am screaming this but not using caps as i figure this is already more work thann the producers did while adapting the movie
I was 13 when I read Percy Jackson. 13 year old me was a huge mythology fan, yet never did I see any fictional media getting it right. 13 year old me was really upset. The most common mistake was when movies and shows and stuff always kept on calling Heracles Hercules, it’s a small thing but in a Greek setting they kept on calling Heracles for his roman name. Percy Jackson was the first piece of media that did not do this that I ever came across. And it’s such a small thing, but for me that was a tiny proof off how much Rick Riordan cared about actually educating in Greek mythology while at the same time doing a modern and interesting incarnation off the famous characters. One off the first lines in the movies is using the name Hercules. It’s such a small thing, but it just proves they don’t care.
Samini the B I was the same age and I’m now 20 and reread them for the first time in years, at the time I first read them I didn’t think Percy and co were young and now I’m like AHH YOU’RE BABIES GO SIT DOWN
There's a slight chance that I missed it, but I believe you forgot to mention the biggest thing that was left out for me. The entire sequence between Percy vaporizing his teacher and them going to camp half-blood was cut completely in the movie. Percy thinking it was all in his head, the conflict with his stepfather, the really great character building between him and his mother, the dramatic moment of Grover bursting in during a rainstorm. Plus, the significance of the color blue was ignored as well as probably the darkest moment in the book where it was strongly implied that percy's mother was getting beaten by his stepfather, the big motivation for Percy letting his mother kill his stepfather.
and the HUGE character thing with Sally not wanting her problems to be solved for her, which is why she and Poseidon didn't stay together even though he adored her. Sally didn't want Percy to take care of Gabe because Gabe was her problem and she did everything in her power to keep him away from Gabe as much as possible. Percy gave her the MEANS to kill Gabe, but she ultimately made the choice herself.
@@kittiekat10105 Plus the reason she stayed with Gabe in the first place. It wasn't just bad luck or choices, she deliberately placed herself in that position because the monsters wouldn't be able to smell baby demigod Percy if he was surrounded by Gabe's bastard human-ness. That's supposedly the only reason Percy survived outside the camps for so long.
What i loved so much about Riordan's books were how he cleverly avoided exposition, for example by: - Raising questions like (I'm not sure if this is actually a thing in the books, just needed an example) "Wouldn't Luke/Kronos only be able to do/know that if they were aware of the prophecy?" But never explicitly saying they don't know the prophecy, leaving the assumption that they did as your only logical conclusion - When a character had a plan, Rick would often write something like "Percy told them the plan" without actually telling us. This way the characters know, but it's still a secret for us and that always made me exited to keep reeding
The second point can also apply to "The Kane Chronicles". In "The Serpent's Shadow", a handful of characters KNOW about Plan B, but we are never really told what Plan B is. To this day, I still don't know what Plan B is...
@goat person that's a good question, in fact, I can sympathize with you on that subject. it would make a lot more sense considering the prophecy wasn't exactly specific on the real prophecy Percy is to fulfil
I love how Percy would often come across as clumsy and dumb, but in key moments, he came up with an awesome plan and often could understand people through great empathy.
I really love how it showed that no matter how good of a hero you are, you're not perfect. Annabeth was highly intelligent, very good at fighting, and extraordinarily good with battle tactics. But still, she has a weakness.
My biggest issue with Annabeth was not just her appearance but also her initial attitude. When they first showed her on screen I legitimately thought she was Clarisse, due to the fact that she looked nothing like her book description and was introduced while in the middle of a fight.
I posted this as a reply to another comment, but wanted to share how ridiculous the plot of the movie is: Book: A war between Zeus and Poseidon would cause the Trojan War to look like a water balloon fight. This is being set up by the King of the Titans, Kronos, who is so evil he ate his own children. He’s setting the gods against each other so they tear Olympus apart by themselves so Kronos can just take over after the gods. destroyed themselves. He can even manipulate gods and demigods into doing his bidding, despite being trapped in Tartarus. He is an incredibly dangerous villain who will doom us all if he ever regains a personal form. Movie: Luke has daddy issues, so he’s decided to personally cause the end of world. Because he didn’t get enough hugs as a child, he decided to kill off the entire human race. Oopsies! Maybe we should do something about that, but why don’t we just let the demigods deal with it. I’m sure it will be fine!
@@WolfRider2002 I know, but that wasn’t the only reason he resented the gods and joined Kronos’ side. He also blamed the gods for Thalia’s death, which is one of the main reasons he hated the gods. The movies don’t even mention Thalia until the second movie though, thought she wasn’t relevant enough so they cut her out. Just goes to show they really didn’t do their research.
I saw the movie first and loved it. Then I read the book and now I despise the movies. People who don't like the Harry Potter movies don't know how good they had it compared to this.
The pjo movies saved my life I gotten to the books and I now have over 30 of his written works on a special gold painted bookshelf I've just now gotten to see the musical it's not as bad they did have a blond Annabeth but this time Luke's the black one LOL
same! I loved the movie the lightning thief, and watched it all the time since it was on Netflix. but once I read the books and and watched it again, I vowed to never speak of that movie...
You heavily undersold how stupid leaving out the St. Louis Arch scene is. Not only does he fight the Chimera there, but falling into the Mississippi River is where he learns a lot of his powers, including talking to under sea life, staying dry despite being surrounded by water, and the fact he has a limitless amount of oxygen under the water. What does the film give us instead of this important scene? An opening joke where he is shown holding his breath under water. It may be bias, since I am from St. Louis, but it's such a stupid change to make.
munromister777 it’s also when he stars truly accepting the reality that is his parentage. There’s that whole scene where he is called “faithless” by Enchidna before he prays for his fathers protection and then jumps. It’s the turn around where he starts actually accepting his parentage and what comes along with that. And taking that out of the movie was terrible
Okay small complaint that I actually was a rule in the book that Poseidon Zeus and Hades The Big Three couldn't have kids especially because of World War II so it was a taboo that Percy existed in the first place that's why his dad wasn't allowed to communicate with him growing up same went for Nico di Angelo in Thila Grace, Jason Grace was even given to Juno is an apology for breaking the taboo and for cheating for the billionth time

