Aside from my 2 absolute faves (T-Bone Walker & Lightnin’ Hopkins), Clarence Edwards, Lightnin' Slim and Alabama Slim are the top 3 blues musicians I really love, admire and enjoy. Yes, they are/were all from the deep south and play(ed) the kind of blues derived from Mississippi Delta blues. Unlike Chicago blues, which has been contaminated with rock music and commercialized for white audiences, Southern blues still retains the spirit of the real deal blues.
In early 1950, Lightnin' Slim performed inside a small general store in Lettsworth LA. Watching him was 13-year-old Buddy Guy. It was the very first time that Buddy had seen an electric guitar played.
Saw them with brother seberal times live and with the American Folks and Blues Festival and in Circus Krone in Germany,Lippmann and Rau seems to be the producers and on Atlantoc Label is a record with track Wintertime blues made in the tent of Circus Krone. Such a nice men we never met before and talked with them
Two great performers playing proper deep blues! I loved Whispering Smith's hoarse voice - he released a great album in 1971 called Over Easy, it's worth a listen if you can get it.
Temas: Walkin' Thru The Park & Texas Flood.
There is an Atlantic Record of American Blues Fest. The one you mention is taken in Circus Krone under Supervision of Lippmann und Rau as Org. The LP is never released on CD but you can find it if you need information please ask
It's on CD too (Bellaphon CDLS 42018); track 16 is "Wintertime Blues" ... Track 15 is Jimmy Rogers ("Tricky Woman") and features Whispering Smith but not Lightnin' Slim ...

In loving memory of Mr. Moses Smith (1932 - 1984 R.I.P. // gone but not forgotten).

Nice cover of the Muddy Waters song! I always dug Lightning's voice, and his trade mark, "play your harmonica, son".
That fukin was magical - Lightnin Slim's a hero and it was great to see him on film!
Is this the only film of Lightning Slim? These brilliant unique bluesman are under documented...

Is this the only video of Lightnin' Slim?
Wow, thanks a lot for upload - do you have the whole festival or only this clip?
Can you inform me about more details of that CD such as Rec Comp. The L P was from Atlantic Record Label.
who's the harp man?
I think this is with Bob Brunning's Sunflower Blues Band.
No, the Sunflower Blues Band played many dates with Lightnin' Slim and Whispering Smith but they are not on this video.
