Hiking 230km Solo in Australia - Larapinta Trail
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 жов 2024
- In August 2021 I solo hiked the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory over 13 days. The hiking trail runs from Alice Springs to Redbank Gorge and is 230km in distance. Most people take 11-15 days to complete the trail and it is often considered one of the best hiking trails in the world.

Josh - watching your video was a very special, nostalgic and emotional time for me. Your cinematography and production are outstanding, ability to captivate and tell a story without dialogue - wonderful. Thank you so much mate. Having been born in Alice and grown up on settlements not far from there, I did have a lump in my throat as I rememberd the many times my mum and dad would take me and my sister to those beautiful locations. Now mum and dad are in their later years and will probably never return. Perhaps I'll do something of a pilgrimage and walk Larapinta as you have done and bring them there in spirit. In any case - big thanks for the huge effort you've put into this stunning piece. Cheers from Sydney - Dave
This is some of the best cinematography, editing and vision of the Larapinta Trail ever created. What an absolute stunning overload of the senses. BRAVO mate, thanks for sharing this incredible experience.
Mate, I love this video. Felt like I was right there with you (without the hard slog!). I am so inspired now I am making arrangements for in 2 years time.
Your commitment to your production is unparalleled. When I think of how many extra miles you walked to strategically position the camera and catch just the right angles to tell the story, I have the greatest respect. Also love the sound mixing. Great sound track, but just the right volume to allow the back ground noises like the crunching of gravel.
I have also watched your 3 Capes walk.
Loving your channel.
Greatest respect!
Captivating footage mate. Superbly presented the beauty of our country. Huge respect to you. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic video Josh!! Brought back memories of the Larapinta Trail which I completed in June 2021, just before your walk. It was much colder then. I liked it that you didn't give a running commentary and instead chose a gentle piano accompaniment. The walk was such a personal experience and a rare opportunity to enjoy some quiet reflection. Watching your video reminded me of how precious this time was.
Wow.... Just, wow....
So beautiful.
Simple words don't do the landscape justice. So many moments I caught myself gasping. Truly beautiful.
You've inspired me to pursue this new passion I've found, even more.
Cheers Scott. Welcome aboard the hiking train, it’s never ending once you start haha.
Man I can’t tell you how long I have been waiting for a quality video of the LT! You nailed it. It’s work like this that I show my daughter to inspire her to get outdoors.
While the rest of us are in lockdown you’re out there showing what is waiting for everyone when this is all over. You’re doing a service to everyone who is doing it tough right now.
Good on you Josh…keep up the great work mate.
Cheers mate, feeling for you all of you in lockdowns. We’ve definitely been lucky here in the West with limited cases. Plenty more hikes to knock out in the future, hopefully you’ll enjoy those too!
Superb effort Josh. You captured the beauty of the landscape, but also the solitude and peace of the walk.
Cheers John appreciate it!
Thank You for sharing your experience, you certainly took all of us with You. Inspiring and Amazing. Australia is such a beautiful country indeed and you capture it so beautifully❤.
So beautifully produced that was a pleasure to watch.
Stunning mate, in lockdown and this has made my night
Just finished the Larapinta yesterday. You have done an exceptional job of capturing how beautiful it is, albeit you have made some of the hard parts look easy! Amazing work.
Fantastic footage. Almost made me cry at one point. Such a beautiful landscape.
Absolutely amazing visit the himalayan mountains
Hi Josh, I really enjoy your videos. Such a commitment doing the hikes let alone the filming and editing. Just wanted to say thank you for taking the time.
Bloody good compilation Josh. Very impressive. You have a gift. 👍
I’m looking forward to doing this also. Thanks for your beautiful video
Loved it - great achievement ❤
Paysages envoutants filmés avec beaucoup de poésie et accompagnés d'une musique inspirante . Sobriété dans la narration de ce périple ........j'ai l'impression d'y être et envie de découvrir ces lieux . Merci Josh pour le partage .