One notable change that did irritate me was the dilemma involving only three pearls are four people (Percy, his mother, Annabeth and Grover). In the book, it was a very big deal because Percy ends up deciding to leave her mother in the Underworld, proving to be a hero who lets go of his personal desires in order to save the world. In the movie it's just glossed over with Grover staying just for that awkward sex innuendo joke.
Aj Q I always though Percy's decision to cheese it out of the underworld had more to do with the rocket launchers being fired at him than personal sacrifice but seriously, your absolutely right.
The Dom It's been a while since I last read the books, so my details could be a bit off. Anyway, since you did Watchmen, how about doing a lost in adaptation for V for Vendetta. Or you could probably do Psycho.
+The Dom I read the book recently. The rockets only started firing after Percy basically said "Fuck you" to Hades and smashed the pearls on the ground. Nothing happened at first and the skeletons began shooting. Then the bubbles encased them and raised them to the surface.
Not gonna lie, this is without question THE worst book-to-film adaptation I have ever seen. It's like the writers skimmed the Wikipedia summary of the book while drunk, then started writing the script a month later... again, while drunk.
I mean he was kinda comedic in the books, but the whole uncle ferdinand thing was a lot darker in the books as well. Finding out the fate of one of his relatives who was on the same quest as him (searching for Pan) hit him pretty hard.
I'll allow myself to point out a few more *tiny* and really, really annoying changes that would not have been hard to keep as the original: •Chirons horse part is white •Mrs. Dodds wore a leather jacket •they were on a fIEld tRIp •Clarisse LaRue is so important! •the toilet scene??? •Grover was passed out as Percy fought the Minotaur •they originally just had to smack the pearls on the ground, and were enveloped in a bUBBle that flew them to the mortal world •ANNABETH WAS BLOND AND SASSY, NOT A B"TCH •Riptide actually has a cap, not a click thing •where did the Fates go? •they're all TWelVE •Ares, the Zoo transporter, the Poodle And finally: •The Gods Are Not Nice People™
@@jdaly6261 What they meant was that the Percy Jackson movies were so bad and different from the books that they shouldn't even be considered Percy Jackson.
Book Annabeth: incredibly intelligent for her age, brave, had a traumatizing past, isn't really a good fighter but wins with strategy, calls Percy *Seaweed-brain* and is BLOND Movie Annabeth: cocky but Percy can immediately beat her without any training, helpless, useless, can drive??? Wtf and is brunette
Yeah, why didn’t they just dye her hair? Movies do that all the time, in the book she had honey blond curls and storm grey eyes, in the movie she had brown straight hair and... wait what color were her eyes. I didn’t look, I was too busy pukeing into the toilet at how disgusting the movie was.
If you take a closer look at the film and have read all the books, you notice that some of the stuff they put in this movie they actually took from later novels... and completely botched up. 1. Persephone actually does appear in the Underworld during summer in the books, but that doesn't happen until the final novel, The Last Olympian. And that was because Hades had brought her there(and her mother Demeter) to keep them out of the war with the Titans as he believed that it wasn't his fight. 2. Percy does sneak out of camp to go on a quest in the books, but this takes place in The Titan's Curse under a set of completely different circumstances. 3. Campers actually can play video games in camp, as shown in The Lost Hero when Beckendorf's bed is described as having a new gaming system. 4. There are demigod/greek creatures relationships. The musical added a bit where Beckendorf also had a relationship with a nymph, and the books introduced Lavinia Asimov, a Roman demigod in a relationship with a dryad, in the Trials of Apollo series. But yeah, I think a series like this would work way better as a television series, maybe even as an animated tv series. Update: Gods, pleaaaase let the Disney+ series be good...
Why is it that no one ever mentions the whole "half-bloods can't use technology and stuff because the monsters will find them" in all these reviews? Luke should not be playing video games!
It's not all technology that attracts monsters just the technology involving communication and the internet since in The Blood of Olympus you find out that Chiron had an old video game system.
Rick Riordan wrote the way a five-star chef cooks. He figured out what he wanted to do and how to do it, selected the exact right elements with which to do it and figured out how they should go together, then after preparation gave it all the time it needed to come together in just the right way to provide something exquisite. The movies are like somebody took a box of cheap steaks, threw 'em on a grill, and stood on the highway chucking meat into the open windows of passing cars.
issac flores Its spelled Minerva, Its not that hard a name! Come on, ive had this name for 20 years and never have i heard or seen anybody spell it so wrong!
I remember in middle school my teacher read the book to our class and everyone including the teacher loved it to bit. This was the same year the movie was coming out so when we heard about it we all got supper excited and our whole grade went on a field trip to see it in the theater when it came out. 60+ children had there little hearts broken that day.
I think Percy's Pen-Sword only worked on monsters. If he tried to used it on humans, it would just pass through them harmlessly. Luke's sword was the only one that worked on both humans and monsters.
Anaklusmos was a celestial bronze sword, while Luke’s sword is made of regular, earthly steel. In Book 4, Percy accidentally swings his sword through a mortal, but she’s completely unaffected.
@@felipevasconcelos6736 lukes sword was made of both celestial bronze and normal steel. And the person Percy accidentaly swung his sword at was a man, not a woman. Not that it matters, but hey.
@Felipe Vasconcelos @Rallis I feel like we've all read different books. As I remember it, in book 3, The Titans Curse, he swung his sword through Rachel Elizabeth Dare while trying to evade skeletons at Hoover Dam.
I don't even call the movies by the proper names. I call them the Peter Johnson movies, and I'm working on coming up with knock-off names for all the characters. So far there's Peter Johson, Annabel Run, Forest Lambert, and Persephone's name is spelled the same but pronounced very incorrectly.
The "LSD Flower Cakes" are in my opinion a nice addition. The Lotus Casino was meant to be a reference to the island of the Lotus-Eaters in the Oddessy, in which Odysseus and his crew happen across an island full of people who eat the fictional lotus fruit, which makes them want to stay there for their life and eat the fruit more. Odysseus ends up losing two of his crew members and personally goes to find them and rescue them, finding them having eaten the lotus fruit. So in other words it's actually a really cool reference to the myth that was perhaps missed out in the book
Why is it that every film about Greek mythology equates Hades to Satan? As far as I know (though I may be wrong) Hades was more of a gatekeeper to the underworld who prevented damned souls from escaping
I find it weird that among the few that didn't portray Hades as a villain was Hercules & Xena. While he didn't appear much, he was actually usually on the heroes' side. There were just certain rules about death he had to follow (e.g. a warrior who had a last minute redemption in a previous episode still ended up in Tartarus due to years of killing).
actualy the Underworld is divided in three: Elysium, which is the rewarding place for the exceedingly good souls, Asphodeus which was the equivalent of Limbo, and the fields of Punishment. Hades's judges such as Minos could also grant you reincarnation. Tartarus wasn't nearly an option for mortals, it was reserved for monsters, Mortals could only go to tartarus if they were dumb enough to fall into it or thrown into it by more...malevolent beings.
