Me too. I know other people who have said it was anti-climactic. To me it just shows that the end game is just to kill people, it doesn't really matter how.
Interesting how he seemed to take no joy out of it, as if it was an act of desperation rather than depravity.

@@screamthroughdreams People wanted the usual epic fight between villain and final girl; a lot of people don't to have their expectations subverted because it confuses them. But I thought it was absolutely brilliant.
In Terrifier one of the best outcomes you can hope for is a shot to the head. Honestly she kind of "won" as far as the movie was going to allow her to considering what he does to the others.
Art the Clown is an interesting slasher. While Jason and Michael Myers are unrelenting, emotionless superhuman monsters, Art seems to be a high-functioning killer. I mean, he's aware of his appearance enough to use a coin-op laundromat to wash his costume. Towards the end, he spits at Sierra, a conscious display of hate I can't imagine other slashers doing.
He only kills on Halloween... I can assume he's capable of taking off his makeup and costume and passing as a normal guy the rest of the year. Sure, he might be supernatural, but he displays evil human characteristics which make him super scary.
Jason displayed signs of hate towards the guy that shot his clothes with paintball in Jason lives so I wouldn't say other killers are purely emotionless it's just they often maintain a oddly specific frame throughout most movies with exceptional Cases as mentioned
Honestly I feel like Terrifier 1 was almost a test run to see if Art could stand fully on his own after so many asked for it. With its cult status established Terrifier 2 set up fan actual story to go with him.
I haven't watched either terrifier but i've seen clips ,not sure i can stomach the bleach salt scene and it sounds like the second movie is way too long in duration . But as OTT as Art the clown is ... the thought of him without his costume and makeup just 'casually' walking about outside of Halloween, is really creepy and disturbing and something i never thought about. But if he only Kills /goes on a psychotic rampage on Halloween, then it makes you wonder what is he doing for the rest of the time?. I roll my eyes every time they make a killer UN killable and supernatural though .
@@gemstar7286 Terrifier two didnt feel too long watching it, I caught it 3 times (3 different groups) in theaters and honestly the first one FEELS longer. If you arnt much into horror/gore then yeah it might be too much but I didnt see anyone leave the theater at any of the 3 showings i saw. Terrifier is a special case for me with him being supernatural because if he WASNT then the movies would be even more ridiculous, Like in the first one he saws through a woman long ways in all of 15 seconds....if he WASNT supernatural that scene would be laughably bad.
@@masterreaper115 I've seen a clip of the saw scene , it's grim. I guess we should have known the second movie would do something more extreme. Makes you wonder where they'll take the third movie . Like how much more can they push it with the gore and shock value ?.
the real crime Art committed is his crimes against dental hygiene.
Think it's one benefit of his profession - as a horror clown you have some benefits like not brushing your teeth, taking showers or clean your murder tools. Something has to counterbalance that you have to work on holidays and do night shifts I guess...

The bedroom kill in the second one was one of the only moments where I felt genuinely sick and uncomfortable in a theater.

As much as I enjoyed Terrifier 1 and 2, I cannot watch the sawed in half and bedroom scenes again. It was so effective I just can't watch those again.
This is the only scene in my horror watching history (I've seen 100s) where I turned off the movie mid-way not because I was bored or uninterested, but because I just didn't want to sit through such mean spirited depravity for another minute.
The bleach salt scene legit had me gagging but not because it was somehow more gory than other movies I’ve seen. It’s just so much so quickly and so mean spirited and maintained consciousness it became overwhelming to the point I got physically ill. It was like horror overstimulation
I thought it was much blood and gore it got boring.
It definitely got my heart rate bumpin!