Oh what beautiful footage this was a pleasure to watch
nice Hiking 230km Solo in Australia ..beautiful scenery
Thank you Josh I really appreciate the non chatty video, with music that is not intrusive, so that we can appreciate what you are sharing with us.
Great film! Beautiful trail. Gotta put that on my bucket list.
Well done, thanks for the visual experience.
Captivating scenery!
Amazing what a drone shows.
Arguably the best Larapinta Trail video ever produced.
Wouldn’t have been the same if it wasn’t for a top tier local lending a hand
i'm 3 1/2mins in and hooked! i appreciate so much your style and this gives me huge Kraig Adams vibes. amazing work both HIKE, filming and experience.
Fantastic video.. your filming is so beautiful.
And it’s like you walked twice as far to set up all the shots so perfectly, what an effort! Much appreciated
Appreciate your efforts for bringing this to us Mr. Josh, muchly appreciated. 🙂
Beautifully shot and edited, appreciate the mammoth effort it takes for you to do this while hiking ✌️
Thanks Dee 🙏
Brilliant footage
Great choice of music and cinematography, beautiful and emotive. Im inspired to do this trail! What an experience, thanks for sharing.
Fantastic video drone footage. Enjoyed it very much. Thank You!
Fantastic Josh.
All the best.
Clive.
🤠
Loved the wine and cheese section. What a payoff!
That was so fantastic. Thank you!
What a masterpiece!
Just watched this. Wow! Mesmerisingly brilliant. Well done. Thank you.
So so inspiring, thank you!
Josh, this is epic. Magnificent landscape, stunning filming and the music gives this video a beautiful meditative quality.
Thanks Angelica! 🙏
Wow man, what a seriously epic trek!
And a wonderful video to go with it :)
I can definitely notice how you're videos have gradually improved over time
Cheers Stephan!
Wow! Just completed some time in Alice and hiked various portions of the Larapinta, but not the entire trail. You captured the true tranquility and essence of the trail superbly. So great to be able to re-visit the trail in this way. Thanks for all the effort it took to capture this in such a natural way.
I know I'm a little late to the party, but mate.... Out of the endless hiking vids on the tube, that was something special...
Loved the sounds
I remember 😃
Absolutely awesome photography…. Wonderful documentation of what the hike
looks like..Thank you so much for this x
Thanks Sharon!
Great place and a beautiful effort SIR! 🙏
Josh, This was an amazing adventure, you had me glued to the screen from the beginning. What a an mazing job you did with the editing, music and drone footage. I felt like I was there following you in your foot steps. Magic! I was waiting for a finishing spiel. I suppose there was nothing more to say after such an amazing adventure. 👍🏽🤗
Cheers Joseph! I was planning to do a spiel but figured the video would probably be over an hour by the time I finished it so figured I’d break it up into two videos… but then I never got around to filming the spiel 😂 I keep tossing up on whether to do a Larapinta How to Guide but who knows. My UA-cam plans are all over the place at the moment!
@@JoshCarrHikes keep up the great work. You attract a huge audience.
Absolutely beautiful👍👍👍an interesting and stunning looking place, thanks for the videos😄,best regards Up'n'Down-Traveling
Awesome! Loved watching this
This is a stunningly beautiful video and I love the nature sounds but also the lovely music as well. I so enjoyed it, Thankyou!
Intro gave me goosebumps mate! Great vid.
Bravo Josh, the aerial views are fantastic. Many thanks from France
WOW!!! Best video of the Larapinta I've seen. It will be my go-to film when trying to explain to family and friends what the hike was like. I hiked it solo in June from west to east in 14 days and my photos don't do it justice. Your video does! Thank you.