People don't understand that technically speaking, Hades isn't a villain. Comparing him to Zeus he's actually a pretty chill dude. He's just more of an overseer of the underworld.
Sara Yeah, it really helped cement the idea that Percy’s demigod heritage bleeding through as a behavioral disorder made him a natural fighter. He sliced a creature that punishes the souls of the damned in Tartarus completely in two without even hesitating.
Also, Mrs Dodds looked lame. This is supposed to be a fearsome fury, one of Hades' most dangerous enforcers. And yet she comes across like an angry bat that grabs people and shoos away when a centaur tells her to piss off.
Big change: Percy's teacher teaches English instead of math Small change: Grover's ethnicity, personality and basically entire character is completely different Uh... What?
Yeah, their age affected the book quite a bit. First off, being 12/13 they were mostly just getting out of the boys/girls are icky stage. Annabeth and Percy couldn't stand each other and were slowly getting along and becoming friends. FRIENDS. Now I didn't read the whole series yet, I'm near the end of the third book, but even then there are small hints that MAYBE they'll be more than friends (IDK maybe they do get together in the end, don't spoil it for me), but HERE they're already checking each other out, staring into each other's eyes and all that teen angst 'wanna jump in each others pants' crap. Their age also lead to them having to catch buses, hitch rides, hike, find maps etc cause they weren't old enough to drive. The movie glosses over that by having them drive everywhere. The Lotus casino was also full of arcades and kids games, again, to impress them so much they'd never want to leave. It didn't have the typical gambling and dancing showgirls cuz they weren't old enough to care. They also left out that the pen/sword was called RIPTIDE!!!! Friggin Riptide!!! How can you leave out the name of the main character's weapon???? That's like making a movie about Goku and having him fire off a beam of light and noone ever calling it the KameHame Ha throughout the whole thing. I also have doubts in how much faith the producers had into making this into a franchise. If you watch the movie by itself ignoring that it's based on the first of a SERIES of books.... you'd figure it was a one in done. It ends so perfectly and Percy can just ride off into the sunset with Annabeth. NO. In the book the heroes part ways, Luke announces his betrayal and escapes promising to return.... And Kronos is still out there. He's the series' 'final boss' that they only had a glimpse of. Percy is basically left knowing that someday, eventually he will have to face Kronos, and there's also a prophecy that hints that whenever Percy turns 18 he will either help save or destroy the world. So no it does NOT end all wrapped up in a little bow. It leaves the reader knowing that there is more to come and this is just the beginning. While the movie ends kinda like.... well, it didn't really NEED a sequel, it can just end here.
VideoGameMasters Great points! Their age bothered me so damn much. This movie is just a rotting exoskeleton of the books' story with none of the warmth and humour and ridiculously enticing adventure.
You could tell though that the second film had to have been the final one. Had to have been. They completely botched the final villain and pretty much every part of the prophecy that there is no way they could actually do anything with it, despite what stingers they have at the end. And even if they do think they can try, I don't want them to because I don't want them to go near my favourite characters of the di'anglios
I remember reading somewhere that the film makers promised Rick Riodian, the author of the Percy Jackson series', that he could be a part of the development of the movie if he sold the rights so it could be made blah blah blah legal stuff etc. But once he sold the rights they told him to sod off and they did it on their own. I don't know if it's true or not but if it is it's a helluva reason to condemn these movies altogether.
Amelia Hansen Man, that sucks so much. These books could have been amazing if they had been done the right way. I hear that there's a TV show in development but I've always thought Percy Jackson would be best portrayed as a cartoon show but that's just my own personal opinion.
Yeah, I searched on Google, but I also saw that Rick tweeted in July that they were, in fact, only rumours:( But still, I've seen posts with "new informations" from September, soo there's still hope:)
I had the great fortune to see the off-broadway musical version of The Lightning Thief. It was so much more faithful and made me so much happier than these movies!
ALSO IF YOU'RE IN THE US THEY'RE STARTING A NATIONAL TOUR IN CHICAGO IN JANUARY AND THEY'RE RELEASING MORE TOUR DATES SOON (plus the Twitter page is the best thing ever)
Not to mention his sword it was unique in the sense that it can kill both mortals and immortal something no other Olympian weapon including riptide is capable of
You know the thing that pisses me off the most about this movie is the stuff about Hades but not just the Satan stuff but the way he's characterized and his relationship with Persephone. In the book Hades is shown to the be arguably the most levelheaded and calm of the Big Three as he actually stuck to the arrangement of not having any more children and got royally pissed off at Zeus when said guy tried to straight up murder his children. He was a busy and gloomy kind of guy but you could clearly tell he took his job seriously and cared about his children. More importantly and I can't stress this enough Persephone LIKED BEING MARRIED TO HADES! Seriously in the book Persephone's love for Hades was 100% genuine, yes she didn't like it when she was kidnapped originally but after Hades failed to bribe her they spent time talking and fell in love naturally. Heck she actually looked forward to her time with Hades because it got her away from her overbearing mother Demeter. Heck she even didn't have a problem with him occasionally seeking comfort from other women, because she knew he was lonely when she had to leave. Sure she wasn't fond of the children her might father, but she was still extremely reasonable about it. Here she's a whinny premadonna who sleeps with freaking Grove. F THIS MOVIE!
The "Son of Poseidon" reveal of the book was not only built up beautifully, but it also played a huge part in the book's theme on Identity; In Percy's character arc.
According to legend Most centaurs are depicted in the stories as one dimensional party loving drunken brutes or at least the ones born from Centaurus and a cloud that was made to look like the goddess Hera Chiron was not one of them and he was actually descended cronos
I think the LSD-lotus cakes actually came from the actual Oddysey. The crew of Odysseus were kept prisoner by the locals of the Island of the Lotus-eaters with, you guessed it, sweet magical lotus flowers that made you numb and addicted from a single bite. Drugs, definitely. But the movie actually used a mythological detail. Not much else, though.
I was looking for a comment pointing this out hah. I find it so ironic that they ended up changing so much of the book that they managed to come full circle and make one of the few somewhat inaccurate aspects of the book more accurate to the Ancient Greek source material.
Though not a major flaw i feel like this was an unneeded change that missed the point of the world. The reason the LSD cakes are not in the book is because though the Lotus casino is the same people it like most other greek establishments and beings has modernised itself so it replaced the LSD being the lure to the wonder of the casino. The film having the cakes missed the point of the casino wonder rendering it fairly unnecessary to the story as surely any site would do in the film if the lore was the drugs. Just feels like the film makers thinking ah we can do a better reference to mythology than the writer can and completely missing the writers vision and reference.

