- The 3 final songs performed by Dokken with George Lynch joining Don & the boys at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa on March 10th, 2023 in 4K.
Anyone that ever played guitar knows how good George is...smh...he's incredible
Just happy seeing these 2 on stage again. Life's too short for old grudges.
Yeah definitely 🤘
Dunno. From what he's been saying in the new interviews for their newest album, grudge is still there. He still takes time to say he still wanted Warren DeMartini instead of George, that he really didn't want to bring George on stage for stuff like this and he doesn't see himself playing with George again in the future. They just don't connect well and George is too different now as a player than he was back then and thinks it hurts the songs.
The Grudge lives on! George just now called Dokken out for all the lying he does.
@@johnbon6 excatly! even now in 2024 it continues I see Robbeck67 hasn't responded to acknowledge anything
Sadly Don's singing days are over. George will always be in my top five guitar players!
Cancer and paralysis after a back surgery will do that. George will always dissapoint fans by doing 12 projects a year and refuse to tour for each and every one.
The George of Dokken days played much better than Mr woke Lynch of today. He used to be more "found" in his style and it was amazing sound and quality. Today, he is throwing finger picking and other tricks he has learned and traded over the years for the stuff that got him there. Look back at their video they did before they released Back For The Attack with him and Pilson simply jamming in a hotel room in "Scrotum Sound"...that was George at his best. Don wasn't the only one waning on this stage.
Does Satchel from Steel Panther make your top 5
top 5? lol Just wondering where does SRV sit on your list?
@@FullChokeFowl I disagree completely. I think the finger picking and all of the other "tricks" he has added to his playing over the last few decades have made him a more multi-dimensional player.
To me, Lynch has always been extremely unique not only in his playing, but his note choices. All of the things he has picked up and added to his playing over the years, IMESHO, have made his performances that much more rich. I love hearing his new interpretations of things he wrote and recorded 40+ years ago.
For example, when he's performing Tooth and Nail in this video, in the lead sections he is making sure to hit all of the "things that got him there" (ie: trem picking and hammer runs) while ad libbing and being a little more funky in the rhythms and spaces in between.
Also IMESHO, his best era was that of Lynch Mob, not Dokken. Wicked Sensation, though a little self-indulgent, is a guitar masterpiece and absolutely Lynch's best body of work overall.
Easily in my top three players of all time.
Those instantly recognizable semi-tone slow bends, so melodic and emotional. You know a George Lynch lick the moment you hear it.
Nailed it ~
George was on fire!
Man he sure was!
He overplays everything
@@badmonkey2222 these are the songs George wrote 35-40 years ago. The man can over play what ever he wants. Go listen to lynch mob total different style
@@badmonkey2222 Overplays? What does that even means? You must be jealous of his Amazing Talent and Glorious career as a Musician
Don also 😂
Amazing how George live can sound like he's playing multiple parts at the same time.
I think he kinda is ;)
He's definitely gifted
He’s that incredible.
Total respect for Don!!! George and Don are legends of our time!!!
I hate it when people nag on don for his voice, thank u for being respectful to him
🎸🙋♀️Yes they are our incredible legends. I love & respect them too! My x husband’s name is Mark Smith😊
@@ToriS61910 I don’t understand why some people are so mean.
I am just thankful that he (Don Dokken)is still with us and is performing....these guys are legends. One of my all time favorite bands.
Awww man, poor Don, it is so obvious he is really unwell... struggling to even walk. Total respect to the guy for being onstage with George and taking the stage to share his music even in times of hardship 🔥❤️🔥
I seen, ya its cool George is doing this, not many times left
His back surgery and paralysis really fucked him up. Looking forward to the new Dokken album regardless.
Poor Don. He should know better ! Hang it up ! I have no pity for him.
Sad seeing our Rock Star bothers struggle. One of my favorite bands of all time. George is still ripping it!
100%
George is killing it in every way. His guitar sound is astounding. Some how age has taken a back row seat with him. Way in the back somewhere.