Awesome effort! Found the same with my photos, hard to get a sense of scale of the place in a 2d image. Cheers for watching 😊
wow what a video, defiantly worth the wait to see this video
keep it up mate 👍👍
Wow jealous man - what an unreal time to do it. Quietest it will ever be
Very fortunate for some and unfortunate for others. Super glad I managed to knock it out when I did
Hi Josh. I finally caught up with your larapinta drone video. A beautiful meditation, made very special by the very limited human voice content, including your own (meditative) restraint. I met you on the trail l think on my 3rd or 4th traverse of the great Larapinta trail. Thanks for leaving a reminder of , primarily, the landscape but , secondly, those who walk through it, a humbling experience. Travel well, trusting your well, gratitude, Gregory Norman Beeswax lantern
Having done the trail a few years ago, all be it in the other direction, your drone shots gave a whole new perspective. Good work.
Thanks Grahame!
Great video Josh!..thanks for sharing this beautiful part if Australia with us. Cheers mate! 👍
absolutetly beautiful
Beautiful capture of such an incredible journey. Thank you for taking the time and sharing it so we can be inspired too! Really appreciate the break down of all your gear also. Well done on your epic adventure :)
A drone gives amazing perspective
Great vid Josh. Wife and I did the trail 4 years ago and what an experience that walk is. Done a few walks in Oz and NZ but I don’t know what it is about the Larapinta. That country just ingrains in you and we both will never forget it. I know it has become very popular and having the C19 around would have made it quieter I guess. We took 22 days which included 3 rest days and for the first 6 days didn’t see a soul. Did Sonder on sunrise after walking in the dark for the 8km and having the mountain to ourselves. Again congratulations on vid, luv the drone footage.
This year was shaping up to be by far one of the busiest had it not been for covid. Speaking to the food drop provider I went through and on a normal year they’d cater for ~700 people whereas this year they were expecting 1500+. Fortunately it was very quiet when I did it due to the lockdowns in vic and nsw but a bugger for those that couldn’t make it. 22 days would have been incredible. Really could have soaked it up with that time! Cheers Andrew 👍
Awesome vid, Larapinta is on my bucket list and you just reminded me why it's there, must get my trip planned!
Superb storytelling with the cameras. Capturing the vastness down to insect detail. Inspiring Josh!
One of your best mate.
That landscape is amazing and your videography skills are unreal.
You keep showing me places ,I had no idea even existed 👌
Thanks mate. Plenty more places to see, it’s just a matter of finding the time to get there 😅
Mate that red wine and cheese looked mint
Stunning!
Josh, this is brilliant. Can’t imagine the work involved but the result is just fabulous. So inspiring…
Wasn't sold on Larapinta til I saw this video. Definitely doing it next year.
You’ll love it, not sure whether there’s many trails in Aus that can top this one!
Beautifully shot. The shiraz was also a nice touch 😂
Josh.. Mate.. Beautiful video man 🤙 I didn't think I could enjoy watching a man walking around as much as I did in this video. Keep up the great work my dude 👍
Hey Josh, mate, that’s a great advertisement for anyone wanting to do this walk! Will be adding this to the bucket list. Quality work on the video.
Hi Josh. Wow.. I was blown away by your footage and more importantly inspired. I decided about two months ago to start hiking. I have done few day walks and building up to an overnight and then a multi day. Living in Melbourne is not helping my goal. So i found you and have been watching your vids. The music you used in this one goes so well.. peaceful. Keep going mate. Well done on the finish. Take care.
Cheers Paul, exciting times ahead for you and welcome to slippery slope of hiking. The wallet will start hurting in no time 😅
Amazing! Thanks for sharing, it's very inspiring and relaxing to watch. Great work on filming and hiking!!!
Spectacular - one of your best - very well editing !
very peaceful videos you make.
Thank you.
Researching the Larapinta Trail to sketch out an itinerary and this is the best , most helpful and most beautiful of all the vids I have watched . Absolutely incredible job Josh . Top shelf . World class . Congrats and thank you . All the best .
Cheers Greg! If I could add one thing - The only thing I would really change about my hike was if I camped along Razorback Ridge as opposed to Fringe Lily Creek. Counts Point, Brinkley Bluff, Hermits Hideaway and Hilltop View are all must camps in my opinion. Nothing better than waking up to the stunning backdrop of the West Mac’s. Enjoy your hike!