It was so overkill it became comical to me. I had to kinda laugh and be like “wait, she’s still alive? How!?”
I love how senseless 1 was. No familial connection, no demonic ritual- just total strangers incidentally crossing paths with Art
And that in itself is terrifying. It can happen to either one of us randomly.
The goth girl he shoots up and the girl at the very end are sisters. It's shown multiple times.
@@Tores444 It wasn't because they were sisters that he goes after her, which is the point. He wouldn't have tracked her down after killing her sister because of familial connection. He goes after her because she's just.... there.
The added mythology in the sequel robbed Art of a lot of his power. Definitely a case where less is more.
@@SaddenedSoulI felt the exact opposite. The first one, was just overdone with gratuitous mean spirited violence. The second one has I thought a better sense of humor and characters/story

Same. I was excited to see Ryan was doing the video because I was intrigued by things I'd heard about the second movie. But the first one is one of the only films I wish I never watched.
I think the little clown girl in T2 might be connected to the first movie. In the newspaper that they look at, her name is "Emily Crane", Emily being what the Cat Lady in T1 named the porcelain doll she mothered like a real child. I'm just theorising here but what if the clown girl was the cat lady's daughter prior to Art killing her, making the mother go insane and continue trying to parent her deceased daughter through the porcelain doll. That'd be wild
Oh damn, that actually sounds entirely plausible.
It would make sense as to why she would be there in the first place, and why she would've bothered trying to 'get through' to Art. Without this context, one could see her as a crazy, homeless cat lady but I can't help but feel she contributed more to the story. I think a movie going in depth of her and Emily's story would be fantastic, I kinda think you're onto something here.

So mutilating Emilie turned her into the Clown Girl. Maybe Art knew the cat lady was her mother and killing her like he did somehow turned her into a Clown for the 3rd movie so she can be with her daughter. But that sounds a little too compassionate for Art so idk.
It's stated that the clown is actually a demon in form of a little girl that art killed she was his first kill she or it s what brought him bacc to life after he shot himself in the head she is a demon that basically enjoys having art kill for her she enjoys his work so to speak
Terrifier gave me huge nostalgia towards films like Saw and Wrong Turn. The type of low-budget yet passionate films that delves into the unfiltered violence horror can get away with.
Saw was only like that since 2 or 3. The first one was actually an amazing thriller. A great film really, only after gaining traction because of the violence it turned to torture porn with nearly satirical twists.
Did anybody else find Wrong Turn 2 a so-bad-funny camp film? I found it more interesting than the first anyway, or the sequels.
Art gets many camp moments in Terrifier 2 like dancing along with the guitar player on fire and more.

Tried to rewatch Wrong Turn recently and just couldn't get into it. The teens were awful! The second one with the family really is so much better.
Honestly Art the Clown was more frightening than the IT remake films
Anyone who thinks the new IT remake is spooky is kinda a wuss tbh. The CGI is was just so campy and honestly Roger in Who framed Roger Rabbit is visually more terrifying
I havent watched the art movies but i went to see it chapter one and while i wasnt scared or spooked mainly just laughed at the jokes bill skarsgard's performance as pennywise at least in my opinion was amazing.
Specialy with fitting inside that fucking fridge i hate contorsionists.

The make-up is based on Pierrot, A French addition to Commedia dell'Arte. Pierrot is romantic, usually an unrequited lover. I found it fascinating that the actor playing Art used some of the tropes of Pierrot in the scene you showed from the pizza place.
Idk why but Art the Clown gets under my skin more so than most villains. Just the thought of someone having so much F-U-N FUN while butchering me (quickly if I'm lucky) turns my stomach.
I still get legitimately creeped out at the very end of All Hallows Eve when Art starts walking toward the screen like he’s about to come out of the TV.
Exactly, he's like a more f*cked up Freddy Krueger who was already having fun killing people but Art takes it to level 100
The line about being in his world immediately brought to mind the words of one of the coolest Disney villains of all time (at least imho) - Dr Facilier.

OMG yes Dr. Facilier is definitely the coolest villain! He’s so painfully underrated. I’m hoping that as Splash Mountain in Disney World gets revamped into a Princess and the Frog attraction as well as a Princess and the Frog themed restaurant in Disneyland that we’ll get more of Dr. Facilier including merch, etc.

I don't plan on watching the Terrifier movies because I think they're way too much for me, but I enjoy watching youtubers talk about it to sate my morbid curiosity. Same I can't stand brutality type horror. Tried watching the first 10 minutes of the first film. I had to turn it off. I like more supernatural horror, aliens, werewolf, vampire and detective mysteries.

