For me, Zeni Geva & Polvo.. but I'm just a huge fan of both those acts. Melvins are more prolific, longer lasting and more experimental (so arguably the best/better) - but in my subjective bias Polvo's chords/controlled dissonance really blew me away in the 90s, then I found Zeni Geva and they have been my no 1 band since. Most people would prefer Melvins over Zeni Geva, but I think Zeni Geva got a little heavier than the Melvins at some points. Horses for courses though :) I dream of a KK Null and King Buzzo collab :)
Bands ahead of their time take the hits and brunt of forging new paths for future bands. All of us 90s rock kids can thank bands like this for all of our favorite era of music. And lo and behold their stuff still rocks and holds up. Bless the Melvins.
Yeah they've had a million bassists over the years so they don't usually include them xD Joe Preston of the Thrones was one of my faves, also Mark Deutrom was a cool guy - only can say because saw them and interviewed them while he was still in the band. After that the only time I've seen them was the Fantomas/Melvins/Tomahawk tour, which was ace as well, but couldn't really distinguish the bassist at that time (as being unique and new part)
@@Ninja_Gaijin I've met Lukin, and Preston when I was being a drink idiot (not at the same time). And Dale gave me all his weed after a show of theirs I worked.
He wasn't even 10 years old when he started Redd Kross w/ his brother back in the early LA Punk scene of the late '70's. They shared practice space with Black Flag. He also plays with Keith Morris in Off! which sounds just like early BF. Goes by the name of Steven McDonald.
Dale, without question, the greatest drummer nobody ever remembers to bring up in the conversation......I take Dale and Gene H. from Death over anyone else in the business....
still today The Melvins are in my top 5 favorite. hope I get to ever see them live I haven't got the chance yet and now with everything it seems like that might possibly never happen😔
These guys are something else. I never heard of them until last night. I ran a cross a video named Queen. I was hooked. I am a metal head from the 80's. What a sound. They was listed as Grunge. They are not. This sound is head banging all the way!!!! Love it. Have all ready order their CDs. Can't wait to get them.
I must have been under a rock. I didn't like Grunge all that much so I didn't follow it. These guys should not have been called Grunge. That's Rock & Roll man!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go for these albums from the late '80s & early '90s by MELVINS, Bill: Gluey Porch Treatments, Ozma, Bullhead, & Eggnog. You'll be thankful that you did. Cheers!
Outstanding! After I left my comment, I noticed that you'd said you had made some purchases already. You are on top of it! lol! I saw them live about 20 or 21 times -- first time was 'Houdini' tour w/ Lorax on bass, last time was 'Hostile Ambient Takeover' w/ Rutmanis on bass. Never a disappointment. Over the course of the last few months, I've uploaded about 6 vids of rare, early Melvins to my channel. Check it when you have time! Have a good one, Bill!
This band is so fucking unbelievably important, the Stooges, R.E.M., Pixies, The Breeders, Black Flag, Ministry, the Melvins, the Ramones, Motorhead, The Germs, and sooooo many others need sooooo much more credit than they ever got.
@Michael South He means they were never as popular as Britney Spears, which for some reason is very, very important and bothers dorks like him deeply. It's like they need the validation or something.
Godammit I love these guys.. epic integrity and hilarious.Within the first few seconds Buzz mentions TWICE how much people wanted to kill them. Makes me feel better about no one giving a shit about my bands.
Great interview, thank you! But it would be better (on the technical side) if you put the background music lower on volume, or not use it completely. It interferes with the band talking, and I've seen some people find the "secondary", "background" role of the songs derogative to them as separate works. Melvins rock!!!
I’ve wanted to see that forever! But not at the prices it s sold for … been waiting years now .. how did u see it ? I want to see the long version with bonus stuff
Also would be nice if Buzz could realize KC death wasn’t suicide but Illuminati ritual killing like so many other Hollywood deaths … but he’s part of Illuminati also ; so he has to sell the official version lol
Melvins will be one of those bands that everyone calls genius after they're dead.
Best band of all time.
Personal third favourite of all time (they were no 1 until I found the other two..)

I’ve known their genius since 92
^this.
Agreed....Dale is one of the top three drummers in the world.....

