I love the sound of the M sets when there arriving and departing
Ikr
most underrated train on the network for sure
@@nathandunnn yup, the M-sets are my favourite train
HAHA I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT
M sets are one of my favourite trains on the Sydney rail network
As someone who catches one almost every day, this just highlights all the problems I have to go through all the time 🤣
Love your vids, you always have something to entertain me on a dull day 🙏
M sets really do need an upgrade, I love the aesthetic of the train but just hate to know that it also provides the most inconvenience. Used to be my favourite train until I ran into these problems when I rode on them, now the Oscar H sets are my favourite.
2:59 That's what I'm also hoping for the M sets! M sets really should get a technology upgrade alongside the Hunters. It has been implemented on Waratah Series 2 B sets and a few Oscar H sets, so why not the M sets & Hunters too?
The hunter set J2 has screen upgrades.
@@TheONCEKnownGamer_Train-nerd How?
@@AlisRobloxTrainsAdventure the screen was the same as the new Waratahs (b) and d sets
This is another excellent presentation. The earliest nickname for the Msets was the "mylemon" train. The Millennium bug sets is a later nickname.
Thanks for watching John! Yes, I am aware of that name, I decided to not mention it as I know of several hundred sayings about the m sets with 'lemon' in them haha. 😂
@Aussie John, guess I’ll have to make a video getting an m set holding a lemon
@@MsetFox We can't blame the Msets for the government's incompetence.
No joke, once at Blacktown I was on a M set, broke down on the platform, had to have the guard I presume close the door’s automatically
My bad, the guard had to close the doors with a key. Each door with a key…
First few times I rode on the M set, the creepy sound of the motor scared the shit out of me lol🤣🤣
I remember I was on the T2 line riding a train to the city, and the M set broke down at Granville
The M sets are still so much better than the Waratah A sets from a rail enthusiast standpoint.
That is fairly true - M sets definitely take the lead for general comfort and just that it adds variety to the train. Of course, Waratahs would be better than M sets in its actual reliability.
I agree M sets are way better than the waratahs
The M sets can't be more troubled than the D sets which have been sidelined for 5 years and counting.
Based on the timelines, Windows NT 4 would be the likely OS as released in 1996, through to Windows 2000 in 1999. Then came Windows XP, crappy Vista and Windows 7. This is ignoring the consumer Win 95, 98, ME. Cheers
Very interesting, thanks for letting me know! :)
The TOS (train operating system) runs on windows NT, originally the French edition, but later English edition. This is because Austrom was the provider. The cctv runs on XP as it was retro fitted in the mid 2010’s and Cityrail / Sydney Trains had a licence with Microsoft for XP for all computers at that stage.
The main reason for not upgrading is as they are standalone units and have had most bugs sorted, and with little reason to upgrade as that would require hardware upgrades and solving software conflicting with a new OS.
Similar reason why the Tangara’s are still running DOS, as it’s just not viable to upgrade.
Nice informative video, Elliot! And congrats on 6k
CONGRATULATIONS FOR 6K SUBSCRIBERS
Great video! So close to 6k☺️ I've never been on one of these trains as I rarely get to go to Sydney, but I have seen a couple. My sister said that she went on a "hexagon train" last week, but didn't say much else about it. Hopefully in the upcoming holidays I can go catch one.
One more comment on trains still using Windows 7 - you'd be surprised how many back end systems still use old OSs. They operate on isolated VPNs with no 'internet' connection. There's still a massive supply industry for industrial controller PCs. All manner of stuff. A simple one is the advertising displays at bus stops or even the signals at rail and Metro stations. Cathode Ray Dude had a series called "little guys" on this tech. Cheers
You think all trains would run on the same power inputs instead of drawing to much power, who dseigned them to run that way?
Yeah with newer technology comes more power draw. The whole reason T4 is stuck with only T sets and a handful of H sets is due to insufficient power supply.
I like the M sets, I was born in 94 so M sets were the fancy modern train when I was growing up, Sure they have reliability issues but I still think they were an improvement over the Tangaras. They are like the middle child of our train network, Not as famous as their older Tangara sibling and they aren't the new kid on the block that is now the Waratahs.
Millenlemon 🍋
The biggest problem with them in my opinion is that the dva doesn’t announce the next station until close to the next stop, and the info screens are always either displaying ‘welcome aboard’ for the entire trip or it glitches and gets stuck on a station and displays the wrong one.
