Great video! Thank you so much.
So far it is not as loud as a lot of other generators I have heard and seems to be a good bang for your buck generator. It will help save us in dealing with the Texas BS power grid during cold winter days and nights, especially with rolling blackouts.
I love that blue on yellow too. It makes the generator paps right out of the box....
Great video Gavin. I've got an RV and bought this generator. I've yet to use it since I also upgraded my lead-acid batteries to LIFEPO4 and boon docking has been amazing with LIFEPO4. I can go at least 3 days and the battery still holds a strong charge making the generator unnecessary. I have used it in our recent California winter storms with power outages and it is amazing. Nice and quiet in the backyard while the fridge keeps the food from spoiling and keeping lights on in the house.
How did you exactly replace that regular battery with a lithium phosphate? What size was it?
@@TheKingsComingAlefTav The RV battery group size is 24. The LifePO4 battery is too big but I placed it on its side and used a separate charger for it. But I did use the camper 3 full days with lights on, heater, water pump, music running when needed and about 50% juice left when we came home. The group size for the 100ah lifepo4 batteries are 31.
Thanks Gavin, I bought this last week at Costco. It is a great unit. As soon as I get a 30A dog bone I am going to see if I can run an A/C. I also have a Champion 2500 Dual Fuel, so when I get my parallel kit I should have plenty of power for my 5th Wheel. Looking forward to your tests of this generator
I’ve got the same generator, it fired up my 15k ac no problem.
What is a dogbone?
@@SandstormGT it’s an adapter for various connections. Usually with a length of cord between the two connects. Or just a straight adapter with no extra cord… that’s usually not referred to as a dog bone. Generator slang I suppose
In this case a dogbone is an adapter from 50 amp to a 30 amp outlet for RV AC power
Your going to be the most popular guy at the camp area. 🤭
Bought this type model about 1.5 years ago. No CO shutdown but everything else the same. $859 is what it cost so I had to get it. So far, everything is working fine...
Then it is not the same model. I think you have the WH03042 instead.
$407 shipped on their refurb same model this weekend with code on their front page.
Thanks for this video
We just purchased the Firman
I’m not going to lie I’m a little anxious on how it will do with our rig this weekend
Never owned a generator so your video is super helpful
Thanks
You’re welcome 👍🏾
How’s it work for you ? I’m looking to buy one but comments say it’s so loud. . How loud can it be ? Any info is appreciated
@@stogie0608 We have used it several times
It is not too loud at all
@@playingoutsideafter50 thanks for the feedback, Costco has them on sale again for $600 and I think it’s a great deal. Predator generators of a similar kind are still going for $900. I think I will grab one. For $600 i think it’s a good deal.
I am seriously getting ready to buy the Firman. I have watched all your testing of other ones but Costco has that one on sale for $599. I just want to make sure it will run my A/C’s. Love you videos my friend.
Yessir thanks for watching.
Great price right now.
When are you going to hook it up to your rig and test it. Hurry please 😂👍🏼
@@billshaw7645 Ohh man..I’m gonna have to cut it in line I have like five to test.
Bought one last week, tested it on my Toy Hauler with a 13,500 BTU A/C unit. No over load and didn't really jump in RPM's
It runs my 15k btu ac and microwave on propane. No soft start though I think it would overload if the microwave was going and the AC compressor kicks in. I think that surge would be to much for it.
Great video...I just bought this last week. It's going to be delivered tomorrow. I also have the 9500 dual fuel.
Looking forward to it. Thanks and have a great day
It's amazing how some people complain about the noise level. I bought one from Costco recently for $599. Primarily, I use it for recharging my EcoFlow batteries. The noise level becomes a nonissue because charging the Ecoflow batteries require minimum power. One can recharge the batteries on eco-mode. So, the low cost of this unit combined with its main purpose (charging my EcoFlow batteries in a pinch) more than justifies the purchase. Another thing: With the dual-fuel compatibility, ONE full tank of gas, and ONE propane tank, one can recharge the EcoFlow batteries at least 12 times spanning nearly one week! So, for those who use these things to recharge batteries, there is little noise.