@@nyhilistic6337 It's actually pretty good if you can believe it. Much closer to the source material, and the book isn't bad either. (I feel the need to clarify that the term "book" here is musical lingo for the music as opposed to the plot, spoken dialogue, and choreography.)
What about how all the unclaimed half-bloods at Camp Half-Blood went into Hermes' overflowing cabin, which only lead to the resentment all those kids felt, which was the whole reason those half-blood kids joined Luke's army in the first place and the reason behind Percy's demand of the gods that they not ignore their kids? Sorry, anger at the book. Awesome video, as usual
Most of the Heroes that side with Luke are the children of deities that do not have their own cabins at the Camp. Those who were unclaimed lacked the access to their gifts and wouldn't have been much use to Cronos.
Katelyn Taylor I'm pretty sure that The Dom was incorrect when he said there were no anti-intervention laws. The gods were allowed to VISIT their kids every so often, and could even give them presents every once and a while (Annabeth's Cap, Luke's Flying Shoes, and to some extent Percy's Riptide, though for that one it was indirectly and several years beforehand), but they weren't aloud to help their own kids with much else; no directly aiding you own offspring, which was more to prevent favouritism than to prevent gods from meddling with mortals. That, and the fact that they are gods, and thus BUSY with their duties as such, is the primary reason for all of that - other than the gods just being jerks, of course.
@@hunteryt7819 It's been revealed since December 2017 that Disney and Fox were merging. I believe it became official late July 2018, if I'm not mistaken
The Percy Jackson books were the first books I fell in love with. As of the moment I think it was definitely the most influential series on me. I’d never really ‘got’ books before them. Since I’ve gotten much more into reading.
I hate them for ruining what could have been an excellent, and definitely profitable movie franchise in line of Harry Potter series The Last Airbender falls into the same category, although I am very optimistic about the live action TV series that currently in production
I actually didn't mind the movies when I watched them, made me read the books. But once I had read the books, I realised just how shitty the movies were
I did read the books first, so I never cared for the movies (I still have yet to even watch Sea of Monsters), but I can easily see how someone who hadn't read the books could enjoy the movie as I think it does pretty well as a standalone film.
Same. When i look back i'm confused now because I watched the movie that is completely different from the book. Now when people complain about certain details in the movie I sometimes think, "Didn't that happen in the book?". This movie messed my memory of the book up. I wish i didn't watch it and went right to the book.
I was really angry when they reduced Hades to a wife abusing, power-hungry dick. In Greek mythology, he was actually seen as a fair god. The common people didn't really worship him in the same way as the other gods (fearful of death they were) but they did respect him. He was seen as rather noble. Even his stealing of Persephone shouldn't be looked at through the lens of the modern age. Women were given to marriage by their fathers. Zeus gave such permission to Hades but Demeter didn't agree. He took her anyway, he had her father's permission. Demeter freaked out and eventually got her way for half the year. Whether Persephone wanted to go or not is unclear, so painting him as an abuser can be stylistic but seems disingenuous to the mythology. In the Percy Jackson books, Hades was fair again; he returned Percy's mother when it became clear Percy was not the lightning thief. He then goes on to be rather nice and fair in the subsequent books. I like Hades, a lot. He's one of my favorite gods in many and various incarnations and artist interpretations. I even liked the Disney version despite it being inaccurate. (It was him who helped lock up the Titans with Zeus, he'd be the first they'd kill if they got out.) That said I hate this portrayal. I don't like to think Persephone is forever some damsel in distress, or worse abused. Hecate and her are tight, but Hecate is friends with her mother. Do you think a badass Goddess like Hecate (a literal titan and goddess of magic, a psychopomp who has the ability to travel to the underworld and back at will) would let Persephone stay there and be abused? Hercules the Legendary Journeys portray Persephone as rather autonomous, she chose to secretly eat the Pomegranate seeds because she wanted to stay (they were in love before she was "abducted".) She also wanted her mother happy so she agreed to the 50/50 split. This portrayal is lovely and shows her in a better light. It's also fair to note this mythos is viewed as a "love story." There are cult holidays celebrating Persephone's marriage. Persephone even turns a jealous "rival" for Hade's affection into a mint plant. I'm assuming that means she wants Hade's attention at least at the time of that occurring which is shortly after agreeing to stay. Demeter has always come across as the crazy one in the mythos to me, she didn't want her daughter to grow up and leave her, she was overly controlling, refused to let her marry, then when she was "abducted" went on strike and killed mortals because she wouldn't do her job and the land went barren and threatened to kill them all until she got her daughter back. ( I even found a side story where she built a safe haven to hide in while she cast a drought on the whole world. Premediated murder of thousands.) Hades also wasn't a monster. He let Persephone rule beside him as an equal, he created Elysium for her when she wished for a nicer place for the mortals to go in the Underworld. When a god gives you a literal heaven as a wedding gift that's kinda special.
The Dresden Files did a great job with making Hades not-a-dick as well. Even makes his marriage to Persephone a case of them eloping (with Zeus' permission and Hecate's help) because her mom's kinda nuts.
Small correction, Hades let the mom go free once it became clear Percy didn’t steal Hades’s helm of darkness and that Percy gave the helm back to the Furies once he won against Ares. This was nice cause it was the only time the Furies acknowledged Percy
@@erikbihari3625 Annabeth's hat was a gift from Athena and a lesser version of the Helm of Darkness Hades owns (which is his main item like Poseidon's Trident and Zeus's Master Bolt). been awhile since i last read the books but im pretty sure Ares had the Helm.
A small nitpick, but the lotus eating is actually a thing in Greek myth. TL;DR version: An island is infested with lotus flowers, and the people who live on said island eat them as their primary source of food, and the lotuses are basically super-powerful narcotics that get you super high. They're referenced in The Odyssey, and Herodotus talks about them. It's still not in the book, but it's not a totally random thing the film crew threw in, although it doesn't have a place in the story.
true, but in the book the idea is that the casino is the lotus, it draws you in and keeps you for as long as possible, even warping your perception of time. actually true of real casinos. in the movie they totally miss that fact and decide that they need drugs to stay at a casino.
actualy, Poseidon was a bit distant but eager to get closer to percy because there was a rule the big three (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades) were forbidden to have demigod children after WWII caused by each's son (guess which was which...) so for Poseidon, Percy was a walking dilemma and fear the other gods might just want to eliminate him. Also, really funny you mention the hydra in the Disney movie, because in Riordan's books, EVERYTHING from the real world IS CANON, including Disney. (heck, in his norse mythology series, Marvel's Thor is mentioned once or twice)
Yes it does. That's the hydra's thing. When one head is cut off, two grow back. To kill it, you need to cut the heads off and then quickly burn the stumps. (OR just blow it up like Clarisse did.)
+Estarile no see but that's true for EVERY HEAD save ONE, which doesn't grow into two new heads, instead its just IMMORTAL and thus needs to be dealt with differently. noone references this cause then otherwise the heroes can't kill it and it's just sorta still around, so theyjust reference the 'head slicing' thing and make it wholly killable. what I'm saying is that the hydra STARTS with mutliple heads and one of those heads cannot be cut off or killed
I know right. This was how that scene went when I saw the movie. Me-"Hey, there's Clarisse." Movie-"That's Annabeth." Me- T_T "No, it's not. That's clearly Clarisse, Daughter of Ares."
Really cause they go on about her being blonde with grey eyes ALOT. Same with the oracle girl having red hair. Rick was really into hair now that I think about it.
The problem was that they tried to turn a good kids book into a generic boring YA movie. It's for kids! Stories for children are often amazing and deep, don't be ashamed of that fact and respect the original material!
The thing I hate most is another Chistianization of Greek Myth. RR had Hades as an additional victim of Luke’s plans, not another baddie. That was what made the ending so interesting! Everyone was pointing fingers at him because he went after Percy, thinking he was the mastermind. Then they find out he had been robbed as well, thus turning his attacks from “oh what a bad guy” to “oh he legit just wants his stuff too. Well crap.” The movie just has him being the Devil with a new name when he was far from it. Hades is fair in all things and was only retaliating on a slight he had thought Percy caused him. On top of that, IT IS FREAKING SUMMER! WHY IS PERSEPHONE IN HAIDES?!
Also, Hades' loves his wife to bits and is extremely faithful to her and protective. In mythology, when Theseus and his buddy Pirithious (I think that's his name, check OSP's video) tried to kidnap Persephone so Pirithous could marry her, Hades had stone snakes bind them to their chairs and left them there. Heracles later rescued Theseus but left the other guy there since he was the one who wanted to kidnap the Queen of the Underworld and Hades wasn't letting him go. There is no evidence of him being abusive to anyone, least of all his beloved wife and Queen. He even allowed Orpheus to take his beloved Eurydice out of the underworld but Orpheus failed to follow his instructions.
What aggravates me is that the media doesn’t do justice on portraying Hades right. They make him look like he’s the bad guy but in the real story he’s a misunderstood guy.
I loved the books because the hero was a kid with weaknesses and disabilities that got bullied. Just like I was. It cleverly told this story in all the books making me care for and love all the characters, even the bad ones. Then the makers of this movie flipped through the book, took some names and a few events and then tore up the book and said let's make a movie. I feel like my innocent childhood got massacred. Thank you Mr. The Dom for reviewing this. To me you are on par with the Nostalgia Critic and Angry Video Game Nerd.
God, as much as I hate this movie, I hate the ending of the second movie even more. I can't believe that they reduced the King of the Titans, the Lord of Time and Father to all gods, and a ruthless tyrant to a spooky scary skellyman with fire and horns and a weakness so stupid that I'm surprised he was ever able to reform in the first place. What a fucking joke. "Cursed blade?" More like Deus Ex Machina! The cursed blade in the book was so cleverly done because you assumed it was Percy's Sword until the plot twist at the end that was, to put it in Percy's words, "Turned my whole world upside-down,"
+Dragosprite Chronos isn't Cronus, one is the original Lord of Time the other the father of Zeus, usurper of the tyrant Uranus and so on. In fact depending on which version of the mythology you read Cronus isn't actually that bad compared to the others. Using him as an outright bad guy is an odd choice, although I suspect the author kept it to the more well known pantheon rather than the full myth; I mean most people might know Uranus from Roman times but not Greek.
+Sissy Isn't Chronos still the titan of time, though? Still extremely powerful and imprisoned with most of the others, while Cronus ruled over the afterlife of the soldiers from the Age of Heroes?
Here's the thing. The creatures of the movie did think they could do better. They sent rick Riodan a script before they started filming. He of course decided to edit it and sent it back and they pretty much said that he didn't know what he was talking about. Now he actively bashes the movies as revenge
This is the worst kind of adaptation people. The kind that not only doesn't respect the source material but the kind that doesn't respect it's creator.