Why is there such a big gap between the train and platform and no gap filler?
Millenium train coming into service 2002 is the same idea as millenium line vancouver starting in 2003
doors closing, doors closing, doors closing, doors closing, doors closing,
This happend one time, the announcements were saying doors cloing the whole journey, was only going from central to circular quay
Btw: that guy is definitely a younger Chris Minns
I was actually trying to find a video clip of that since I saw it before haha.
I always assumed the M-sets were running on MS-DOS - the PID fonts definitely resemble the old IBM/DOS fonts
I was getting on a Waratah at Artamon and the rear three doors closed immediately after opening.🤦♂
If they refurbish the m sets let’s hope they actually choose a manufacturer with experience refurbishing trains.
Hey Tsets, I was wondering what time group you are in for the Crows Nest Metro station open day if ur going. If you can, Do you think we might be able collab on that day?
EDIT: sorry I forgot about your guideline to stay on topic
My guess would be once the new T6 line commences, they would only use the M sets on this line since its a short line
You might be right there. There’s definitely a possibility. H sets could even run on the line when they are converted to suburban as well.
Wow nice video
H set door have a loud bang noise when the door closes
WE GETTING STUCK ON THE LEPPINGTON LINE WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Also they should extend the T4 line so that it reaches Bondi Beach or extend the Randwick light rail line so that it reaches Coogee Beach
Some sources suggested they used Windows 3.1 according to some forum post for Sydney. Either that or some 9X or XP OS.
True the M sets aren't the best, but at least their not those "D sets". 3 years testing and not a single one has entered service yet
tbh i never knew about these problems at all
I would love you to do your fave the tset
- The entry to service delays aren't especially absurd. It should be considered that the Waratah's were 2-3 years late, and now the D sets are 4 or 5 years late. You can't simply say that they are crap because of that. Teething problems are also to be expected to some degree, although the M sets did have it worse than some other train types.
- Say what you want about the computer software, but the Tangaras are gonna be worse.
- The "power supply" argument is slightly irrelevant as to my understanding the Waratahs have similar problems with power use, hence why they aren't ever used on the T4.
Incorrect on a few points there - you somehow forgot to mention on how I spoke of the trains actually being withdrawn after entering service following several issues.
Also wrong on the Waratah on the T4 part as they have ran on the line many times before, primarily during industrial action (this includes M sets too), not to mention that a B set was spotted testing on the ESR a few years back.
To me, I find most of your points misleading..?
@@tsetstransport Sorry, I should have clarified. M sets, as well as B and A sets, have run on the T4, There was one particular day (I think in 2022) where a majority of Hurstville services were M sets. So you can say all 3 types have only run very occasionally on the T4 and only as far as Hurstville, occasionally further in testing (eg. the Waratahs being at MMC for a very short time in 2013, and a couple of M set runs (not in service) which i believe were in 2016). M sets did do a few timetabled runs on the T4 around 2007-2010 ish from what I have heard. Still the power supply issues do apply to all 3 trains, and normally when they have made trips on the T4 it is a limited percentage of services relative to the usual Tangaras.
You are right about the withdrawals, but I would hesitate to say that teething problems impact trains success or failure throughout their full service lives. There performance later on (below average but definitely could be worse) is a better indicator.
Stand clear doors closing Warahtah Trains design was based on M set
T set (I think) and H sets also
Nope T set was based on the C set H set was based on M set
With the software they were running, I'm gonna guess either Windows 2000, or Windows XP
on the point of these running Windows 7, i've heard busses down here in Melbourne make Windows 3.1 sounds, idk just something interesting.
Millenium and V set are my fav.
They're likely running 32bit CPUs, and therefore couldn't upgrade to Windows 11. Windows 10 is going EOL in 2025, so there wouldn't be a massive advantage to upgrading.
msetfox is gonna cry (m set fox if you see this im so sorry)
Lmao
@@MsetFox your gonna force me to eat spire lasagna push me off the elavator shaft and lock me out of my own house.. right?
They should be called the Y2K trains. Just cause they're so buggy and problematic like Y2K could have been.
Doors not opening? Brisbanes NGR trains had similar problems when they entered service. First the doors wouldn't open when at the station, yet for some reason they opened whilst the train was moving at speed. 🤔
You want beef