Been waiting for this! Terrifier gets a lot of flack for being "torture porn" and "mean spirited horror" (which is understandable) but I think it has a certain charm to it. It's basically everything you imagined horror movies to be when you were a kid, but were too afraid to actually watch. It pulls no punches whatsoever.
Mean spirit horror? What exactly is that? Is there a "overly nice and friendly horror?"
Sorry, I just find the phrase "mean spirited horror" to be kinda absurd and perplexing...but that's kinda terrifying

@@darkservantofheaven When the movie itself is intentionally antagonistic to the characters, constant Deus ex diablous to facilitate the torture porn, you can perfectly visualize the creator mouthing out the words "fuck you" to the audience the entire run time. That sorta stuff.
Not only one of your most interesting analysis, but perhaps the most interesting take on these films I've seen.
While I can't nor want to say I *like* Art as a character, there was something endearing about his presence in the first film. All of which was enhanced by the subversion of pure evil overcoming any shred of humanity. It all stuck with me, like a grim reminder that as much as society celebrates slasher villains, they're monsters.
Then the sequel comes out and it all felt cheapened, leaning hard into the genre boundaries that the first pushed against. So instead of leaving me with thoughts reflecting on our strange relationship with and the culture surrounding slasher villains, I'm left wondering what kind of message the first movie had at all, and if I was just looking too hard between the lines.
All that said, Leone does seem like a real hardworking guy and I love success stories like his so I'll be more than happy to see the next film, but I'll be going in with lower expectations in most areas except for the unrelenting brutality.
As if Art could not be any more frightening, you had to recontextualize him as a mime (which I find much more creepy and unnerving than clowns) and now I honestly can't even look at him.
The way he looks at Allie when she calls him a "mime" is when i knew she was going to get absolutely devastated.

Art is the 21st century Pennywise. He's absolutely amazing and was an instant fave for me. He's over-the-top for the sake of being over-the-top, but he's also has a mysterious backstory that the writers seem (thankfully) reluctant to reveal. He's perfect for a slasher grindhouse villain. He's just fun!
I loved the various references to classic slasher movies in the first Terrifier. Like he wears the skin of a girl and dances around like Buffalo Bill, he rides a tricycle like the Saw puppet. And the main one, which I think HAD to be intentional, unceremoniously killing the main character and bringing in her sister. It had to be a reference to Psycho, especially with all the other references. Such fun movies
I am still bummed they didn’t raise enough money for the totally pointless mass murder of the school dance. Woulda slapped tbh.
I am still kind of sour that the second one was marketed as ”the most violent movie ever”. Which it Isnt. There is a good horror flick besides the PR nonsense.
What i do love about Terrifier 2 is that it’s the perfect (modern) giallo movie. Everything from the cinematography, the slightly surreal script, the over the top violence with the ”Dawn of the Dead-esque” pinkish blood. And the laser-eyed demon/ghosts. Also, the magnificent synth soundtrack.
The violence in Terrifier is so over the top, that it can’t be taken seriously. I rather watch something like this, than with realistic violence. I get way more disturbed, uneasy when watching ”History of Violence”, Oldboy (The Korean) or Irreversible than watching this.

It wasn't marketed like that , the creator even said he was surprised to read so many reviews where people ran out the theater or threw up cause that was not his intention. If anything social media and news hyped up the film to being the goriest movie you'll ever see

But not only here in Scandinavia, but in most parts of Europe the different publishers decided to go with the social media buzz, it WAS promoted as the most goriest film ever. And it was basically the only thing that the different onlinen promotions, blog posts, trailers and what not decided to focus on. and just ignore the intention of the director.