@@forrest6374 Which they changed in the books for no gods damned reason. I'm not blaming the filmmakers for this one thing because Heroes of Olympus wasn't written at the time, but that completely ruins the reveal that if you touch the cap to the hilt end of the sword it transforms back into a pen you can write with which was a whole plot point in House of Hades
I also feel like there were some great side characters that really gave the book more of a genuine feel. I understand that it would be difficult to mention ALL of them, but they even left out characters that are actually quite important in the lightning thief, or play important roles later on such as Clarisse. Not to mention leaving out major characters like Aries which you obviously mentioned
What’s ironic is that Chris Columbus, the director, had previously directed the first two Harry Potter movies, and they were probably the most faithful adaptations in the whole series!
Probably because they were the two shortest with several things that could easily be ignored for a films plot. As much as I liked the death day party scene in the book, I can't see why they would put it in the movie.
+Rhys Causon things that could be ignored if you hadn't read later books to know what became important. Considering the movies were always 2-3 entries behind the books, this makes sense, but it doesn't quite make a faithful adaptation
wibawa00 no. It’s really not. Luke May have had issues with Hermes, but his entire character wasn’t him whining and complaining about “daddy didn’t love me” especially in the books where Hermes was actually one of the few gods who tried his damndest to be part of Luke’s life, but being the messenger god made that difficult. Luke in the books was smart, charismatic, and while he did want to bring Olympus down, he was also clearly not enjoying doing it.
Well, you removed his backstory, with that the reason for his alliance with Kronos, his allegiance to Kronos altogether, and you are just left with a kid with daddy issues. The scar is superfluous at that point, since it was a symbolic reminder of his motives which are entirely absent from this steaming trainwreck.
I actually found the Underworld of Greek mythology worse than hell. Hell may be thought of as a place filled with pain and torture, but you generally only end up there for being a truly nasty human being. Here it seems when you lived a normal, yet uneventful life, you don't qualify for the great place and so have to spend eternity just being not truly miserable, but never really happy either. Reincarnate me at once, please! I'll do better next time.
It seemed to me that spirits in asphodel no longer have their human minds so it's basically like oblivion. According to christianity people can get sent to hell for not evil things **cough, suicide, cough, being gay, cough** While the gods disapproved of suicide, someone has to be really, really, REALLY evil or stupid to go to the fields of punishment. Listen, if somebody commits suicide it's because they want to not exist anymore. Depression is so bad that oblivion sounds better than any kind of existing. That is the worst feeling in the universe, and it does not deserve punishment. Also, for someone to go to elysium (I dunno how to spell it), they have to be really great. Basically that's Hades' way of raising the bar to improve humanity. I would love to have a rational debate about this if anyone is up for it.
@@afish1659 Lucia Mills I'd love to argue/debate with you but I think we pretty much feel the same way. I remember reading somewhere that those that before going to the fields of Asphodel one has to drink from the Lethe river, meaning they lose all of their memories which is honestly just horrible. Even if you remain conscious of everything happening around you you aren't even aware of why you were sent there because you don't remember your own life which is absolute torture. Also I completely agree with what you said about depression and suicide. I have never been actually full on suicidal (mostly depressed and casually suicidal) but I definitely agree that pain and anxiety day after day tire a person out until not existing sounds like an escape.
Your angry rant about Hades = Satan mirror's my own. It's something that's driven me INSANE whenever I see it crop up in a Greek Myth themed media. Also, love Lost in Adaptation and how you give the book and movie their fair shake and don't immediately say "The book was better" as so many tend to do.
To be fair, Loki does have a hand in causing Ragnarok in Norse Mythology and they do at least give him a very sympathetic reason for going against the Asgardians.
No he doesn't. Rick did Loki awfully. He just made Loki this generic, characterless villain, the evilly evil god of being evilly evil and doing evilly evil things in the most evilly evil way possible, because he's so evil guys, he's like super evil, evil is his only character trait, he's so fucking evil, like you guys don't even know how evil this guy is he's so evil, like he's super duper evil!
8:10 the lotus flower were a nod to the story of King Odysseus's travels in The Odyssey. Odysseus and his men wer stranded on an island where they encounter the lotus-eaters. The lotuses had the effect of dampening a person's concept and sense of time. That means that a month could have actually been years without the victim ever knowing. Personally I loved the idea of incorporating the flowers in the casino scene.
While it would have worked, I like the idea that the old lotsuses were just apart of some kind of humidifier or some part put into food. The main reason it's a problem is because it wasn't part of the book :P at least that's how I see it
yeah but also time seems to move faster in magical places as well. it becomes a key point in the fourth book when longer periods of time pass compared to how long it felt when the group was navigating the labyrinth.
@@TomskyB I read the Kane series all the way through about a year ago and I came to the conclusion that it would make a fantastic visual series if they decided to animate it rather then mess around with live action
@@CynicBlaze Yeah. The Kane Chronicles I think is my favourite of Rick Riordan's works. It felt like the best exploration of his creative potential because he didn't really have a lot of concrete Egyptian myth to go on.
When I read the book (more than 10 years ago), I remember imagining Hades being played by Alan Rickman. He would be a much better Hades than the hedonist from the movie!
OKAY so i just realized a thing from rewatching this video (amazing video, btw, it sums up everything i loathe about this movie, even if it was what got me into the books 7 years ago). so the point you make about the movie saying that the gods are physically not allowed to go see/talk to their half blood children, no matter how much they want to, is *bullshit* in context to the rest of the series. It not only messes with the theme of absent parents and how kids may be affected by those absences, but it completely ruins the point of what Luke is fighting for! Now, i know that Luke is an antagonist. He is doing bad things, he hurts his old childhood friends and manipulates many halfbloods (namely Ethan Nakamura, who you apparently see in the second movie for no good reason) into taking his side. However, like any good villain, he believes he is right, and has a good reason to be like he is. He was one of the many heroes that are used by their godly parents to do menial tasks. Hermes gets him to do a thing, and he almost gets killed for it. After a lifetime where the only actual interaction he had with his father was a dangerous one, he decided that gods need more accountability in their actions with the kids. *that's* what Luke is fighting for, and the idea of it is ruined if Hermes can just say "oh, Luke, i meant well, but there was this rule that says that I can't interact with you." It's also what makes the ending of the series, when they manage to give the minor gods cabins as well as forcing them to claim their kids ASAP rather than never is so much more satisfying. Luke was correct, and the books recognize that. the movies, and that tiny detail, change that entire dynamic, making the struggle between Luke and the gods to be more black and white than it really is.
Good point but I think you are ignoring a large part of why Hermes treats Luke the way he does. He knew his eventually fate and that coupled with what happened to his mother destroyed what ever relationship there could have been between the two. The menial task was supposed to a great honor as he would be following in the footsteps of Heracles, perhaps the most famous of Greek heroes . Luke anger was because he never had a childhood and he felt that his father abandoned him. Side point, hurt I think you meant killed. A lot of half-bloods die before Luke is finally stopped.
As a member of the Percy Jackson fandom, as a person who has read every book and loved each one, let me say I f*cking hate the movies. And so does the author of the books