You have a valid point - my current Champion 3100 will run things pretty much on low revs in Eco mode - where-as my Honda 2000 might need to run at high RPM's to achieve the same thing. When that is the case, the Champion at low revs is quieter than the Honda at the higher engine speeds.
Everyone's situation is obviously different - even though we have solar on our little camping trailer, there are still times (rainy days, shaded camps spots for instance) that we will run a generator. Where we go, sometimes National Parks or forests, I don't want to be "that guy" with the noisy generator. Believe me, we have seen too many folks that drag along their noisy generator with them, this is why the noise levels of this, or any generator, are high on my list of what I want in a generator. This Firman seems to be a great generator in many ways, it checks off many of the things that I want, but if the noise levels are too high, it might wind up staying at home as an emergency backup generator instead of going with us camping. Wish it had a lithium battery for storage like some of the newer Wen's and Champions.
@@sequoia464 Indeed. It depends on the individual as to how one uses these remarkable machines. As for me, I see the logic in the batteries (i.e., EcoFlow). Fossil fuel generators, no matter how low the decibels, will never be as quiet. In addition, one has to leave the inverter outside, never inside. On the other hand, Ecoflow batteries can rest comfortably inside, like a piece of furniture. If I go camping, I bring my Firman and Ecoflow. During the day, if needed, I recharge my batteries. This process takes less than 2 hours. Thereafter, I'm done with the Firman, relying instead on the quiet, efficient use of the Ecoflow.
U know I'm doing something similar in my Rv rig. I have ecoflow delta pro with 1 spare battery for 7.2kwh. And looking for best gen for topping it up. Now I picked this up for 600 but it is loud, heavy (100lbs), and plus when I charge ecoflow with AC only can charge at 1800watts. I wondering to get champion 2500 dual fuel, it is light (37lbs), has 1700 running watts, and pretty quiet. Plus can be had for $599 shipped. Thoughts??
While I under stand the intended goal of silent power at times, it seems to negate the intended goal of clean power when you need a gas generator to charge them back up. Do you use solar as well?
I’m watching this review to see if this will be a good back for my EcoFlow system!! 😊 I have 2 Delta Pros, 4 Smart Extra Batteries and the Smart Home Panel. I don’t like the EcoFlow Smart Generator. I am hoping that this will fill my needs when I need a backup to my backup system.
I just picked up the Firman yesterday. Eager to see your load testing on it!
I recently made an impulse buy on this generator at Costco for $599, thought i had an amazing deal. First mistake was not looking at the reviews on it before purchasing. I bought it mainly for running our travel trailer at a race track that has no hookups. I was wanting a quiet generator for this purpose, after reading the reviews, I quickly learned that this generator wasn't going to be a a noise level i had intended it to be, luckily I had not opened the box and so for several reasons I decided to return it to Costco, main reasons was the noise level. I've noticed people on the reviews complaining about it. And it not having a fuel shut off, also the battery not being a lithium. And no fuel gage which surprised me. I have decided to stick with my original plan to purchase a WEN 3800. Thanks for making the video and reviews. It saved me from being unhappy with my purchase.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts
Kari 😁
I am in the same position - unfortunately the Wen is 20.1 inches tall, it will not fit in my truck bed with the tonneau cover closed, unless you remove the gas cap. It is about 1/2 to 3/4' too tall. The manufacturer could have done a bit more research - I'm driving a 1500 Ram with a Retrax bed cover - not an unusual combination.
The Wen is notably quieter - I'm more interested in the 4000 watt dual fuel, but the dimensions are the same (per Wen's website and a review I saw of a similar (clone) champion with the same dimensions - but I need something that will ride in the truck. Like you, I haven't opened the box yet and am considering returning it.