It's because he plays 24/7. He is awesome!
He watches what he eats, gets the appropriate amount of sleep for his age, exercise and doesn’t drink.
I wouldn’t imagine that one’s guitar tone diminishes the same way one’s voice would.
@@davidjtravers
Precisely. A little louder for those in the back. Guitars aren't biological like Don's vocal chords. Especially with throat surgeries.
George looks like hell as well as Don. I still remember seeing them live back in 1985 at the cow palace San Francisco and George did his solo and the two guys next to me said to each other, ' holy shit lynch is awesome,!!!'
I love Dokken, he is out there doing what he loves. And I respect that. Yes his voice is gone but we will always have the years and years of a magical singing voice , for now he is still here and that is enough for me!
Unchain The Night is one of my favourite hard rock / metal tunes ever, the original from Under Lock & Key is simply fantastic, stick it on in the car on the way to work, you soon forget about work for 5 minutes! George is in his 60s, close your eyes and you'd think you're listening to a firey 25 year old. Great post, Cheers...
George still has it ,you know it seems the older top rated guitar players get they just get better and better ,hes one of my favorite players he has his own style no one can match as do many others ,I love it
For anyone wondering about Don. Remember he had vocal chord surgery *and* cancer treatment around 2010.
The wonders of decades of smoking.....
Was at this show, it's what you would expect. What was unexpected was hanging out in the lobby of the hotel drinkin beer well after the show when Don and his band walked in, got some pics, chatted for a bit and listened to him tell a few stories to a group of about 15 of us. Very cool guy
Lucky!!
Always loved the melodic solos George lays down. That's his true gift
Hey- I'm happy that they're both still alive and playing!! Rock on boys!!
Right on!
George is still smokin', and while time has taken its toll on Don, nothing but respect for him to still be up there, and anyone is lucky to see him period. He is a legend.
I was also at this show, been a fan since the eighties!! We all get older, I enjoyed it!! Keep Rockin Fella’s
Don is rocking the “In my dreams/Heaven sent” hat
I am thankful to see these guys are still able to perform. Let's not compare from 80s, we are in 2023 and this is still rocking for me.. I am already in my effing 40s and it gets me thrilled every time I listen these awesome songs.
I am 52 and these guys still get me going. Remember when Breaking the Chains was a new release lol!
@@user-kd4jm7dz1r Indeed!!!
I saw dokken at the monsters of rock back in the 80s at giants stadium. It was a long 9 hour event with other bands such as kingdom come, the scorpions who were amazing, Metallica and Van Halen who ended the show. So glad to say I saw eddie even just one time. Glad I got see dokken perform. Great memories.
Saw the one in Philly in 88’ was a monster show imagine Metallica going on 2nd but they’re handnt broken huge yet at that point … I got way too hammered on Jack N Coke and smoked a little too much weed and passed out after 3 VH songs on the parking lot and slept until my buds woke me after the show 😂🤣
I saw that same show at Foxborough Stadium. What a lineup!
I was at the Philly show in 88 too. Great lineup of some of my favorite bands and before ticket prices became insane like today.
I saw the same show at Houston's Rice Stadium. All the bands had great albums that came out in 87/88 . 🤘🤘
Was at the show in Philadelphia in 88’ as well spent 2 days partying in the parking lot.. things much different in those days! Was only 10 rows or so from stage when Metallica came out.. was awesome to see them in their beginning.. and Dokken was amazing! Always be a fan of the original guys! To bad we are all getting older.. miss the 80’s bands and shows for sure.! \m/ rock on!
fuck yeahhhhhh.....good to see these two together again...they make the best music
Damn, George is on fire. I know Don isn’t in the best place but I’m still content with what I’m hearing hear.
Fantastic performance... 😎👍👍🎉👏👏🔥🔥🎸🌟🌟🥂🍾 !!!!!!!
