Thank you all for watching today's vid! I said we're growing 15acres of barley this year. What i meant to say was we are buying 15 acres of seed but planting about 16.5 - 17acres with some of the leftover seed from last year aswell!
Never seen the soil sample taken before. Would you mind showing what the results sheet looks like when it comes?
Yeah that's fine I'll show the results when they come back👍
Great video.
Thank you👍
Good luck with your samples hope you don't have to many heavy metals in the soil it can really affect your yield. By the looks of it your going to need a plough that won't go to deep try a dowdeswell ours does a good job at 6". Lemken can't plough shallow at all!
Aye we don't tend to plough any deeper than 5'' - 6'' as that's when we start running the risk of ripping into shallow drains and nasty rocks etc...
Shed coming along nicely 😎
Aye its looking good👍
RGT planet is mainly used for brewing and not distilling (B in the malting use column) whereas Laureate is used for brewing and distilling (B & D).
Bit of advise about ploughs never buy a lemken
Great information vid 👍 hope it's a good year for growing 👍
Fingers crossed🤞
Excellent video m8 well explained 👍
Thank you👍
Even knowing you have a new camera keep the gopro for butting in the cab on the windows or for extra angles when doing machinery work
Aye I'm keeping the gopro for that kind of thing👍
I'm no expert at all just a small time farmer and this might be totally wrong, but I was told one time by a field rep to never touch the sample with your hands because the oil from your skin changes the sample. Like I said it might be totally false but maybe it might help your samples also. Wish I could travel over to your area someday and check it out, looks pretty cool over there.
Yes your ar right cloves should be worn to stop the acid from your hands contaminate the soil 👍
I never knew that, thanks for letting me know I suppose that makes sense👍
Don’t know much about the barley seed graphs n that but the boss grows a lot o brage and golden promise which are early day barleys since wur grund is rather weet at times and sum o the brage straw wis nearly 5ft tall last year and was somewhere aboot the 3.5-4 tonne a acre yield and its a 99 or 98 day maturity seed and is Swedish barley if I mind right
Aye as we sell our barley to a distillery we only have a limited number of varieties that we are allowed to grow👍
Angus Glover aye. Hav u ever grown bere? A contractor up here grows his fur a brewery and it seems to be a good yieldin crop to what they post on facebook
What does it cost per bag to be sampled and do they provide just a sheet or can you get it electronically to enter into gps
It costs about 15 - 20pounds per sample. We always get a sheet back with the results, as for the Gps I couldn't tell you as I've never tried it that way before
Don’t get a kv there always cracking and snapping when under stress trust me I wouldn’t buy one lemken much better plough
David farming footage Angus I’ve never heard o a KV ploo crackin or breakin especially as me boss’s een is in the teens o years old and never been welded and they ploo heavy grund