Sooner or later the limits to which violent, over-the-top horror flicks can be pushed are going to plateau. And that happened well before Terrifier ever hit screens. Still great though.
My main issue with Terrifier 2, apart from how its mean spiritedness doesn't vibe with me at all, is that it feels like a project where the editor wasn't allowed to cut anything out. Those two and a half hours consist of so much needless filler, and then it just kind of... decides to end. To me, this franchise has got so much of the body horror that I normally enjoy without any of the engaging plot to make it meaningful. Lovely practical effects, but to me they feel a bit wasted.
I think the fact that Art had a gun on his person this whole time reveals a terrifying implication. If all he wanted to do was kill these victims, he could have just used the gun.
He didn't though. It's fun to him. He enjoys making the characters die in awful ways. He enjoys violence

I saw terrifier 2 with my dad in theaters and almost passed out at the salt and bleach, and I fucking love shit like silent hill and saw
It’s actually ok to close your eyes and stop your ears for a few minutes when it gets too much. I wouldn’t recommend attempting to leave the theater while shaken up, it’s dark and disorienting, while the thing that’s upsetting you that much is now happening BEHIND you, which doesn’t help.

I thought the implication was that Art was somehow Sienna's father, who drew the prophetic comic images and later brought them to reality. I think it's stated that he died of a brain tumor, that and like, hereditary schizophrenia could've messed with his personality and caused him to become Art the clown. And also gave him supernatural slasher villain powers(?)
Also, the scenes with the little brother could be seen as implying being a pyscho killer is hereditary in the male line. Also, this gives the final battle the subtext that the kids have overcome the grief over losing their father they've struggled with throughout the film by literally killing whatever remains of their father.
I never heard of that theory but it may hold some water or validity.

Art is a demon from hell. There’s a prequel to the movie called All Hallow’s Eve where it’s somewhat explained.

It's stated that he had a brain tumor and then drove his car into a transformer and blew himself up. Totally possible that he's Art, totally possible that the dad somehow got powers that brought his creations to life.
You know Ryan Hollinger is dedicated to his fans if he has to look at this face for many days on is editing Suite.
The ending of Terrifier 1 was a double subversion because the final girl is killed and the killer used a gun, which is kind forbidden for slashers, that as the name sugest, must use sharp melee weapons. Art pulling a gun on the final girl was he basically saying "f*ck the rules"
These movies were rancid, but I remember busting out laughing so hard when I saw Art bust out a gun in the first film - it was just like "Alright, fuck this. I came here to have a good time, you jerk."
The guy who was cast as Art the Clown OWNED that role, it was so fun to watch him be such a vile menace.
I loved 2 but my main issue was definitely the length. They could've cut a few bits out like the party scene could've been a lot shorter

I went to see Terrifier 2 and the theatre was sold out. It was probably one of my favorite movie experiences ever. Art was such a fun killer because he looked like he was having the time of his life the whole movie.
Same in my theater. Especially cause the movie only played 2 days . It was at night and when i went home it was 2 in the morning . I was really surprised to see the theater sold out that late at night ( it was also a thursday, the middle of the week when most people need to work the next day )
I haven't met the actor but apparently he's super nice.
I found it curious how Art could see the little girl but the guy in the laundromat couldn’t, and then both Jonathon and Sienna could also see her. Shared psychic connection? She’s a ghost (the little girl who was killed in the carnival years before) who only some can see? She’s a demon (when her eyes glow yellow) who only shows herself to some people?
I loved this movie so much, I’m stoked to hear a 3rd is in production!

Art is so sadistic in his approach. And he took loving his craft to whole another lvl.
Where the likes of Jason, Michael Myers kill their victims almost emotionlessy, Art is doing it with excitement and taking pleasure from every move.
Even Freddy who likes to torture his victims isn't as sadistic as Art, cause Art the Clown pulls every trick in the book to break his prey and scar it for the rest of its life (if it manages to survive).
Also, 1:14 - I just cannot watch at this frame of Art and not burst out laughing. It's so dam hilarious.
I work at a theater where we were playing the 2nd movie and I remember watching the very end of it completely surprised to see a movie go to the places it goes
People often sleep on how OP art the clown is too. I’ve always gotten the impression that art himself represents an artist playing around in a macabre sandbox with absolute control over reality itself. Even into the 4th wall

It's honestly kind of impressive how quickly Terrifier turned Art the Clown into an undeniable horror icon, mostly because of David Howard Thornton's genuinely fantastic performance. Even though I know it'll be an intense film to sit through, I can't deny that I'm curious to see how they're going to top themselves in part 3... I know they will but I just have no idea how

