Thank you not only for explaining this very elusive concept in a practical way, but also for showing real examples of your technique being applied in actual matches. Great stuff, you earned my sub!
stand mk is your jab, in the sense of what boxers use. it should be your measuring tool. if you can throw it out to make contact on them with the tip, it can be hit confirmed into V trigger to combo into super, or on block it sets up spacing to make almost every instant follow up counter poke whiff, and leave you in range to sweep it reactively. it also leaves you in a decent fireball range after, but don't get too predictable with that since you can be jumped on for a big punish. you also have a dash in or a forward hp to close the gap you created too
Not sure why you getting hated on. I'm a long time veteran but I've been struggling with my whiff punishing using vega. I'm gonna see if I can't lab up some situations where I can set up a whiff bait like this. Concept is pretty simple but it does take some training mode and research and landing to figure out what works. Nice studf
I like it. but you should add notations that explain how footsies and whiff punishment is a strategy that you have to be in the middle of before the opponents normal comes out. other wise youll be at the wrong spacing and get hit or be too far away or react too slowly because you weren't prepared or not know what button your gonna whiff punish with. you can make another video displaying when you made the decision to go for a whiff punish. then give examples with different spacing and opponent pokes and your whiff punisher
The only problem is that I can't see good players mindlessly whiffing buttons the way ppl online do. A good player will only press a button when they know it will hit you. So the next step would be learning how to walk in and out of certain ranges to bait them to press a button and punish from there.
Rick Toni with Ryu you can play The fireball game at The distance of their máx range poke and walkback to whiff punish their attempt yo hit your Extended arms. with a character with Faster walkspeed, play more agresive style so they feel the urge to stop you for getting in to their range with pokes
Had no idea what whiff punishing was, and now I realize that I've always played that way. Works in real life too. Best time to kick someone in taekwondo is right after their kick misses.
Diego Umejuarez with ryu I have found that you can whiff punish moves with stHk. / fHp. /crHP / stHp in vtrigger and Cancel into big combos. but sweep is The easiest and you get the knockdown. Also notice that you need to practice this on training mode first and get the timing for each of the pokes both sides, whiffing and the punishers.
Mr Oblige its not about picking Ryu, its about learning your fundamentals. Ryu and ken arent that good if youre looking for wins. theyre good to learn The basics. fireball game, antiair, hit confirm, etc.
ponchuffyxxx I can play online matches for three hours straight. And you know what I end up going against? Ken, ryu, and Akuma players. Now if you're telling me all these players are using them to learn the fundamentals then I need to smoke what you're smoking...
All Im trying to say is that those characters are good to learn the fundamentals, but most people online just do what they want, especially at lower ranks. If you analize ryu's options aren't that good, that's why he is lowtier and at highest ranks you dont see ryus man, because he kind of sucks, I use him because I have fun playing with him not for getting the W's.
i know quite a lot of whiff combos on ken akuma and sakura. but you have to know what hits and what doesnt(eg lp chinbuster 2nd mostly wont connect but since whiffs are usually counters lp mp(range depending lk l.tatsu) h.fireball/DP connects full brunt as will c.mp [depending on range]c.mp h.fireball) then there is the standing hp which you can run cancel from almost any distance into full B&B combo(or heatrush/shinryuken combos) on cc. or step in l.tatsu(or step in kick) without, thats already 2 whiff combos that dont start with a fierce or a sweep on one character only. also some whiffs leave enough frames for dash in combos . its your turn to make these things happen and yes sometimes its risky but ken players usually know how to play with fire ^^
This isn't whiff punishing. Doing a block string so you can do some sort of whiff punish shows just how random the mid range game really is. This game needs to die.
yeah the nuetral in this game is guessy and random, u need to be looking out for what the opponent likes to throw out and whiff punish those normals, u cant be looking out for many things at once in the nuetral.
This still isn't whiff punishing. You have to do a specific setup that puts the opponent at a specific range and then wait and see if they press the one button you're looking for. Calling that whiff punishing is autistic.
Oh hey you're that famous rage quitter. Thanks for the advice but I think i'm gonna pass. And I didn't say it wasn't a part of whiff punishing. Putting the opponent at a range is a part of whiff punishing. However, doing it through setups only is in no way whiff punishing. You basically took a fraction of whiff punishing and said that this is the entire concept.
I never said "this is the only way to whiff punish", and this video is 2 minutes long, to make that assumption isn't reasonable and makes me think you commented purely with an agenda in mind, evident from your rage quitter comment. so thank you for the view, please continue to view and comment on my channel.