They’re still playing. Silver chair aint.
Weren’t ahead of their time. Just still fucking rule.
Man, I've heard Ozma so many times I recognized the start of Vile immediately.
Years ago I used it as the audio startup for an irc program that I had.
Amazing record
Melvins.
Best music to dig a hole to
Hieronymus Bosch, NASA and The Rolling Stones. What a trilogy!
👌👽😈
That trilogy describes their music perfectly :D
The bassist really undersells himself. He was a show of his own when I went to see the Melvins. Really impressive and entertaining performer.
Brandon Gore Probably because the other two guys have been in this band since they started and he's been playing with them for 2 years or less.

Yeah I've seen him too, he was great.

These guys are one of the greatest bands ever in my opinion
Vancouver BC based. Found you guys while I lived in Olympia. Never hated you guys.
I've been listening to melvins since i first heard them a decade ago and i'll be listening to them forever because i'll be lifting weights until i die
Best band I’ve never seen. Live! The Melvins don’t even need to play music to be awesome.
Cool saying...Yeah I'd buy a ticket just to hang with Buzzo Dale Steve & Jeff no music neccessary 🤘
Pretty miraculous the Melvens are still around today. Thank Gosh!!!!!!! The hardest working band in show biz.
still today The Melvins are in my top 5 favorite. hope I get to ever see them live I haven't got the chance yet and now with everything it seems like that might possibly never happen😔

Where have you been for the last 30 years?

Way ahead of you man. I have already got them. Man they rock. Thanks bud. Have a good one.

One of my all time favorite bands❤️
saw them live for the first time two weeks ago... haven't stopped playing since...
God....I love Melvins!!!!
in 100% honesty this is the best band of all time.
Brilliant interview. Cheers.
great interview, thanks!

performance art. I ❤️ this
super cool.
Awesome editing and whatever that made it all nice and tight and punchy 😁
Just noticed the Kings Hyeronimous Bosch shirt.
It's a LONG Way to the top of you wanna ROCK N ROLL🤘
Buzz rocking a Garden of Earthly Delights shirt.
Great interview, thank you! But it would be better (on the technical side) if you put the background music lower on volume, or not use it completely. Melvins rock!!!
round table pizza that takes me back
Great vid \m/ cheers
Dale looked a little unrecognizable here
He's lost weight, hope he's ok.
yea he looks different every time i see him it seems like
He looks like a young skate punk in the cap.. I swear he looks younger as he gets older lol
This interview is better than colossus of destiny a melvins tale.
I’ve wanted to see that forever! But not at the prices it s sold for … been waiting years now .. how did u see it ? I want to see the long version with bonus stuff
Melvins came to Calgary?!?!
Is that a Bosch t-shirt?
Whats the first song that starts at 0:30
vile
In the live shots theres a giant Napalm Death banner & they don't care cuz their legacy was set before ND even started🤘
ND started pretty early also tho
Love the Melvins.
A little bizarre with the Kurt comment
As Krist would and has said, "thats just Buzz being Buzz"
He’s mentioned this in many interviews
Dale looks like he's 25 in the cap lol he looks so young with short hair
3:49 "didnt work out in other words?'
The melvins are proof that you CAN do anything you want if you work hard enough and dont give up.
9:33 Jon Bon Jovi once said the same thing. Maybe he's done too... :)
That Hair
I asked Buzzo back in 97 if he teased it or used any product and no, he just lets it go the way it wants to lol
I really don't understand why Buzz feels that Kurt's suicide is even partially to blame on the Melvins.
he's joking
he's not serious about that
He's just being a shit.
well nirvana probably wouldnt have blown up if melvins didnt introduce dave to the band
@@toniclife1971 true, buzz makes sick music but almost everything he says about kurt cobain/nirvana in general is just shrouded in pettiness
Also would be nice if Buzz could realize KC death wasn’t suicide but Illuminati ritual killing like so many other Hollywood deaths … but he’s part of Illuminati also ; so he has to sell the official version lol
they will die. we all will. but not like a dinosaur. not The Melvins never to me I've listened to this band since I was in high school
These guys REALLY dont give a fuck what anybody thinks. No really!
sideshow buzz
That’s some revisionist history