Yes, thank you! Her being pretty and blonde so that everyone that doesn't know her thinks she is a cliche dumb blond girl was an important point of her whole character. Also Clarisse was probably just one of ares daughters in the movie because she didn't seem to be important (or pretty) enough. They are also not the only individuals that are missing like Silena (still crying when thinking about book 5).
My biggest pet peeve with this movie is in the first act. When Professor Pierce Brosnan takes the kids to the museum, he talks about the Greek hero HERCULES. His Greek name was HERACLES! Hell, later we find out Brosnan is Chiron, the immortal centaur who KNEW Heracles personally! There is NO REASON to get his name wrong!
I think this my be my favourite Lost in Adaptation yet. I absolutely love the Percy Jackson books (which ironically I became aware of because of this movie) and while I don't hate the Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters on the other hand... oh boy am I looking forward to that video.
TDF9055 I was kind of the other way, I really hated The Lightning Thief film because it was just trying to be Harry Potter and it ruined Percy Jackssons chance of every becoming a successful franchise by ignoring all the things were good. Sea of Monsters wasn't a good film, but I feel like its worst elements were caused by The Lightning Thief's mistakes. It had to try and be a sequel to a film which didn't set up _any_ of the elements that were supposed to be plot points in the sequel. More than that, I really suspect with the way Lightning Thief failed, the writers weren't sure if Sea of Monsters would get a sequel or not, so they wrote it with two endings, one that ended the series completely with Kronos dead, and another if the studio decided to greenlight a sequel. I think that's why the ending of Sea of Monsters is so messed up
Thomas L Considering that Lightning Thief was directed by Chris Columbus, who did the first two Harry Potter films, I'm not surprised that he tried to do something similar with good ol' PJ. I just hope they don't make a sequel. What are they going to do next? Are they going to make Blackjack a giant, silent eagle instead of a talking pegasus? Speaking of which, where the bloody hell was Blackjack in Sea of Monsters?
TDF9055 Knowing that is what made me hate that he did it even more. It felt so lazy and out of touch to just take what he did with Harry Potter (which frankly wasn't a great adaptation to begin with) and then apply it to Percy Jacksson. It was things like him using the exact same scene (and effects) to reveal the flying sandals as when they introduce the snitch
Thomas L I'm surprised there wasn't a moment where Percy nearly accidentally swallows the shoes. Although that would have been hilarious, and a little disturbing.
Something that pissed me off so much was that THEY COULDN'T EVEN GET RIPTIDE RIGHT. In the book, it was a cap pen that turned into a sword when you took the cap off (basically "unsheathing" it). It was NOT transformed by clicking it, which besides being a stupid, unnecessary change, makes no logical sense. How does it turn back into a pen if there's no cap? Ugh, I hate this movie so much.
Likely cut for clarity and time issues. Clicking a pen is an easily recognisable image, and we don't even need to see it, just hear the clicking sound, to understand what is going on.
Because then they'd have to explain where the cap went to non-book reading audiences (and judging by the amount of people in this comment section who got into the books because of the movies, that was a fair bit) and that would just be pointless exposition for something that honestly doesn't even matter to the plot. Also, click pens are much more common and the clicking probably looked more cinematic, so they also just adapted it to the audience and format. You know, like the whole point of making a movie adaptation.

