    Some of Panavision glass is Nikon glass.

    We have a lot of RF glass and plan on sticking with it. Nikon will more than likely kill off the RF mount. Because we feel this will be the case, we are considering selling off our RED products for whatever Canon announces hopefully this fall with their cinema lineup. Fingers crossed it's all RF mount cinema cameras. The C70 was great but we moved to RED for their ability to rig the unit the way we needed to, plus client requests. Things change so quickly in this industry. It's hard to keep up.

      Or you can just keep your Red DSMC3 bodies because they will be relevant for another 10+ years minimum. I don’t understand why people are assuming this acquisition will suddenly mean their Komodo and raptors are suddenly unusable or obsolete.
      IMO just keep your Red Cameras man. Sure go buy Canon if you so feel obligated but you can’t just say your DSMC3 cameras are obsolete. Just because the industry changes doesn’t mean you have to suddenly change.

      Interesting insight. The good thing is all of these cameras should last a long time but yes, it's moving so fast!

      @@gnkstudios6138 There is no other camera on the market that loses value faster than a Red, except maybe Blackmagic

    RED develops their own sensors, despite what many on the internet will try to tell you.

      Hey Scott! Yeah, that was the early days when they sourced sensors, right? Interested in your take on this as a long time RED user.

    This must be a canon channel 😅. First off every Red camera with RF mounts will still work with RF glass for a long while . Secondly read the history when Sony bought minolta and what thst did to propel them forward when Nikon and Canon dominated cameras . Thirdly the joke about Nikon focusing backwards is the old Nikon glass. The Z mount lets you program the lense any way you wish plus has linear focus options . Thanks for the speculation and conjecture .

      Well, the last episode before this one was about a project shot on two RED Komodos and this was shot with a Sony camera so I wouldn't call it a Canon channel. I love Canon's gear and have been fortunate to produce a lot of educational content for them over the years but I use the right tool for the job.
      True about Z mount. It's great what is happening with these next gen lenses from Nikon and Canon (RF is also very customizable). My hope is that this is a win for Nikon, RED and most importantly users.

    The leaders in the industry is 1) ARRI and 2) Sony and 3) RED. I hope Nikon & RED make a new Cinema camera. RED had a reputation in the early years of being unreliable. It has stuck to this day. Nikon branded cinema camera would be a nice disruption to the industry.

    • @theC47
      @theC47  7 місяців тому

      RED definitely went through some growing pains but I think they make great cameras and I din't think reliability is an issue nowadays (there are always exceptions). I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of this "marriage".

    How i see it there is no RED anymore, it's Nikon and whatever they want to do with it

    • @theC47
      @theC47  7 місяців тому +1

      I hope that’s not the case. My hope is that RED operates as its own brand and Nikon and REd share intellectual property and ideas with each other. Sure, Nikon will own RED but they are, me thinks, better as brands that co-exist and are more than the sum of their parts.

      @@theC47 I don't think nothing bad from this acquisition will come up, Nikon know its own space in the industry and doesn't have time or money for bad moves

    Call me backward thinking, but has anyone considered the failed RED Hydrogen One? Stick with me here. When that phone was announced, Jim Jannard was quoted in many stories about the development of a RED-exclusive sensor for the phone. No, it never happened and the phone bombed, but what about that sensor?
    Yes, a stretch to even consider a Nikon/RED alliance would ever produce a "cinema" cell phone but hey, a week ago who would have believed that Nikon would own RED.
    Cell phones have all but killed the point and shoot market. Could the hybrid camera market be next? (Looking at iPhone advances)
    I dunno. But I did want to toss it out for consideration.