You have fantastic video skills and I appreciate the effort that went into making this video.👌👏
Thank you so much Ken, you have totally captured the experience for me. I love your down to earth commentary and great photography. It was such a privilege to walk the Larapinta Trail and I am glad we crossed paths at the end. Caroline/Jennie
Mesmerising, we watch on a large screen, and the quality of filming would have to be the best thing I have ever watched on youtube. Thanks Josh for your amazing effort
Cheers Andrew, much appreciated
Absolutely loved this video. Such great production values, especially for someone doing a solo walk. Drone footage was stunning, and your editing and music/sound was brilliant. Inspirational for those who want to try the walk, and amazing for everyone else who will never get there, as your video is the next best thing. Really liked the absence of a commentary, gave it a really nice feel, and allows the viewer to just immerse themselves in the experience. My only suggestion would be to have small size text in the corner indicating the location in some parts, just to keep my bearings. Looking forward to seeing your future videos. Thankyou.
Thanks Malcolm, really appreciate the feedback. I did add optional text on my Overland Track hike which most people seemed to respond positively to so I might do the same with this one. That could be a while though, I have a tendency to say these things and not follow through with them 😂
Thanks for putting this together, very well shot and edited. Heading up there in three months to do the walk ourselves, your video gives us an insight into what we can expect. Thanks.
Glad to hear Steve, hope you enjoy!
watching this i think id seriously consider takin a small umbrella with me! beautifully shot as always josh, well done.
Such a great job 👏
I've been away from wilderness/camping/hiking watching here on youtube for a while now, and suddenly felt the urge to get a fix. Your channel was one of the first I sought, and as always it was a cracking good one.
I really like what you are doing with these videos. There are so few others that do what you do, making videos with no talking, just walking through this beautiful landscape, with those lovely aerial shots accompanied by some excellent music. It is pure art, and very relaxing.
I hope you keep it up.
Appreciate the kind words! I enjoy watching other channels that follow a similar format for that exact reason too. I’ll be doing this for many years to come 😊
Great video. you really captured the essence of the trail.
Well done mate, congratulations on such a great video. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Just WOW
Inspirational, beautiful, professionally edited. Congratulations 🥾⛺🏞🇦🇺
This is seriously underrated so beautiful
Mate - you are truly a living legend. I love the idea around the 23rd min mark ❤️. I’m heading there in July as the borders finally opening for all. This video is remarkable in every way that I need to watch it again. Sydneysider here.
I ummed & ahhed about bringing that wine for so bloody long, but I reckon it was one of the best decisions I made. My only regret was not packing more bottles 😂 Hope you have a ripper of a time, let me know how you go with it!!
Hej Josh, thank you so much for sharing your Larapinta Trail adventure with us. It is an unique experience to walk the trail - to be part of that unbelieveable nature. That experience i´m sure will make something for ever in you. Something really good - not to buy but to get with your senses and open mind. very well done, cheers mate
Thanks Guenter. You’re certainly not wrong, the trail and memories will stay with me forever. Probably one of the most rewarding things I’ve done
12:17 🤩 just a beautiful spot. You did such a great job of capturing it.
My man! The editing, sound and zero jump cuts made this really special. Planning the LT for next year I’ll be smashing those affiliate links when I’m ready to buy some more gear 👍
Beautiful place..nice video, thanks my friend for sharing
Mate - I wonder what all that solitude is like. I'm really considering doing this - either alone, with my wife or the whole tribe. Perhaps I'll have to find out for myself. Again - absolutely stunning. We think you must be a pro cinematographer. Cheers and thanks - Dave
The best capture of what it feels to be out there bloke, NT tourisn should snavel this one up 🙏😊 well done bloke👌
Cheers Jason!
Really love those great shots and filming.
Brilliant video. Stunning footage. You seem to capture the 'peacefulness' you experience while hiking. 😊