Gavin has an excellent review where he compares sound levels from the Firman to the Wen 4000 and an IPower 4000 watt unit, in case you havent seen it yet.
$407 shipped right now on the REFURB exact model on their website this weekend...July 4th weekend 2024
I bought this from Costco and was disappointed how loud it got under load. It seemed like it was built really well and included everything
I’ve always found that to be true with the Firman they get loud under load.
It’s by far the loudest inverter generator I’ve heard and owned. That CO alert won’t let you run it in the bed of your truck while you camp or have to stop somewhere.
I think I’m going to return it.
@@nathan3306 curious did u end up returning. Just picked one up at Costco for $599. However now I'm eyeing the dual fuel champion 2500. It's below 40 pounds which is much easier to throw in back truck bed versus this 100lb, and some places sell champion for $475. Need Generator to keep my delta pro (main powers source) topped up when boondocks in rv. Thoughts??
@@Tech4Ten I still have it for the time being. Haven’t decided what to replace it with just yet. I’d look at the generac 3300i. It’s quiet and will do everything you need unless you’re looking for dual fuel.
@@nathan3306 yeah looking for dual fuel, the champion 2500 dual fuel looks to be amazing portable unit to keep my ecoflow delta pro charged. But champion won't run my rv ac unit. This firman will though...
I just bought this Firman at Costco for $599! Smoking deal and it’s been awesome! Very impressed.
Aaron have you ran your AC on it?
@@billshaw7645 I ran my 15k btu Ac and it works great. However, this guy is stupid loud under load.
@@nathan3306 thank you for that info. I read a review on it that someone said the same thing. It wild only be used in an emergency since my refrigerator is a house unit and electric only. My brother in law just bought a Champion 4500 so I’m going to barrow it and see if I like it. Thank you for your info.
@@billshaw7645 if I was just using it for home back up, this is a solid unit! Now if you use it for camping, you will piss off other campers.
@@nathan3306 that’s what I’m afraid of. I think if we bought one we could dry camp and live out of a cooler but just in case I need some ac I don’t want to bother others. We are in AZ so you can use ac almost all year lol
Great video. I bought to temporarily power my fridge as they upgrade my electrical panels. We’ll see if it works.
Excellent video. Very informative. Thanks
Great demo 👍
I really want to see how loud this gen under load compare to the other popular gen in this class..
Would this generator run AC and outlets together in a 30 ft travel trailer? Just had the hurricane come through had no power for a week lesson learned get a good generator to stay in travel trailer.
Well, I decided to keep this Firman after all, a bit louder than I wanted but no worse than my Champion 3100.
As it is I can run everything, including the air from the lithiums through our inverter - the solar and 1000 watt Honda do a decent job of keeping us charged. This Firman will be great for other uses, especially with the propane at higher altitudes - no jets to swap out - maybe a hotter plug.
Unfortunately the Wen/Champion is just too tall to fit under my tonneau, I'm seeing this is not uncommon.
Edit; after doing the break in on this generator, and trying to convince myself the noise level was acceptable - ultimately I decided it wasn't going to work for my use, just too loud. Fortunately Costco took it back without an issue.
It’s an awesome generator and fully loaded with all the features you need plus it puts out the rated power.
Thank you Gavin. Very informative!

Once you learn to appreciate and use all the different form of energy fossil fuels, solar, wind and batteries then it all makes sense.
You got it👌🏾
@@GeneratorReviews Absolutely. As the world moves forward, alternative energy sources (i.e., wind, solar) become more practical. After all, fossil fuels represent a finite source of energy. Nevertheless, one can utilize these sources (i.e., unleaded gas, propane, natural gas) in inefficient ways to support alternative options (i.e., batteries). Rather than depend on an inverter as primary power, one should consider solar batteries. The inverter becomes another power source option, like solar or wind, recharging the batteries. It makes more sense. As a bonus, the problem of noise--by placing the inverter on eco mode while recharging the batteries, becomes a non-issue.
