Why I Left ALL My Affiliated Brands (and what to know before becoming one yourself)

  • These are my honest thoughts, opinions and experiences. I tried my best to cover all of the questions I received in my stories and to discuss things that can be uncomfortable to talk about in regards to affiliations, paid content and PR. This is just a broad look of how I feel and what I think and I would like to follow this up with a video about things in makeup and with brands that have made me pull away from it.
    Thank you so much to anyone who watches with an open mind and can be kind because I am not well spoken verbally. All dialogue and communication is welcome here and on all of my socials, however abusive comments will be deleted and those that might say those types of things, will be blocked.

    I agree with most of what you said in this video. One thing not mentioned that id like to bring up is i would like people in the community to stop shaming others for supporting brands that some deem problematic. That doesnt make anyone want to stop supporting. People have to do things on their own time and own terms

      This was an interesting comment, and one that really got me thinking. As I have stopped following all of the brand babies for certain brands. Not to shame them though, but so I can enjoy my feed again. It’s so frustrating opening my lovely page and seeing stuff I don’t want to see. And it’s not people who buy from the brands but rather those who are showing the launches. I don’t care who supports whom, but I also am not interested in that content. But everything does happen in its own time.
      ❤️❤️ I did appreciate your comment and it did get me thinking ❤️

      This is actually a great comment to share in my next video, if you are okay with it. I can blur your info out. I feel like if I personally won’t support a brand, there is no reason to treat someone else poorly who may not know or be interested in why when they are simply trying to get enjoyment from something. I personally can’t in good conscience support some brands but I don’t feel like cancelling them is the right thing either, I genuinely wish for their growth both in business and in how they conduct it and themselves and while I feel called sometimes to share information, pushing it rudely on someone isn’t the way to be heard, though I do COMPLETELY agree with comment from @dreaming_in_multichrome below this because some things immediately make me depressed to see in my feed and I have enough of that IRL lol so I think to each their own, if not supporting or seeing a brand makes you feel better, then it is the right choice for you or if a brand/product makes you happy, who is anyone else to take that away from you. People need to agree to disagree sometimes, it is kind of like when people who are religious/not religious push their beliefs on the other like it will change their mind.

And I am so so so happy to know that I’m not the only one that sees and feels that way about the creators selling products as if that is how we will all see them when we get them… I just would like to transparency on photos that are of products that were being used by brands and being used to create affiliated income, all other use, I don’t care, though I think disclosing is easier.

    Really appreciate your honestly. I don’t know a lot about the behind the scenes with these brands, but I do spend a lot of money with them, and I want that money to go to brands that deserve it and treat people properly. The whole PR machine has me really turned off already. It’s gotten ridiculous and us consumers are paying for every item that is sent, in the end. It isn’t free. It’s costing us. Even though we get no say in who gets PR and how much PR they receive. Really bummed to hear about that light and it being used for swatches. That’s ridiculous. I want to be able to trust people. I don’t get it. I don’t get it at all. Would love more videos along these lines.

For someone's private page that isn't tied to a pr product or an affiliation, that's one thing, but for products that are, disclose the lighting coloring, primer and edits 🖤

    I’m so glad to finally hear someone explain the SAS situation. All of a sudden I just saw that brand vague-posting about a lawsuit or something and everyone who’d recommended them to me stopped reviewing them without an explanation. So I stopped supporting because the brand owner was rubbing me the wrong way with her weird posts and tried to see if I could find anything on Reddit, but I don’t think I was typing in the correct search words 😂 The shadows are fine, it’s just so awkward having multiple palettes from a shady brand now though and I don’t feel as inspired to use them 😕

    The term ‘the same 5 creators’ without naming people is problematic because what you consider the same 5 people will not be the same 5 that someone else does. Look at each individual creator and see what level of detail they are disclosing about their photography and editing style. Then decide if they are worthy of your support or not.

    • @jaclyntriesit
      @jaclyntriesit  Рік тому +1

      I appreciate your point of view, I have done that and still feel the way I feel. I'm not saying these creators are bad creators or people, just that I personally feel their pictures are deceptive when being used for sale purposes by brands. For their own enjoyment and creativity is one thing, when being used on websites and storefronts without any disclaimers on it is a different story for me. You may be fine with it and that is your right. Thank you for your thoughts.

    • @jaclyntriesit
      @jaclyntriesit  Рік тому +1

      And when I'm saying same five or ten, it is because within a lot of the brands that I use, they are the same people. Listing someone to make them feel badly isn't my aim, it is to bring awareness to something that I feel is dishonest in regards to photos used for products that are being sold and there are no notations regarding the lighting colors, editing etc.

    The highlight of your video was Leo - I literally said aww and thought he was so cute! Now, back to what you said... so much to ponder and take away from this. I appreciate you addressing these things and can confirm that being a smaller content creator is definitely not easy, and you rarely, if ever, get paid. It takes a lot, and like you said, if you go viral, then people start paying attention to you. Most of the time, the brand expects you to work for free in exchange for exposure... and then they may not even share your content which genuinely sucks when you've spent so much time and effort doing your work. It really has bugged me when that has happened in the past, posting so much content and just being ignored... I've had some brands deliberately not share my UA-cam videos even though they're sharing larger content creators for launches. It is unbelievably disheartening because it makes you feel like you're somehow worth less than people with larger followings.
    As for swatches, you've definitely got a point and I concur which is why I also use only white and yellow lighting or daylight if it's being done at that time (with no primer) because it doesn't make sense to show it in a way that it doesn't work... and that will breed disappointment in customers. This is also why I like to test out palettes by doing multiple looks... how else are we supposed to know how they work unless you try them multiple times? It really saddens me that brands would share a video that has barely been tested out over one that's got more detail. But that's just how the industry is. Numbers = more exposure, just something I've had to accept and get used to.
    Lastly, Jaclyn, I love your swatches. They're absolutely beautiful (always) 😍

      He really is the best part LOL my favorite part for sure.
      I genuinely feel for small creators especially those that are affiliated and don’t receive pr for launches because without provided marketing material how can they safely share and earn. And the perpetual cycle of purchasing to review to share and then hope that others will use your code is not a way to get ahead, sadly.
      And with the swatches, I only have an issue when things aren’t being disclosed on photos of products being sold by a brand or promoted or affiliated, essentially sold for someone’s benefit.

But no one who still had affiliates has been willing to say this. I would live to hear your in depth thoughts on PR. In my experience, the smaller creators always put in so much more work with those products. At least brands like Lunar Beauty just send the PR out to everyone. I’ve started paying attention to things more lately when I watch certain creators and there’s certain codes that get brought up constantly and it makes me wonder if that’s the brands expectations because with other brands they’re affiliated with they aren’t pushing as hard.