I love how simple this is to visually explain, but it's such a critical component of any fighting game
Its mind blowing how simple this video is yet how game changing it is for me
Connection to opponent lost
@jémeute LMAAAAO
😂😂😂
so thats why pros keep moving front and back all the time
Its to stay in there desired range with that character. its called footsies
@@killnkill1415 that's not exactly what footsies is
LoL @ 1:50 Awesome work Tali and Keep it up bro!
Such a great vid. Thanks 👍
Wow I never thought of doing a string to set up a punish. Ill definitely practice this
very informative without all the unnecessary extras, i'll sub
*than.
Awesome video though. I'm glad you are going over these concepts lol. Remembering this just made me so better.
Bruh you don't understand how much this helps! thanks ! from one gamer to the next!
I actually use this quite a bit in matches. Glad I'm not the only one who does this lmao.
Dino Want a medal?
So, in short(or shorter I guess) standing Mk is my friend.
stand mk is your jab, in the sense of what boxers use. it should be your measuring tool. if you can throw it out to make contact on them with the tip, it can be hit confirmed into V trigger to combo into super, or on block it sets up spacing to make almost every instant follow up counter poke whiff, and leave you in range to sweep it reactively. it also leaves you in a decent fireball range after, but don't get too predictable with that since you can be jumped on for a big punish. you also have a dash in or a forward hp to close the gap you created too

Best sf5 tutorial ever
"Street Fighter V doesn't have footsi-... oh"

Great video! Keep up the nice work!
Nice explanation.
You thank you for this!!! I wish you’d make more videos
thank man even though its season 2 now this one will help
Dude......thank you so much for this!!!!!!!

I have an older video about footsies that is much longer and goes into much more in the explanation department. Have you seen that one?
Thank you so much for this vid!
Nice vid. Very enlightening

think about this like a stencil, it helps you to get down the concept at first till you can do it without it

I'D like to know how can I do this with Juri ?
So Ryu just has more range then everyone? The other guy missed and you still kicked them
he kicks their extended hurt box same as with dhalsim players getting hit half across the screen because they punched first
who is kaizen master
Classic bro. Appreciate it.
very good demo . thanks
Had no idea what whiff punishing was, and now I realize that I've always played that way. Works in real life too. Best time to kick someone in taekwondo is right after their kick misses.
This grossly oversimplifies the concept of whiff punishing.
Its a start
it's a basic concept, once you know what are the ranges you need to be you will doing it without setting up the spacing with normals
Godlike.
God bless you
...well fuck, thank you...
amazing! Thanks dude!
Good Work!!!
so footies only has to be hard knockdowns ?

lmaooo nice video. i died at the end
you used then when you should have used than
Nice .
I need to find me a brazilian qt.
Quattro 4 Laura
so basically to get good at this game.... Just pick ryu? 99.9% of online players I go against are ryu of Ken.... Smh
Mr Oblige its not about picking Ryu, its about learning your fundamentals. Ryu and ken arent that good if youre looking for wins. theyre good to learn The basics. fireball game, antiair, hit confirm, etc.

lol !!! Nice vid.
This isn't whiff punishing. This game doesn't have whiff punishing unless it's something like a sweep or a fierce.
ok

this is sort of guide for beginners
