Hello everyone. I am popping the strings with one hand. I'm basically placing my finger underneath the string and pulling upward. Its a little tricky but like anything else, if you practice it enough it starts to feel normal. Thanks to all of you for watching and please check out my new video titled - Kevin Keith - Keep On
So most of you can be aware, you have probably heard the Chapman stick many times without knowing it. Tony Levin has played the stick for years in support of King Crimson, Peter Gabriel and many others.
A vocalist I know works with a stick player and has asked me to play jazz piano with them. Sooo looking forward to it. Kevin you are a true artist brother. Love your vibe.
Love your groove. Please ,please get more of your awesome stuff online, or more CD's. You`re one hell of a unique type of band, and I finally, with your help, got many people into listening to jazz, and exploring its rich texture and variety. Thank you for enriching my life, you just rock!
You are awsome man !!! John Myung, Tony Levin and Nick Beggs are awsome prog Chapman players (which I love) but it's really nice to listen some funky jazz on this top innovative instrument. Thanks a lot
Never listened to Jazz music. Never even heard of this instrument but my my I am impressed. I play the electric guitar myself and although it is not my style I want to look into this instruments a little bit more.
As someone who loves The Stick, has wanted to play one for well over 10 years, and is FINALLY saving for one, I can say that the 1 "Must-Have" upgrade is the ACTV-2 Pickup Block shown in the video that KK is using - having tried all 3 pickup options, I feel the ACTV-2 has MY tone (there's no "best"), is able to cut thru on both the Bass and Treble sides and gives you a large amount of tonal options. However, EMG incorrectly names the pickups in the ACTV: it's the FT tele pup, not the ST Strat.
@Nickiefive I could be wrong but I think he's slipping his finger under the higher strings of the bass side and then popping them out to get the pop sound.
@gerrysanful That, sir, would be a Chapman Stick. In essence, it's a 5-string bass and a 5-string guitar mashed together back-to-back on a single fretboard. And it is possibly the most stunning instrument I have ever witnessed in a musical setting.
Like Victor Wooten does with his thumping? You're thumping but with your index finger? I'm trying to do it on a 8 string guitar but I don't quite get it...btw pretty groovy track :)
It's funny because after watching Tosin's video, I went to this expecting something similar but it's actually kinda jazz-y and smooth. Totally different stuff LOL.
For the record or so, the theme reminds me of a piece from the band "Bruford" from beginning of the -80´s. I think was called Five G..? I´m a Stick Tapper 2, but this is Really Good Funk Music. !
i know this is called a stick guitar its hooked up to some heavy synths tho probably one of those roland gr 55's but what is the tuning for one of these it seems the bass strings are in the middle im used to more traditional guitars so it would be quite a trick to figure this thing out looks fun tho

Outrageous, man.
Tremendous playing.
How the hell do u play a slap bassline at the same time as guitar parts
That’s awesome. Kind of like a pull off you’re doing. I really dig it.
Thanks to everyone at EMG for a great time and great products.
You guys are the best!
Kevin Keith

It's not a mindblowing use of one, but I loved his sound when he used one for No Self Control by Peter Gabriel.
Skippy McStringStrum Most of Tony's work with Gabriel is like that. Just exactly what the song needs to move it along.
A vocalist I know works with a stick player and has asked me to play jazz piano with them. Sooo looking forward to it.
Kevin you are a true artist brother. Love your vibe.
Best Chapman stick performance ever this deserves way more views.
Absolutely fabulous !!! that was some talent you don't see everyday and find everywhere !!! Bravo !! Bravo !!
Looks like he's playing a giant pencil.

You showed really good mastery of your instrument of choice. I don't know that I have ever seen one of these. Cool song, and well done sir.
i like how the bass line is the melody and the sustaining notes are in the treble/mid range
YES! CHAPMAN STICK AWARENESS IS ON THE RISE!
i love how easy he makes playing that look! much respect!
the left hand technique with the popping of the high strings is dope as hell.
There needs to be more Chapman Stick players in this world...
You are awsome man !!! John Myung, Tony Levin and Nick Beggs are awsome prog Chapman players (which I love) but it's really nice to listen some funky jazz on this top innovative instrument. Thanks a lot

Saw this related to a Gojira song, came here and got blown away by the professionality and genious playing by the guy.
Never listened to Jazz music. Never even heard of this instrument but my my I am impressed. I play the electric guitar myself and although it is not my style I want to look into this instruments a little bit more.

Chapman Stick is definitely its own instrument and sound, requiring a particular form of dexterity and facility.

@DylNewman Its called a Chapman Stick and is used as is and as a midi controller. Its an extremely cool and versatile instrument!
best use of this instrument yet
Bro, you Rock!
Oh, my cousin have one stick too but he uses a midi pickup which allows him to sound like a bass and a piano (for example) at the same time!!
id love to see Buckethead do something crazy on one of these :D
After Tyson bit his ear off, Evander Holyfield knew he must make a change. This is the result of that change.
mac flapalicious yeah too bad he'll never hear in stereo again 😂
So, this is the guy they call for the weather music I always hear...
I WANT one of those!!!
This guy is great!!!
The second part of this... Is there a recording of this? Does it have a name? I LOVE the sound!

That guy is unreal!!!!
Hmm its hard to decide for me whats his Play and whats the backing track?!?
But it sounds very amazing!
is he a pianist or a bassist? amazing man...

@Nickiefive I could be wrong but I think he's slipping his finger under the higher strings of the bass side and then popping them out to get the pop sound.

Coolest dude on emgtv
it's a guitar inside a bass and it sounds frikin awesome!
Increible ese man!

Nice Job Man!!
this is talent!
Need one of those.
@TreyMoore92 Yes, that's a chapman stick. It's a two handed type instrument that's related to guitar a lot.
GENIUS!!
I'm thoroughly impressed by this man. If you think he's good at chapman stick, see him play bass.
I've never seen this.... thing. Does it help with "one handed playing" as he is doing?
since i cannot afford a chapman stick, do you think a mirrored 8 string guitar shall do? sorry for my bad english, thanks!
@gerrysanful That, sir, would be a Chapman Stick. In essence, it's a 5-string bass and a 5-string guitar mashed together back-to-back on a single fretboard. And it is possibly the most stunning instrument I have ever witnessed in a musical setting.
amazing.
0:49-0:51 is so Richard Pryor saying yeah uh-hm we bad...The look on his face at that moment tells you that is serious Funk!
@FenderrMann
It says it in the video description. It's a Chapman stick.
0:51 BEST GROOVE RIGHT HERE
Like Victor Wooten does with his thumping? You're thumping but with your index finger? I'm trying to do it on a 8 string guitar but I don't quite get it...btw pretty groovy track :)
Whats weird is i listen to deathcore and just all metal and now i LOVE THIS! ? weird?
It's funny because after watching Tosin's video, I went to this expecting something similar but it's actually kinda jazz-y and smooth. Totally different stuff LOL.
After watching this video, I really wanna learn to play on a Chapman Stick :)