Unfortunately Don is no longer able to sing these songs today. I love Dokken, but listening to them like this breaks my heart. Now Don sings undertone, while George is impeccable.
With all the health issues Don has had, nothing but respect for him!
Respect for what? He's an embarrassment, and a straight cash grab from the crowd. He can't sing, and can't even talk the lyrics on key.
@@nickjohnson3622 atleast he is pushing himself to do what he loves instead of just laying around to die. If you cannot respect that and obviously there are still people who wanna see him then we can agree to disagree.
@@nickjohnson3622 Poor soul.
@@KISSFan1977 ... If you can't deliver the goods, you have no business being up there. What if George had debilitating arthritis? Should he go onstage not being able to play? Don's been through a lot granted, but he's a singer who clearly can't sing any longer. It's not about him, it's about the audience when you're an entertainer ... Otherwise it's all about you
@@nickjohnson3622 if people are still paying to see them that in itself speaks volumes. You might not wanna see them but you do not speak for everyone.
I really give it to Don for even being up there!!!
You do?
@@rickr2029absolutely! At least he’s not lip syncing or using tracks. You gotta understand dude singers age the worst because they’re not using their hands to play music they’re using their voice which tends to get more strained as we age and Don’s almost 70. I’m sure all the drug use in the 80s didn’t help either.
I appreciate what y’all are doing. Thank you Dokken
There is no Dokken without George.
You can tell George is playing even better..seems like he is being driven by emotion....
I've been a George Lynch fan since 1984 holy shit the man is inhuman and must be a facsimile 😮 🎸
George Lynch, 68 years old. Dude has found the fountain of youth!
Lynch always was about health!
@@stacydalebarendse3978 Really, he’s been seen smoking and drinking.
I know he exercises. I think he use to be a bodybuilder. Excellent guitarist. Love his music 🌺
Somebody please tell Don it's time..
😥
So sad to hear Don. I can't believe he even goes out there.
I saw them live a few weeks ago. I've seen these videos, so wasn't expecting much. However, in person, he didn't sound nearly as bad as this. He doesn't have a powerful voice so I think phone recordings pick up the music better than his voice. I enjoyed the show much more than I thought I would.
To all the people complaining about Don Dokken's vocals.. Who cares because with George playing in the background, you could have a 90 year old man singing and it would still sound like 10,000 humans being repeatedly stuck by a lightning bolt.
It's heartwarming seeing George showing up and doing this with ailing Don. It's like he's saying I'm still here for you man
I wish that was the case but George can't stand Don he still hates him.
"Spoken word" with Don Dokken and George Lynch ripping' on guitar.
A special shout out to the drummer and bass player for keeping pace with a legendary guitar player like George while carrying Don through the waning years of his life. 14:53
I wouldn’t say waning years he’s got years left id imagine
Waning years? Yeah, that's classy! Shut up!
The drummer lost the beat around 11:45 right before George started his solo...you see him walking back to get the drummer back on the beat. He added an extra measure in there.
I was fortunate enough to see these guys back in their hay day. It's hard to see time taking its toll... its course... but I will forever remember them on those stadium and arena stages just kickin' our butts from the first song on! George, Jeff, Mick, and Don... thanks for all the great music you gave us!
This is the one singer that needs those vocal tracks everyone talks about !
NO question. DD sounds horrible, like a 85 year old man trying to sing in the nursing home. Lynch sloppy as well. They must need the money 💲💰.
I am glad he seems to refuse to use them!
Much respect for don, the man tries to stay his happiest, he is 70 after all, people cant sound good forever, in my opinion he doesnt sound bad, hes just a singer without his high range anymore, ill always respect him no matter the cause or situation hes in.
George hasn’t lost a thing. Man can he play 🎸 !!!!!!!! 🔥🔥
Lynch is so good now it's insane. he's gotten even better. How the hell is that even possible? Don needs to wrap it up.
Don's still having fun, nothing wrong with that. Lynch is still insanely good. Easier for a guitarist to stay good over the years than a vocalist. Staying healthy is super important; George obviously is, Don obviously not.