Exactly, the books are really popular and the whole idea is great for a movie. Honestly I can see all ages coming to this movie if the movie was actually made according to the books. Not to mention with the amount of books/follow-up series the fans would get many movies and the filmmakers could get a lot of money (which seems to be their goal)
So if they had just followed the books this could have indeed been the next harry potter...

@@summanus4437 And not even a single "seaweed brain" ! That's just wrong.
It could be interesting as like a TV series instead since I can’t trust Hollywood not to ruin it
Why don't we talk about how butchered up my favorite character ever, Annabeth Chase.

EXACTLY
and the HUGE character thing with Sally not wanting her problems to be solved for her, which is why she and Poseidon didn't stay together even though he adored her.
@@ButterflyScarlet YES. ALSO THAT. Sally was a SAINT and deserved all the happiness she got in later books.
Hang on a minute, why was the colour BLUE important
The movie was utter nonsense. Rick Riordan's clever story was ripped to shreds.
What i loved so much about Riordan's books were how he cleverly avoided exposition, for example by:
- Raising questions like (I'm not sure if this is actually a thing in the books, just needed an example) "Wouldn't Luke/Kronos only be able to do/know that if they were aware of the prophecy?" But never explicitly saying they don't know the prophecy, leaving the assumption that they did as your only logical conclusion
- When a character had a plan, Rick would often write something like "Percy told them the plan" without actually telling us. This way the characters know, but it's still a secret for us and that always made me exited to keep reeding
Random Question,
cause why not:
Want me to recommend you some good Books,

The second point can also apply to "The Kane Chronicles".
In "The Serpent's Shadow", a handful of characters KNOW about Plan B, but we are never really told what Plan B is.
To this day, I still don't know what Plan B is...
@goat person that's a good question, in fact, I can sympathize with you on that subject. it would make a lot more sense considering the prophecy wasn't exactly specific on the real prophecy Percy is to fulfil
I love how Percy would often come across as clumsy and dumb, but in key moments, he came up with an awesome plan and often could understand people through great empathy.

EITHER SHE'S BLONDE OR SHE'S NOT.
SHE CAN'T BE BOTH.

I posted this as a reply to another comment, but wanted to share how ridiculous the plot of the movie is:
Book: A war between Zeus and Poseidon would cause the Trojan War to look like a water balloon fight.
I mean to be fair, Luke still had Daddy issues in the books, but Kronos took advantage of that and used Luke to bring him back
@@WolfRider2002 I know, but that wasn’t the only reason he resented the gods and joined Kronos’ side. He also blamed the gods for Thalia’s death, which is one of the main reasons he hated the gods.

Carl Rood but the problem with that is mortals don't go to taturus they go to the fields of punishment
actualy the Underworld is divided in three: Elysium, which is the rewarding place for the exceedingly good souls, Asphodeus which was the equivalent of Limbo, and the fields of Punishment.
Hades also has moral than the other gods who will sleep with anything and anyone while Hades is faithful to Persephone.
Also, why did the get rid of Percy killing Mrs. Dodds in the first fight scene? That scene was perfect for introducing how much of a badass he was!
Sara Yeah, it really helped cement the idea that Percy’s demigod heritage bleeding through as a behavioral disorder made him a natural fighter.
He sliced a creature that punishes the souls of the damned in Tartarus completely in two without even hesitating.
Random Question,

Uh...
VideoGameMasters *16
VideoGameMasters Actually the prophecy states that Percy will face Kronos at age 16. But other than that, a wise observation. :3
Whoops. Sorry. I didn't notice the correction
Since when has there been a Percy Jackson movie?? I’ve only heard of the Peter Johnson’s, a cheap knock off

Honestly Hades having affairs is very out of character from the way he was in the mythology.
When the film just plain out said who was Percy's father in the halfblood camp I lost my shit! The reveal was the best part of the book!
👏🏾👏🏾Right. And it was important because Gods never claim their kids. Plus the timing was seen as suspicious.
The "Son of Poseidon" reveal of the book was not only built up beautifully, but it also played a huge part in the book's theme on Identity; In Percy's character arc.

