Blijf ik het mooiste nummer van Bruce vinden. Ontroerend nummer. Regelmatig beluister ik dit prachtig nummer. Ik put er alleen moed uit om iemand anders te helpen indien nodig. Groetjes Johan Winters
I first heard this song when I was about 16,I'm 50 this week, and it never GETS OLD listening to this song . Thank you for sharing. it's on his river album if anyone wants to know
+DoC Severn wonderful! Always sticks in my mind, guess I was 14 instead of 15.lol. cuz I heard it and had to have this Album. This happened to my Dad on his way to work one morning, He found him. happen a few year's before the River came out. I love the whole Albums myself. Thank You for your reply.
Rhonda Smith I'm 16 now and it's one of the finest endings to one of the finest albums that just makes you think about what you have, and what you have to lose.
I have a different take on this song. He is the one who had the accident ( and there was nobody there but me) he sees himself from above the wreck and being taken away..and like the movie ghost he is still in her room watching her sleep and climbing into bed to hold her tight thinking about the wreck on the highway. Nobody has to agree, its just my take.
I never thought of it that way. That is very outside the box. This is one of my favorite Springsteen songs. I used to listen to it all the time. Then I started working on the highway, and saw some of this. Still one of my favorites, I still tear up when I hear it. It reminds me of how fragile life is. Some of the lines are harsh, and others are soft and that is the essistence of a wreck on the highway.
I don't view it from that perspective, but I do feel your interpretation does capture that same tone. There's a haunting beauty in the simplicity of a tragic story.
I think basically the same as you! He goes out of the way to mention it’s just him there: “was driving alone”, “on a deserted stretch”, “and there was nobody there but me” Open to interpretation of course, I think intentionally. This is a very deep song like most of Bruce’s songs. They just don’t write em like this anymore.
Oh and “the ambulance took him to Riverside” … the album is The River. For some reason I love that. Lots of songs on this album about being out driving late. I love this album!
In Germany cars on highways (german Autobahn) have to drive on left track, all other cars on right track to form a rescue lane, if you're in traffic jam, maybe if an accident happened. So ambulances are faster to the place of the accident. What are the rules in your countries? Are there any?
My dad died in 1976 on the parkway on his way home by toms river post car fliped on him he died at 41 I so can relate to this song did he see my dad die
