  • Review of the Generation & Conduction of Action Potentials. This Lecture reviews the opening & closing of Ion Channels, the Relationship between Stimulus Intensity & Response, the Relationship between the Electrical Refractory Period & Frequency of Action Potentials, and the Factors affecting Conduction Velocity (Diameter of Fiber & Myelination). Reference is made to concentration gradients, electrical gradients, ligand-gated Na Channels, voltage-gated K Channels, voltage-gated Na Channels, electrical polarity, depolarization, repolarization, hyperpolarization, Na/K-ATP Pumps, Subthreshold Stimulus, Local Response, Threshold Potential, Suprathreshold Stimulus, myelinating cells (oligodendroglia & Schwann cells), Nodes of Ranvier, Saltatory Conduction, Multiple Sclerosis and fibrosis.

You are the only person who can explain with this much passion. Great job! learned a lot, especially learned how to teach this chapter: thank you!!!!!!

I like the way you give detailed explanations of what’s really going on with the electrical changes and the diffusion difference, I wish you could teach like this with all the other electrolytes

I can not thank you enough. I totally get it now. You dont follow my class exactly but close enough I can get main concepts. You will be the reason I pass

Nice lecture professor Fink! Sir,Kind of confused with the effects of Hyperkalemia you explained. I Had the understanding that moderate hyperkalemia causes decrease in HR and Contractility( by Increasing potassium conductance in pacemaker cells and myocardial cells) and with increasing hyperkalemia heart stops in Diastole. Also potassium is used as an anti-arryhthmics(Prolongs Action potential duration, slows conduction).I would be so grateful if you explained.Thank you sir!!

In fact, in chronic hyperkalemia inactivation gates of sodium channels do not open as readily as before, action potentials cannot be generated, and paralysis occurs.

Damn! theses biology major students sit and listen to their lectures like stories. It's not the same in Physics classes. Often we don't understand what is happening.
