To see you working with drainage problems is dreadful. Having had such problems with floods and drying out procedures has made me so nervous about house ownership. The way you face up to these difficulties and put in the work hard to resolve them shows your remarkable strength of character and unfailing resolve. I salute you.❤

Little by little, your property is settling into its new life as your home with each additional completed project. Seeing your work on the garden and orchard, I have no doubt that in time, that courtyard will be truly beautiful. And for now, being functional and flat is good enough. 😊

To get the cable through the pipe you can tie a plastic bag to a string line and tape a vacuum cleaner hose to the other end of the pipe and it sucks the bag and string through the pipe. Then you can tie the wire to the string and pull it through , been doing it this way for years with no problems 👍Merry Christmas and happy new year, cheers 🍻🍻

@DeHoeveOldBelgianFarm be grateful puddie only walked on the concrete, I had a cat who deemed it in his best interests to dig a hole in a freshly laid slab and deposit a number 2 job then bury it - Grrrr. Get a gutter on the lean to connected to the building . Loads of water would be running off it and exacerbating the water issue in the cellar. Happy Xmas and looking forward to what 2024 will bring with your page. Cheers from Australia.

  • @stevejohnstonbaugh9171
    @stevejohnstonbaugh9171 5 місяців тому +1

I suggest that you are going to have to install a sump pit with an automatic pump below the level of your basement slab. You will have to cut out a square of concrete and dig down maybe 3 or 4 feet. Line the pit with an open brick pattern so the ground water can seep through into the pit. Ultimately, you may need to install a french drain around the entire perimeter of the basement that drains into this pit.
Second, you have to find a low spot far away from the basement where you can pump the rainwater. Dig a small pond in the wildflower meadow.
I suspect that the old rainwater cistern/system is leaking back into the basement.

Don’t forget to reasonably accurately mark on the site plan where you nave laid the pipes.
In several years you or someone else needing to work in that area may benefit from knowing how to avoid the pipes.
The pipes don’t appear to be too much under the current ground level and even a shallow dig in the future might burst/break the pipe and you have a lot of repair work to do again.

The amount of rain over the last couple of months has just been horrendous, I'm also struggling with water in my basement because not all the drainage is finished yet, so it's good you got it solved. Keep us up if your basement is getting less wet now.
The flexible pipe for the power lead to the pump does not only look a bit ugly as you mentioned, but there is a more important problem.
It forms an open connection between your drainage well and the bake house, so smells and possibly hazardous gasses can come in the bake house this way.
I would suggest to remove the part of the pipe above ground level and put an end cap on with a small hole for your cable, and then fit a piece of electrical conduit on the wall to protect the cable.
For this you maybe have to remove the plug from the cable to get it trough the small hole and conduit, but you can fit a new plug afterwards. That way it will look a lot nicer and you don't get foul smells indoors.

You are working so hard, thank you so much for your videos and I wish you all a successful and healthy new year!
We've had a lot of rain in north-west Germany. Here in my area almost directly on the coast, the drainage systems are coping well, the basements (luckily I haven't rented one and my flat is in the mezzanine!) had to be pumped empty once and no more, but a few kilometres inland the situation is precarious. I went to visit family at Christmas and I've never seen so many flooded reservoirs and overflowing ditches and streets. In my home region just under 70 kilometres to the south-east, all the fire brigades were called out over Christmas and hundreds of volunteers were deployed to reinforce dams, pump out cellars, secure roads, remove fallen trees ... fortunately, the situation is stabilising, at least nature is hopefully happy and can recover from almost five years auf drought.

Hi guys, I have watched your channel for a very long time, maybe from the beginning? I absolutely love your hard work, your dedication to detail, your intelligence of plants . I have lived to a great age of 67. I have had the chance to see many things and I consider myself still youthful! There is though some things that I have learned. When tackling a project the size that you have, one needs to always have a master plan even if it is far reaching. I know you have one but is it orderly?
It seems to me that you are working too hard for temporary solutions and spending time and money that you wish not to do!
Your drainage problem should be first and foremost on your agenda. Every time you change something in your yard the drainage will change. Start by removing ALL your concrete around all buildings. Then look at all the solutions offered by your neighbors to start. Investigate all new methods. Drainage should be first and foremost. I live in Oregon and soils are very different all around the globe. As I understand it, your soil is what I would call spongy ( please correct me if I am wrong). With spongy soil a direct flow of water may never be found as it can change daily. Find your solution for your property first please. Do the project as a "whole" property not in little segments. My apologies if I am way off base. I send nothing but goodness to you!