@@HumbleCrow27 Percy and i believe Nico both displayed their abilities before they were claimed. Although that might be because of their parentage.

Not to mention there are even versions of the myths where Persephone doesn’t even get kidnapped. She just goes there and stays.

Does that mean all the actors are real also, Percy might have a few compliments for Logan Lerman
one thing noone references is the fact one head of the hydra DOESN'T grow two more heads...because its immortal outright

+Sissy Oh really? Then never mind the movie is a masterpiece. Clearly my argument is flawed.
Dragosprite Only a Sith deals in extremes.
+Sissy Isn't Chronos still the titan of time, though? Still extremely powerful and imprisoned with most of the others, while Cronus ruled over the afterlife of the soldiers from the Age of Heroes?

Rick did the same to Loki, ironically.
Daughter-Of -Loki he probably did that because the MCU is already doing a Loki similar to that and he didn't want to steal.
What makes me sad is that the movies had so much potential.
I feel it would have had more potential as an animated tv series than a live-action movie.
Also they could've milked it for all it's worth since Uncle Rick apparently has no life and pulls series after series out of his ass
Alan Rickman proved by playing Snape he'd be a perfect Hades.
Hades is like the Severus Snape of PJO
@@lythrum2081 Exactly, he was the red herring in the first book like Snape.
I thought I was the only one!
@Unraveler I agree, plus the actor playing Hades made Hades a pouty fucking hipster!
The helhounds in the palace are separate from Cerberus. They simply omitted the guard dog of Hades' realm
Hell hounds also are much bigger
OKAY
so i just realized a thing from rewatching this video (amazing video, btw, it sums up everything i loathe about this movie, even if it was what got me into the books 7 years ago). so the point you make about the movie saying that the gods are physically not allowed to go see/talk to their half blood children, no matter how much they want to, is *bullshit* in context to the rest of the series.
*that's* what Luke is fighting for, and the idea of it is ruined if Hermes can just say "oh, Luke, i meant well, but there was this rule that says that I can't interact with you."
It's also what makes the ending of the series, when they manage to give the minor gods cabins as well as forcing them to claim their kids ASAP rather than never is so much more satisfying.
As a member of the Percy Jackson fandom, as a person who has read every book and loved each one, let me say
I f*cking hate the movies.
And so does the author of the books
Bethan w Riordan hasn't seen the movies because he thinks that they could influence his perception of the characters
@@tijsdc4907 No, but he did read the screenplay and sent emails and stuff to the writer about how *freaking awful* it was.
Hades was just a nice guy and he just wanted to do his job while his brothers boned all the women and Cerberus roughly translates to spot. #justiceforhades
And Charon demanded pay raise #JusticeforHades
Hades is the most misunderstood god in Greek mythology.
But he is a big jerk to Nico in book 5
@@antonindvorak6479. Did he deserve it? For Example Shadow in Sonic Prime has a legitemate reason to be mad at and fight him. Or good squidward torture"skill crane"!
@@erikbihari3625 I don't think so, Nico himself didn't really do anything bad...
!¡ ⚠️Spoiler Warning ⚠️!¡
Nico went on this 'I try to resurrect my sister' spree, maybe Hades was angry about that or that Bianca was dead and he took it out on Nico. But I don't see how Nico warranted the mean behaviour from Hades in the beginning of the 5th book.
His behaviour towards Percy was questionable but understandable, but not towards Nico...
At least they got along after the second Titanwar. I don't know if their dynamic changes in HoO, I only read till the last Olympian. I'm currently reading the Kane Chronicles (I don't know the titles in English, but the series with the Egyptian Gods)
You forgot the most annoying change. ANNABETH'S BLONDE HAIR AND GREY EYES. The thing that showed her mom? That bothered me the whole way through, along with Luke's lack of charm and the pandering that went into this. Seriously, a casino?
YES I'M GLAD SOMEONE ELSE SAID IT honestly that's the number one thing i get so annoyed of lel
+Yllasville1110 EXACTLY. I felt like the littler things like that annoyed me more, like Grover being generally more annoying and subtle setting changes.
He mentions it in the sequel.
Also that anabeth is supposed to be a tusendre obsessed with architecture, have a crush on percy and always be mean to him and be a smartypants
SALLY JACKSON WAS SUPPOSED TO STAY IN THE UNDERWORLD, AND NOT GROVER!!!!
I think that's why the ending of Sea of Monsters is so messed up
Thomas L
Considering that Lightning Thief was directed by Chris Columbus, who did the first two Harry Potter films, I'm not surprised that he tried to do something similar with good ol' PJ.
I just hope they don't make a sequel. What are they going to do next? Are they going to make Blackjack a giant, silent eagle instead of a talking pegasus? Speaking of which, where the bloody hell was Blackjack in Sea of Monsters?
TDF9055
Knowing that is what made me hate that he did it even more. It felt so lazy and out of touch to just take what he did with Harry Potter (which frankly wasn't a great adaptation to begin with) and then apply it to Percy Jacksson.
It was things like him using the exact same scene (and effects) to reveal the flying sandals as when they introduce the snitch
Thomas L
I'm surprised there wasn't a moment where Percy nearly accidentally swallows the shoes. Although that would have been hilarious, and a little disturbing.
TDF9055 I refuse to believe that Chris Columbus was fully responsible for this schlock.
All you have to do is click it again to turn it back to a pen.
Adriana Ruelas that's the stupidest and most minor complaint I ever heard my nigga
Huh, I actually missed that in the book. Good to know it was a capped pen, not a click pen. Honestly, though, that's not a bad change.
LUKES SCAR
WHERE IS IT THANKS
Gone, just like his backstory, his motives, his depth and wverything else from the godsdamned books.