@@michaelgarcia2050 I've come to learn that Don had some medical issues that effected his voice. My hat is off to him for still doing it though.
Love me some Dokken!
Thank you camera man. This is a George Lynch clinic. wow amazing.
I never thought these two would ever be in the same room together, let alone, play music. I'm watching out of nostalgia. Don's voice has been gone for a long time. George sounds as good as ever. Never met Don but have met George on two separate occasions. Both times he was friendly, seemed genuinely grateful for the fans and was up for a photo and conversation. Great band. Part of the soundtrack of my high school years. Thanks for this video!
I just want to say from the first 10 seconds of the video it made me so happy to see Don & George together!
George still rips.
Yeah, he's been keeping his chops up. Someone of his skill level can lose it if not properly maintained.
None of us will live forever. These guys wrote some killer songs. Props to them for still putting on a show, even if its not these same show it once was. George is freaking killing it.
George Lynch still plays incredibly well. Don is really having a tough time.
Me and my buddy used to try to play Lynxh riffs when we were teens. What a amazing rhythm and lead player. He's still amazing!
George still slayin it!!👊🏻😝🤘🏻
Don's been at it since the mid 70s His heart and mind are in it. It's just a fact everyone does it. You just need to hear the song like most 65 year Olds sing them tuned down a little bit. Once you accept that you enjoy the great Don Dokken the songwriting legend on stage it's a rare opportunity today.
Ooof. I’ll just say, “Under Lock and Key” is one of my top ten favorite hard rock albums.
George's chops are still impressive 👍 being a realist I don't expect this to sound like 1980's so I give y'all credit for still performing 🙏🙏🙏
Awesome to see these guys on stage playing together again. Dokken one of the best rock bands to come out of the 80's. Man can George Lynch still play like he was in his 20's. Keep rocking guys cause age is just a number 🎤🎸🤘.
Great rock Music since back in the 80s ...🤘
the best!!! good for don and george!!
Lynch still playing outstanding and honesty looking fit enough to bang a 20'something out there. Respect man!
Still love George's sound!
At one point during Tooth and Nail... the bass player and drummer are looking at each other smiling, and like.... damn look at that old guy. That mfr is one bad ass guitarist. LOL Made me smile too.
If you don't like Don's voice, don't go to his concert! It's that simple! You idiots who keep bashing him cannot call yourselves true Dokken fans! Step off! He's got more BALLS than all of you combined for getting up there and singing, knowing his better days are behind him, but that's a fact of life. Ain't any of us getting any younger or voices getting any higher. Appreciate what they've done as a band, and the fact they still tour. I still love these guys! Thanks for the memories and the new music! Keep Rockin' with Dokken! 🤘🤘
George Lynch!!....🤟🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Back for the attack was my very first cassette tape - always loved the sound of Dokken
I love Don. If anyone deserves a little help with backing vocals from his older concerts it would be him. I wouldn't mind a bit. George is a beast. Kills it every time!
I agree. Lol if Kiss can do it... 😄
I truly marvel how George always adds new takes to his originals. He has a creative flair which he consistently evolves and tweaks with new twists and bites into these classic tracks. He was always my personal favorite and remains so today.
Man that dude can make a guitar sound so cool! More please!
Lynch still has got the chops and man - the guitar sound !!
That one has to go to twelve.. Sounds fantastic.👏👏👏👏👏🥳👍
Pure ❤ for this, thanks for the post.
Don is the Best !!!!
Abrazo grande desde Buenos Aires Argentina 👍♥️🇦🇷🇺🇲🇦🇷🇺🇲🇦🇷
Killer tones! Wonder if Lynch is plugged into those Marshalls, or maybe a mini Soldano somewhere back stage?
I am glad I saw Dokken open for Aerosmith...
In the late 1980s.
Yes! Me, too! The Summit, Houston, Texas!
George looks fantastic!