I find both films (especially 2) to be very funny. It's so clear that everyone on set is having over-the-top fun with practical effects and, really, that's about it. They're just doing it better than anybody else in western horror right now, so I completely understand the box-office success. It's for a niche audience that has been massively underserved for many years. Looking forward to T3.
I love the idea that one of the powers, maybe the true power of the demon or whatever Art is, is the ability to keep you alive longer than what would be normal. Like he's a literal walking circle of hell on Earth...

not in the greatest mood today, so I needed this. I loved the first Terrifier, haven't had a chance to see the sequel, but I hope I will soon. I really like how both of Art's actors fully embody the character and just... commit to the bit. I also watched an interview (?) with one of Art's actors (from the first Terrifier) and he seems like a really cool, respectful guy!
Both full length Terrifier films feature David Howard Thornton. When you say first actor do you mean the one who played Art in All Hallows' Eve?

Thank you for covering these. A friend of mine absolutely loves these movies and even bought them on low print run VHS as collectables. These are not my cup of tea, so I'm glad I could see what all the fuss was about through a well narrated 18 min video.
Watching the second film in theaters with my siblings has become a core memory.
Art is the new iconic slasher belonging to be up there with the greats. Reminds me most of Chucky, one second you're chuckling at his antics and the next cringing at the brutality of his crimes. Can't wait for Damien Leone to give us a threequel!
He doesn't really deserve a spot next to the greats imo. No story, not enough character development. He's just a clown that kills people for pleasure, pretty boring for me but to each their own
Absolute overrated crap! Any movie that stoops that low to depict human excrement as a “ shock factor” deserves nothing! There’s enough real life unpleasantness in world, it’s bizarre any one could treat this as a masterpiece! 80s slashers did it better!

There are PLENTY of graphic, disgusting horror movies from the 60s, 70s and 80s. But since you're not really a horror fan, you've never seen them.

You could genuinely feel how much love and understanding the writer-director had for the genre, wider audience probably dont think of it as more than the latest spooky gore movie, but I think its a celebration of decades of slashers and low budget movie making. Not to mention its actually hilarious

It’s definatly something to watch with a group. I saw it at the theatre with some friends and it was a blast. The bedroom scene had everyone laughing and freaking out due to how insanely demented and how darkly funny it was
I remember people in our theater were just go crazy over it.

Damien Leone absolutely NAILED the feel of an 80s slasher. When I first saw this movie I had no idea it had just come out until I saw the phones and checked for the release date, I genuinely thought it was an older movie
I enjoyed Terrifier 1 as it was just a slasher cat and mouse chase. The second one decided to… have a plot. And themes. The angels vs demons with costumes, the whole thing in the of the girl’s dad who either predicted Art’s reign of terror or could even BE her father… It just got so bogged down in trying to have an interesting plot that it ruined the pace of the film. A movie like this need not be two hours and eighteen minutes long! Def could’ve been streamlined.
That being said, they’re certainly creatively entertaining.
Also, an aside: extremely different looks between the two films. The first has HEAVY contrast, and the second had MINIMAL contrast. Like, there’s barely any deeply blacks in the sequel, while in the first half the screen might be an undefinable black.
The only thing I could think of after watching the first one was, "There's no way any hospital in America would just leave this girl with her face like that." They would at least try some skin graphs or something. What did she not have insurance? She was a college student, and we saw her parents at the end of the movie. She would still be under her parents' insurance.

Fun fact: The opening music you use was also used for the Intro of the RPG Fear and Hunger and has basically come synonymous with it in the fandom. One of the villains in the sequel (Fear and Hunger 2) is heavily influenced by the aesthetics of the character of Art The Clown.

