This a problem of embouchure. I play baroque music in a wooden alto recorder. This is instrument has the easiest embouchure of all woodwind instrument but you need to master breathing. My teacher always said to me "Pay attention to tuning because every note goes for it own. Recorder is not a tempered instrument like hapsichord. You have to manage breathe pression in order to get the right tuning." Recently, I bought a xaphoon and is not been easy to master the embouchure. By now, I am not worry about notes, scales, songs. I am addicted to understand the xaphoon's embouchure. I detache the mouthpiece and work trying to make stable sounds for a low, middle, or high sounds. My goal is to make a long and stable sound without go up or down. Not real notes but just sounds.
