  • The last track day of the year in the mx5 before the snow, ice and salt hits!
So happy to be finally getting some solid reliability and use out of it after such a long build process.
205 r888rs, 220hp and 1030kg... for those specs I think it goes so damn well and such a joy to pedal!
Now for some winter days in the Cayman while I sort out some minor issues with the mx5 over winter.

Not sure if you will see this, but where did you get the cage from and what do you do for seats for helmet clearance/headroom? Do you know if a cage like this is suitable for a race car? It seems all the race series in the UK for MX5s seem to run no roof and a big cage out the top of the car, but the MR2 championship runs Mk3 MR2s with hardtops just fine, plus I see spec miata runs hardtops across the pond.
Love your cars, love the channel, and I'd love to get a full cage in my MX5 just like yours at some point! All the best :)

Thanks for the kind words bud! It's a real headache trying to find a solution isnt it! That one is a custom cages one that fits over a hardtop but truth be told I think it's far too close to your head. We angle grind the humps out of all our MX5s and directly mount the seat through the floor like you would on a kit car. You can buy lowered floor pans too to help get some extra head room which I had planned to do. I think the best bet is to be short ahha...

Is that exhaust knocking against the subframe on right hand bends? I’ve had this, kind of sounds like a bad diff.

Bang on! Silly 3 inch system means it gets a bit intimate with the chassis on those right turns hah! Have tried a lot of different fixes but always comes back! Ahh well... all character haha!

@@CIRCUITDRIVERCARS I used exhaust wrap as a temporary solution but that didn’t last long.

Looks much flatter on the new suspension, nicely driven. You were well on for a sub 2 minute lap on that last lap of the video. Very impressive given the passenger and damp track. You'll do some real damage in it next summer.

Thanks dude! Been a long old road but finally feeling good about it for the future. The clubrace coilovers have been such a big improvement and I am finally able to drive it how I like. Do think the wider large offset wheels take away some of its lovely feel but no doubt it’s got ability now. Shocked how much so given the power/weight/tyre size. Loving the mr2 vids as always pal, serious ability in both you and the car!

You look so much more comfortable with the car now (that's the magic of Meisters!). Lovely bit of winter cold weather driving and the car doesn't seem too twitchy either.
Is that some boost creep in 4th/5th at 6K+? Maybe with the colder ambient temps the denser air means you're making more boost and it cutting? Could try raising the boost pressure cut off by 1 or 2psi.

Cheers Phil! Ahhh yes glad you spotted that! I’ve been wondering what it could be! Very strange! Boost is set at 12psi which is pretty high imho, It could do with being lowered to 10 and then have the safety cut off higher like you say. I wouldn’t trust raising it as it is with the vvt engine spindly rods haha! One to datalog and look into no doubt! Thanks for the heads up on that! Anything else you think it might be??

It wouldn't hurt to look at the wastegate outlet and see if it could be ported/widened. You could then eliminate any boost creep due to the exhaust gases not being allowed to flow out at higher revs/pressure. I'm similarly running about 12psi and I get some boost creep when the weather is cool as the engine makes a little more power and my turbo wastegate port is known to be small'ish on the TD04.
You need to roll those rear arches too - or is it the 215 sized tyres 🤣?
Also I found that having a very free flowing exhaust was when I noticed boost creep (as the wastegate outlet is not so efficient/attractive to exhaust gases - especially if your turbo is not at it's limit and therefore not such a huge restriction).

@@philjones5728 Thanks Phil, all sounds like great advice. I know the basics of turbo shiz but I've never really had to delve that deeply as the last one I built just worked faultlessly haha! Arches all rolled with a slight pull too! The noise you hear is the damn 3inch exhaust rubbing on the chassis lol! Makes sense too with boost creep as the exhaust is incredibly free flowing. Thanks again for the headsup! Makes loads more sense now!
