- Our Tiny Caravan Tour | Bailey Discovery D4-2 2023
Join us as we take you on a full tour of our 2023 Bailey Discovery D4-2. We'll explore every nook and cranny, highlighting both the fantastic features and a few quirks we've discovered. Whether you're a seasoned caravaner or a curious newbie, this video will give you a comprehensive overview of what this compact caravan has to offer.
Bailey if you ever watch this, these are some extra improvements I wouold like to see in future editions that were not covered in the video:
1. If possible move the wheel to the underneath of the caravan to free up space for bedding.
2. Add a TV bracket to the wall above the fridge. This would free up the work top for kitchen appliances and meal prep instead of a place for the TV.
3. Include the bike rack as standard, along with carpets and kitchen accessories.

Awesome caravan Chris .. these 2 births are like a tardis big on the inner side than the out … well nice cheers Chris & Sammy ..
Thanks for the comment both of you. And because they are so small they are super warm too, we are loving our winter camping in this van! :)
Nice tour, lovely van, yes we appreciate a lot of the cost cutting measures like the lack of side windows at the front, the flat seats at the front etc.
Very well thought-out caravans.
Thanks for the comment you two, yes they are well thought out vans, I may do a few upgrades to ours in the future like moving the spare wheel to create more space, and a TV mount on the cupboard to open up more usable work surface. But overall I'm so pleased with our little Dinky :)
@@ChrisGetsOut I'm thinking of removing my spare wheel altogether & just use one of those cannisters which inflate the tyre & temporarily fix the puncture. Cars seem to come with them these days. Just that I could do with the extra payload - it was overweight again last time I got it weighed (by 20kg).
How come you're on holiday & your caravan is completely empty???!!!
@@CaravanningwiththeMrs ha ha, I was waiting for someone to notice that 😂 You couldn't see what was behind the camera!!
Very cool Caravan. Have you considered keeping the spare wheel in the car to gain some extra storage, although this would lighten your already low nose weight.
I have considered that and may actually test how it handles one day. I've also thought of putting the wheel underneath but there isn't an official option for that on this model. So it would have to be custom made. Having the long europeon style A frame (that can hold two bikes) makes it extremely stable when towing.
Love the video ever since I started watching you I wounded what it's like with the little minny Caravan. They have used the space really good agree with the no "bumps" on the seats so they sit flat drives me crazy having a bumpy bed. Like magic the more they make that caravan basic the better it becomes!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The mini Caravan really does maximise space well, and those flat seats make a huge difference for comfort. There's still a few things they could improve, adding and electric hob and moving the spare wheel under the caravan. But overall i'm impressed with it and thought I would get on with such a small caravan but I love it!
We went for a Phoenix+ 420 back in the summer of '22. It's better kitted out than a Discovery with a microwave (essential for heating her ladyship's cherrystone pillow) and a proper separate shower cubicle (can't abide wet rooms and their clingy shower curtains).
The 420 is almost 2ft longer inside, though roughly the same shipping length and overall space is 103 sq ft whilst the Disco is 90sq ft.
Both have beds that are 6ft 2ins long which we use as singles and the knee rolls don't really impact when you sleep that way. In any case knee rolls should be placed under pillows and at feet end of a double bed so they don't mess up where your body sleeps.
We have four gas burners on the hob, which is silly because you never use all four. We've also got a separate grill, which hasn't been used in the two years we've had the van.
We like curtains, not to use but because, in our opinion, without them the van feels and looks bare and basic.
We like the two small windows at the front as they provide a much wider panorama. In a Disco I feel somewhat blinkered but I agree their blinds can be messed by cushions and heads.
The 420 is well known for being ultra light on the nose, though the GT75 has seen the battery box moved from by the kitchen to in front of the axle by the central chest and that's improved things. What's the D4-2's noseweight like?
Talking of central chests we hardly ever use our large table as the pull out from the chest is perfectly adequate for meals for two and its presence along with the cutlery and stuff kept in the drawers must help noseweight.
Thank you for your comment @steamdrivenandy6880. I have to agree with the clingy curtains! There's always a compromise somewhere caravan design, the manufacturers never make the 'perfect' caravan with everything you want 😄.
If we take the back cushions off the seats they do make decent singles too. I don't think we have ever had more that two pots on the hob in 17 years either. I just wish one hob would be electric as standard in all vans. It would just give you that extra option for winter camping.
The nose weight on the D4-2 is just under 50kg, the weight distrubtion is great to. I can lift it up with ease when needing to adjust over the towball.
And with the european style long A frame is fantasically stable when driving, I was most impressed by this.
We love our 2023 D4/2 as well!
The bed is essentially Super King size and we use superking bedlinen.
The front part of the under seat lockers is accessible but it’s tricky to open the first few times without catching on the board at the front.
Thanks for your comment @IanPettifer. We use three single matress protectors. That is so we can protect the seats from wine spillages in the evenings. And they work! I spilt an almost full glass of red wine over the seat a couple of weeks ago. The matress protector absorbed it all, not a drop went anywhere else! Disaster averted!
Thank for the heads up on the locker space, I still would prefer access to that space from the outside :)
Fantastic detailed review of your Discovery. Your so right about the curtains Chris🐾 we don't use ours either 👍
Thanks for the comment, glad you both found it interesting :)
wate wasted space with the shower room, you could have a shelving unite swing in and out of their. shame what a lost of 60-100kg of storage space.
That might be an idea! :) The one thing I think I would like to see for extra storage is moving the spare wheel underneath the caravan. That way you have space for the bulky bedding. Where to put the sleeping bags and pillows is aways a challenge in this caravan!
