She broke the rules to make meaningful useful objects, that's how you make design something transcendental and not just a "product" or just another "building", thanks to her one can say: "I'm a designer".
Stfu you just salty your career AINT gone nowhere. Before she died, she was worth 275M$. A lot of people try to imitate Zaha because of her creative process and elegant design.
The Beijing Daxing International Airport was one the last buildings she was working on when she died, I will visit the airport when it opens to admire her work
How very very SAD! You can really HEAR the terrible, awful damage she's done to her lungs by years of extremely heavy smoking. (In the unlikely event there was another, secret, cause of her respiratory problems -- I apologise!) As a physician I was worried about her health from when she first became well known. I was sure her life would be cut short WAY too soon, but really really hoped I was wrong. What a tragedy she died so young, but what a truly wonderful, spectacular, inspirational legacy she has left!
I can see one of her works from my bedroom window-the Wangjing Soho. It’s very spectacular from afar, but it’s not a very workable or successful building. Her buildings seem to be more sculpture than architecture-like so many current architects.
@@marsco2442 Transforms the State means that its ambition and trajectory is changed by a landmark statement or building or public works. It is a flag in the ground.
I think that her work transitioned our times from the new mannerist , where one feels totally individual in relationship to the structure - such as a fetus in the womb , and at the same time , the union with nature allows for a sensation of the retro tribalism that we are moving into -- allowing people to feel their "Group-ness" be it activity, nationality , or philosophy . One of the commentators below suggested that she is soulless , the buildings have no soul, and I would agree , in that by remaining un enlivened containers , the whole insdividual self is felt - as soul. The sound of her structures is the OM , and someone else below , wrote that its like whale bones on a beach , when you wanted to envision dolphins playing . To me , that whale bones on the beach , is an incredible thought , which although spoken derogatory , explains exactly my sensation of the new tribalism that will emerge from the presence of the structures and drawings of this great artist .

I mean architects could always use someone to build a model out of the autocad file, to texture it and render it ?

Jesus Christ. I'm five minutes in and all I see is people (that remind me of the longwinded pretentious fine artists at Art Center) blabbing about how spectacular she is. How long do I need to wait for this video to finally show her works? Too long! I'm out.
Some of her buildings are not aesthetically compelling to me but, her approaches and ideas are very inspirational. She really expands the possibility of architecture in the 21st century.
So YOU are that "One person in the world" who finds her work "not aesthetically compelling!" You need to be stuffed and put in a museum for posterity -- "The Man Who had Zero Taste!" [Only JOKING!!! Of course you are entitled to your opinion -- no matter HOW dumb and wrong!] All the best!😅
She is unreplaceable - it was only a drawing I cant understand why these morons keep glamourizing her work. Frank Ghery was a equally brilliant Jewish Architect and he never received this much attention.
So sorry she died. But I have never been a fan of her work. Her work is simplistic to the point of being boring. While her projects are often large they do not posses a feeling of grandeur. An artist she was not.
Who invited you? Lol you're free to your own opinions, but know that your apology doesn't void the disrespect you left on this memoir. Sorry you'll die one day, but I'll never care for your work either. Too simple minded and impulsive with your opinions. A critic you are not. Think before you act.
whats impressive about being an Iraqi ?? Also there are many women successful architects Eva is one of them that guy needs to stop making these remarks he sounds mad
unfortunately nothing she has 'designed' will stand the test of time. The Port Authority Building she was responsible for can only be described as a true enemy of beauty,
@@AnotherWierdThing I think when it comes to architecture, I have a more simple philosophy than most people. I ask myself one question: Would I rather it not exist? Or, if something was demolished for it, would I rather the previous building? Port Authority just screams awesome to me. Would I notice that location, that plaza, and the building that's under it, without such a unique and weird structure towering over? For me, I believe ugly = boring (most of the time) A 70s box skyscraper is boring, and ugly to me. A simple modern glass box with no extra flair is inoffensive, but sorta boring, semi-ugly to me. Port Authority? Man it looks like a space ship! It looks like science fiction! It looks like a crystal gem. If a building looks like that to me, will never be ugly, no matter what form or shape or colour it takes on. Sorry for longwinded explanation! I think it just makes me sad when uniqueness and weirdness is sometimes mistaken for grave ugliness. I like stuff that makes you look up, makes you notice.
@@beanfotchott3303 Im sorry but I disagree. I think there are objective standards of beauty and the only quality of the port authority building is the fact that it so blatantly dominates and imposes itself above the classical building. This dominance in itself is not a criterion of beauty, but merely just a structural quality, if the building beneath it was to be stripped away, the port authority building would be unnoticeable amongst the sea of modern and irregularly shaped buildings. For the port authority building to register any sense of memorability, it requires the old building to be accompanied, essentially revealing itself as hollow and empty.

Zaha is a great architect not a designer

Thank you Architects' Jornal documentary Zaha very interesting compliment.
She was open to evolve into Parameteric design and so ended up surfing that wave.
She worked hard....
The London aquatic center : WOW, !!!!
AWESOME doesn't begin to describe her work!!!

Architecture is now about the form, not the function. It’s because of computational design.
you sound like a hater . what do u even mean by successful ? “workable” ? it’s a building not a lego set
Super Informatives Video, vielen Dank! ☺️
Wow speechless
The Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan is an absolute masterpiece. It transforms the state and its ambition.
What do you mean by "transforms the state"?
A lot of heritage was removed for making that piece of publicity. Regardless of the building itself, the open area in front of it is just too big.
@@marsco2442 Transforms the State means that its ambition and trajectory is changed by a landmark statement or building or public works. It is a flag in the ground.
A great pity that it memorialises a psychotic & murderous dictator ... but it IS an incredible beautiful building!
Rest in Peace ❤️

luckly he was students in england and in usa if she was students in Netherlands the crazy teachers would have cornerd her in the begining .
When you believe that your building will be a graceful dolphin jumping on the waves and the building is a rotten whale stranded on the beach.

Smart person and visionary but her designs are quite ugly in the usual contemporary way. Still, the boundaries of architecture she did push.