Respect here 💯..thanks for putting this out here. I'm not young anymore either...but i'm still playing hard rock. They will bury me dead in the ground playin it 💯
The biggest reason I picked up the guitar.I heard IN MY DREAMS and it was a total WHO THE HELL IS THAT?I was 14 and the journey began.I could talk for hours of why he is still my favorite in the Metal /Hard Rock genre. My hero will always be a guitarist named George Lynch aka- MR SCARY,and I'm quite happy to say that.
George is one of a kind!
George Lynch was a monster hard rock/metal guitarist 4 decades ago, and it's awesome to see that he is still performing without any perceived degradation in his talent to absolutely shred that old tiger striped Charvel even now that he is nearly 70yrs old!
DAYUM It brought back some pretty AWESOME memories of Hollywood in the 80s. Don you're still lookin and sounding good bro. George you still got the sound and looks as well..
GUITAR GOD. GEORGE LYNCH
such a bad ass lead guitarist
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Love it
Can't imagine, George is 70 y.o., and yet he's burning like a flame. What a bite and barky tone he has here. Of course, there were highs and lows in Lynch's discography, but it's natural cause we all are human beings. Huge, just huge props to Mr.Scary. Stay healthy!
To me, seeing any of the groups I grew up listening to with the original line-up is SOLID GOLD!
Awesome!!! Lynch is best with his Dokken songs. Still got it George!!!
Great duo. Great band.
I love Dokken. This was hard to watch. Respect to Don.
When all the greats are gone from the 70's & 80's, there will be no more music on the planet even worth listening to.
nice to see Don back on stage, sadly, not sure how many shows he will do this year, but good luck Don!!!
I still have my old lee jacket today with a Dokken Patch on it with all the rest of other metal patch bands Judas Priest /Motorhead /Pantera/Venom /Ozzy/ and others .. Feel bad for Don Dokken needs to retire gave us great music years ago still listen to the old music until I die! 🤘💀
I think they sound pretty good. Glad to see em.
I was there....phenomenal night
For sure!
Yes George is killing it❤✌️🇺🇲🇬🇧George you need to get a hold of me!! I do all your stuff real well!! My vocals are superior to most..contact me💪
Don did a great job looking the part & carrying us through the song. It's a miracle he was even able to do that, all things considered.
Exactly. Don will be 70 years old in June. It's hard to scream for 40 years, living a life of decadence (smoking and drinking) and be expected to sound the same. For guitar players like George, it's easy to keep things as they were 40 years ago where people would like them to remain for their utopian expectations (as if people weren't allowed to age), because it's the instrument making the sound. But for vocalists, their voice IS the instrument and vocal cords wear out much sooner than electric guitars do.
In 2012, Don had overcome stomach cancer, radiation treatments and vocal-cord surgery, and had lasting physical health limitations. Then he had to have neck and spinal surgery in early November 2019. There were some complications; Don's right arm and hand were partially paralyzed as well as overall weakness in his body.
It's a wonder that he can perform at all. He's doing his best for his fans. I appreciate him for what he has left.
Sounds just like the album !! 😂
Love the memories of the 80s with Dokken, there just comes a time where it’s okay to put it to bed and move on. Let people keep those older memories of when these songs were played at high level. George is still shredding, but yeah…
I just saw George Friday night, he was so loud you couldn’t here anything else 🤣. I’m uploading my videos right now
George is sooo under rated, he is sooo amazing on his guitar scales. it's crazy!
When has he ever been underrated?
I agree ,nothing negative to say about Don here ,it's hard to hear what they truly are sounding like through this recording, and I must say that after almost forty years ,it's fricken awesome to hear ,and see them playing together!!
great video.!saw the show next day in MN.
Very cool!
Don Dokken coming back from a failed Back Surgery that has an effect on breathing and a lot of motor skills, I applaud him for getting up there giving it his all!! If you don’t like it don’t listen!!
He had his day, but it's time for Don to just walk away...no pun intended