If there's anything I appreciate the most about what you do and the way you do it, it'd be this:
I grew up being a weenie and, as a result, didn't expose myself to a lot of horror movies. After getting older and trying to watch more of them, I found a lot of the ones I was being made to watch were just kinda bad. But you've helped point me in the right direction of worthwhile horror. Even ones that might be considered less than great, but still fun all the same.
One thing I do like about 2 over 1 is that someone can actually face down Art. By that point it's been 3 movies with him as nigh unbeatable so I found it cathartic watching him actually lose. Still, I kinda wish it became something like Evil Dead where the protag and Art engage in gorey looney tunes bits with one another.
I'd say it's a testament to Damien Leone and his vision. He started off working in special effects (he did all of them for the Terrifier movies) so he already has experience with the "messed up" side.
As for Art himself? Well the idea of having a miming clown being a psycho is really cool.

When Art snaps her one arm back and forth and rips it off only to be followed by him tearing her other hand apart down the middle by wrenching her fingers in opposite directions had me squirming and laughing at the same time. Wow, what a scene.

I got to listen to the actor for Art talk about his role while vending a convention a few years ago, and apparently they got the cops called on them cause some randoms on the street saw Art covered in blood when he was away from the cameras. Absolutely perfect timing as Art the Clown just popped up in the trailer for the Peacock show “Bupkis” that just dropped yesterday!
Ever since I learned that Art the Clown had no idea he was supernatural before killing himself at the end of the first film, I've been a fan. He's a fascinating and uniquely terrifying slasher villain, and David Howard Thornton brings so much life to the character! His facial acting and physicality remind me a bit of a demented Jim Carrey, and I fucking love it. And I was so lucky to see Terrifier 2 on the big screen-it was one of the most incredible theater experiences I've ever had! These films are nasty and often mean-spirited, but it's such a breath of fresh air for me, as an avid fan of splatter flicks and the indie slashers of yore. Horror has experienced a kind of renaissance in recent years, and Art the Clown has most certainly contributed to that!
If I could recommend a video topic, whether itd be for a full video or a Dead Space style one, I’ve been playing this game called Immortality. Best way I can describe it is it’s basically a found footage game, where you uncover footage from an actor’s trilogy of films, trying to figure out the mystery of her disappearance as well as the fates of her co-stars. There’s also some sinister secrets hidden within the footage that can really send chills down your spine. I feel itd might be something you’d be interested in playing and talking about, especially with the unusual way the story is presented.

I just watched Terrifier a few weeks ago and I think Art the Mime might be the creepiest, most effective antagonist in horror. The movie itself is lean and gory and absolutely fantastic. Terrifier surprised me, and I love discovering movies that do that.
Great video Ryan! This video came out coincidentally a few days after I watched Terrifier 2 and I too compared it to Zombie’s Halloween 2 with how it deals with lore and backstory. I swear I’m not trying to say “two/too” as much as possible lol.

As someone who was absolutely petrified by horror movies as a child, the fact that I actively love this series, to the point where I have Terrifier 2 in a special edition steelbook Blu Ray, is shocking to me. But it's legitimately interesting and horrifying cinema, with Art being such a wildly entrancing character that he just pulls you in and makes you wonder what he could even do next to up the ante. It feels like All Hallow's Eve and Terrifier were almost like proof of concept films, both of which work very well in different ways, while Terrifier 2 really is what Leone wanted to do with more budget. That said, I didn't see it as undoing the subversion of the original Terrifier, but subverting audiences expectations again by being a surprisingly accessible film in terms of story, but absolutely revolting in terms of gore and nihilistic violence. And all the background nods to the original films makes it feel very much like Leone has a grand plan for this little dreadful universe of his. I'm eagerly anticipating the third, and I can't wait to see how it ties together while getting even crazier.
Terrific video Ryan. The Wolf Creek comparison is spot on. Keep it up mate! Maybe do The Brood if you haven't already. I have not seen it for years but is still the most disturbing film I've ever seen.
The weird thing is for me is that I have an average fear of clowns and when I found out about Art the Clown I find him more amusing due to his ‘Mr. Bean-like’ characteristics as well as being a serial killer. I love it where he takes joy in killing his victims but gets really pisses off or weirded out when a victim fights him back 😂
I personally see the 2 films as two different sets of homage. The first being much more akin to the grindhouse splatterfest video nasties of theate 70's early 80's; and the second being more like the more generic slightly higher budget slasher films of the mid 80's that would play with slightly higher concepts due to more welcoming audiences.
You brought up some valid grievances about the sequel. I hope part 3 is more like part 1.
My main complaint about 2 was the 15 minute long dream sequence that did nothing for the movie. Cut that useless stuff out, and you'd get a reasonable 2 hours.
As much as I love horror films, sometimes I'm good not watching some of them, I learned my lesson after watching the original Martyrs almost a decade ago...
I despise the first terrifier movie, it feels so cheap and mean. But I love the second one. It feels like an actual movie, it’s fun in the goriest way and Art the clown is such an enjoyable villian to watch. I love how over the top the kills are, it’s very clear when people’s bodies are swapped out for dummies, I find it really charming. And everyone in the second movie feels like they’re having a great time, especially the actor that plays Art the clown. But I totally get why people wouldn’t enjoy it