@@shawsr7 I think once battery capacity increases and weight is decreased more people will except Solar Generators but the price also have to be affordable.
@@GeneratorReviews, Of course, you are correct. Battery price and weight represent negative obstacles. However, companies like EcoFlow makes adjustment--at least for the weight--by adding wheels to their weightier products. Hopefully, as time moves forward, the prices should decrease. I have seen an indication of this already through limited purchases through Costco.
In your opinion, why does that Firman require the extra solenoid plug where all other brands do not?
I looked at getting 1 of these from Costco but that firman priority short LP hose was a no go.
I had to call that one out also, they could’ve gave it an extra foot or two In my opinion
Great demo.
In addition to its other great features, I have been looking for a generator in this size that fits in my Ram pickup truck bed with the soft cover closed. All the others in this power and higher are too tall. I have two of these and the 50 amp parallel connector and can power both my ACs in my travel trailer and still close my bed cover when on the road. It saved me from having to buy a fiberglass cap for the truck so they would be covered on the road. May have to switch to folding hard cover for the bed for my security.
Does the Generator charge the onboard battery when it’s in operation?
I only ask because I’ve noticed they include a battery charger. Or, is the battery charger just meant to keep the onboard battery voltage up when it’s being stored for long periods? Thank you.
Yes and yes you answered all your questions 😅
Thanks for watching
@@GeneratorReviews Thank you for confirming my questions.
Very nice explanation sr
Im wondering why firman upgraded the power of the old model to this 4000 with the 3 year warranty. I bought the smaller one and it broke down, then got an ebay refurb to replace it for only 499, and NOW the 4000 watt unit is 200 off at costco, so what's going on here? Anyway the refurb was delivered and the propane system doesnt work. So now what? I must have the propane fuel option.
They’re having it on special at Costco for $599 in Mar 8.
649 in the northeast. Still a great deal!

How about changing the oil?
What is that large blue plastic casing on the regulator for? I have a larger unit and it just has the metal regulator and a hose.
It’s just a plastic shield doesn’t really do anything more visual
I believe the 3 year warranty is for parts while labor is only one year. This compares to Champion which is three years parts and labor.
The manual said one year parts and labor 3 year parts and technical support.
Looking forward to how it stacks up noise wise to the others in your stable. I’m just having a hard time justifying this thing with it being so loud.
I bought a slightly used pair of Honda eu2000i models and attach together. They are super quiet and easy to transport individually. I couldn't be happier. $1500 for the pair and in 5 years if I want to upgrade, will still be worth that probably. If you can swing it and you want quiet, Honda can't be beat IMO.
Hey Gavin! Really loving the Channel. Looking for a 3-4k generator that i can bring in my truck to tailgate and also use at home in case of emergencies. Ive narrowed it down to this generator and the genmax 3200 or 3300.
I like that the firman offer a refurbished unit for $400. The genmax obviously being more but new.
What would your recommendation be?
I definitely think you should lean more towards the quieter inverter generator. This one’s a little louder for my liking.
Have you checked out the genmax 3500 and don’t forget you can buy those directly from me.
www.gavins-garage.com/
@GeneratorReviews thanks I'll check them out. So based on your testing, the genmax seems to be more quiet than the firman? Do you recommend an electronic start or are the pull starts pretty good on the genmax? I see genmax has about 4 generators all within the 3200 to 4000w range. Obviously the 3500 is dual fuel but then I see a 3200, 3300, and 2? 4000? Can you give me a quick rundown on the differences? You have so many videos I haven't been able to watch them yet
I’m between this and a regular generator. For my home and want a switch box. Any preference between a invert or or generator
If you have the option to get an inverter generator please do that the electricity so much cleaner it will not burn stuff in your house refrigerator computers cell phones sensitive equipment
Just bought the same generator at Costco in Portland and was $699- prices higher?