Art pulling out the gun was such an awesome twist. Prior to that I didn't even think of guns as a possibility, probably due to their lack of presence in slasher films. Whenever a gun does show up in slashers, it's usually just the police in the last act. So even though it seems kind of obvious for a killer who doesn't want to be overtaken to carry a gun, I genuinely had an "Oh fuck!" moment when he shot her.
What song are you playing during the credits? I have heard it a few times in your videos and I have always been curious.
My first exposure to Terrifier was from Dead Meat's The KILL COUNT, and just from that video (an obviously partly censored, toned down video commentating on the film) I couldn't even stomach the idea of checking the whole thing out myself. Then, when I watched the recent "Dead Meat Horror Awards 2023," they showed a death scene from Terrifier 2 (the bedroom kill, if you guys know what I mean), and that was even worse and made me audibly yell obscenities while occasionally looking away 😂
I understand there are gore hounds who live for the most violent and blood-drenched content possible, and I’m fine that there are films that target that audience-No one is forcing me to partake. But I think the credit for successful movies in that genre should be primarily focused on the special effects artists. The narrative, script, performances, and frankly, even the direction, seem secondary in their contribution to the film’s “quality” compared to the realism and extremity of the gore effects. I think there is a conversation to be had over whether gore-based horror constitutes cinematic “art” when up against more restrained presentations that use more subtle methods to engender unease and terror, but I am not prepared to engage in that debate. There seems room for both styles at the multiplex.
Oh you're absolutely right about the fact that more credit should go to the special effects artists, they're really amazing & I feel as if people don't give this branch of art the respect it deserves. Also, about the gore-centric films being or not being considered "art", I think it really depends on what your definition of "art" is. To me, it's just something that someone makes because they thought it up, whether it's "good" or "bad". That's why I consider stuff like product design, engineering, etc., to be art. So in my head, nearly everything is art, therefore gory flicks are art. The fact that I really like gore definitely helps, lol. But yeah, depends on what "art" is to you, and since it's different for everyone, I doubt we (as in, society in general) will ever conclude whether gore holds up as art next to more "artsy" films. IMO, it's a bit pretentious to sanction gore as lesser just cause it's bloody or not as nuanced (not saying that's what u said, just a general comment)
I hope there is more stalking, chase scenes, and awkward moments in the next film. Arts a spectical. A train wreck you can't look away from. The kill have more impact if there ensues prior. The kill is a nice payoff.

I'm a huge horror movie fan but I've never wanted to watch these kind of gratuitous slasher/sadistic horror films. Even just hearing of the violence in the Terrifier films makes me feel sick and deeply uncomfortable. I simply don't get any entertainment value out of watching people get brutalised for fun.
I have come to the realization that must be total desensitized to horror movies bc every time another one comes out, this one in particular, not to say i didn't like this movie bc i did, i hear how scary, unsettling, or just out right gory i get excited that I'll finally find one that truly scares me and 9 out of 10 times I'm let down. In fact the only horror movies that I've seen in the past 20 plus years that really made jump, cringe, or get that creeped out feeling were Fall, Frozen(not Disney) and Eden Lake. I would l love any suggestions on some good scary movies to watch if anyone has any.