I think it was the same price point where I bought it
Is there a drain hose to change the oil or do you have to tilt it to the side to change the oil?

Why no remote start? That would bring it closer to competitive with Honeywell 4500. Price is similar enough.
Yep! I guess they tried to keep the price low but remote start would’ve been nice.
I think the remote may be more useful to shut it down. If that is the case and you use propane only, you can probably make a remote relay to cut off the regulator connector cable.

How long does it run for on a 20lb propane tank?
You should get around 18 to 19 hours
What is the clip on the LP regulator for?
Great comparison video
The clip is so you could hang the regulator on the front of the generator or the propane tank
It appears more for storing but not for while it is in use.
9:11 reminder for me lol.
what do you recommend between this and the wen?
They are both good ones the wen is quieter than the firman but it also cost more.
I guess it all depends on where you gonna use it.
I bought one of these a few days ago - it's still in the box though. Not sure if I'm going to keep it, some of the early comments (at slickdeals) state it is noisier than expected. I hoped that you would review it, this review seems to show some reasonable noise levels, looking forward to your comparison to the Wen, especially the sound levels.
As always, thanks for the reviews.
From just running them together they all seems around the same level DB. I’m not sure if that’s going to change with a load but we’ll find out after I test it. Most people use the microphone on the cameras that’s designed to pick up sounds and voices I don’t use the camera microphone.
It’s stupid loud for an inverter generator imo. Probably taking mine back too. It sucks because it’s the right size and has pretty much everything you need. The 599 deal was to go to be true but one I’m going to have to pass on.
@@nathan3306 At what percentage would you say your typical load is 25, 50, 75% I know that it’s going to be loud at 100%
@@GeneratorReviews I don’t have a way to gauge the output but flipping on the trailers 15k Ac it started to really wake up. It ran the microwave, ac, in my 30amp trailer. I’m sure that was at or near 100% and she was screaming. This was all on propane too.
I think it’s their muffler. Their sound deadening material inside is really good, it’s just the exhaust side. I think it runs a higher rpm than most other inverter generators as well. I saw that help with the surges but doesn’t on the noise. The amount of air this moves across the engine and inverter is very impressive too. I’m sure have such a large opening for the intake doesn’t help with noise but reliability should be better.
My pulsar 4000 inverter was quieter and my craftsman 3000i is stupid quiet compared to this unit. The pulsar didn’t handle the surges as good as the firman but once it caught up to the load, it was fine.
@@nathan3306 Yep, I haven't even unboxed mine yet, waiting on a few more reviews. The noise level is very important to me - we have three generators right now that work for us, but looking for another backup that we can run off of propane.
Appreciate the input - thanks.
I should probably wait for the new Honda 3200 - just gas from the scant info available yet, but it is going to be fuel injected, so probably will work at higher altitudes without doing anything to it (or so I'm hoping). I can and have changed jets in my generators, but if I don't have to it would be sweet - that is one of the advantages to running off of propane - or so I'm told.
Has anyone thought about changing out the muffler? Would probably void the warranty.
That would be an upgrade the muffler has on there it pops a lot which makes me believe there’s no restriction
What about just adding a DB killer tail pipe add on like on so many
motorcycles ?

Only when connected to the house power panel

Wow, you bought the generator from eBay. You are a very brave man.
@@GeneratorReviews I have bought several generators off ebay without problems. This one was refurbished and I did not read the fine print, saying that the tools and battery charger would not be included,. I do not need them anyway, since I already have them!
The important part was the idiots that sold it did not include in the instructions that that panel needed to be opened and a couple of hidden wires needed to be connected so that the generator would run.
I have never seen this done ever in the 2 dozens generators I have owned
I did it and it runs perfect. Problem is I had to deal with this in 105 degree heat and was tearing my hair out trying to get it to work. If the paperwork that came with the generator had a warning sign saying this must be done first! Instead they had the normal instruction that are sold with a new generator.
