I'm not even all the way through the video yet, but I had to pause to say this video is a prime example of why Jang is the only reviewer I watch on a regular basis. The flow, pacing, and attention to detail are just so excellent! (The set looks really good, too. :) )
He really is the best
Definitely
same. he takes the time he deems is necessary for each part of the set he reviews. a little dry, but i like that. seeing this video hit the home feed was a gift today
Jang is the review GOAT
Jang is my go to for adult non-edgy presentation. He trusts his audience to stay engaged and absorb the info he’s presenting without resorting to gimmicks or attention grabbing editing to “trick” engagement metrics to tick.
This is so rare to find and I respect him greatly for that dedication.
A Jang review is never late, nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to!
03:51
Wise words from Jang:
"One does simply lift it from the tree and place it else where.
13:13 I believe the ship scene depicts Eärendil sailing to Valinor on his ship Vingilotë to beseech the Valar on behalf of the people of Middle Earth to help stop the dark lord Morgoth, and the second is the hidden city of Gondolin, destroyed in the First Age.
This set is beautiful I need it in my life, I am one of the small margin of people haha, but the hefty price necessitates many months of saving up! I’m happy though because if Jang thinks its a good set then my trepidation in buying it has been put to bed for sure.
PS thanks again Jang for your unbiased and detailed reviews, you’re the go-to guy to get the layman’s view on the value of Lego sets.
Let’s take a sec to appreciate Jang’s vocabulary in just the first 60s of this review. It’s such a joy to hear a reviewer who is so thoughtful about their word choice 🎉
As someone not into LOTR, this seems like it would be "worth" $500, but too rich for my blood. Gorgeous set for all the Castle fans and LOTR fans.
I had the privilege of building this model for our LEGO store's display, and it was a marvel from start to finish. Yes, those roof tiles, but it's not half bad if you just stick UA-cam on or listen to music and get lost in it. As a LEGO fan with limited space, time and money, I will never get to build a set anywhere close to this big ever again, so when they asked who wanted to build it I jumped at the opportunity, and I definitely see it as a milestone in my journey with LEGO despite the fact I didn't actually own the set!
Impressive set!I hope there will be more LotR sets in the future, but maybe within more affordable lower or mid price range.Nice review.👍🙂
Yeah relaunching a theme with a single $500 set and saying you'll only make more if that one set does well is a stupid but not surprising way of Lego to do things.
Yeah,That's the Lego way!😁
@@grandmasterkaiju3821 this is not the relaunch of a theme but it is a single collector's item for adult Lego and Lord of the Rings fans. It can be followed by another single collector's items in the next years.
I'm not a huge LOTR fan, and definitely not a fan of super pricey Lego sets - but this set really seemed to hit it out of the park. Looks fantastic, amazing attention to detail and if you're even slightly interested in LOTR it just calls to you. Thanks JANG for the amazing Twitch build streams and review of this!
I hope we get more lord of the rings sets - when the original batch came out back in the day, I was all over it. It fills the space of castle sets with plenty of inventive and exciting scenes. But this one, despite its beauty, seems too far out of my price range, I’m afraid.
I want to live there.
Honestly. This is probably one of the best lego sets ever made along with the millennium falcon and hogwarts. It is just so right. It captures lord of the rings perfectly. I'm sure the designers of this set are very proud
This set has some of the most impressive build techniques that I personally have ever seen especially on the gazebo & main building roofs, the designer should be extremely proud of just how clever & unique their work is
This is the first “fancy black box” set that I bought for myself, even as a huge Star Wars fan I could never stomach the price of the UCS sets. But this one. My two greatest loves; Lego and LotR… I had no choice, it’s such a gorgeous model, and such a detailed and involved build and I don’t regret it for a second.
While I wasn’t too thrilled when it was announced the first official LOTR set we’d be getting after around 9 years since the last Middle-Earth LEGO sets came out was going to be a larger scaled Rivendell, this is a very gorgeous set.
The build is fantastic, the mini-figures are fantastic, and the movie scene references are fantastic. If any expensive D2C LEGO set was worth its price, it’s this set. Now I know $500 is still expensive, but like I said this Rivendell set fits the price; especially compared to that Black Panther bust and that giant Hulkbuster set.
Now, while I would like to save up for this set, there was another D2C LOTR set that was leaked that I am much most interested in. That set being the Barad-Dur set, which is supposed to come with our first proper Sauron mini-figure. The leaks right now are only that the set is in production, and I have heard that the potential release of the Barad-Dur set hinges on the success of the Rivendell set. So if that’s truly going to be the case, I really hope the success of this set meets LEGO’s expectations, that way we can finally get Barad-Dur and Sauron, as well as get a true relaunch of the LOTR line in the future.
Now this, THIS, is the review I've been waiting for on this set! I know you've mentioned your passion not necessarily being the review side of Lego (as opposed to the building side), but man, I loved- LOVED- your detailed and in-depth commentary and insights into this set! Thank you, sir- I think you've really sold me on this set!
I can hear my dad saying,”That’s what I payed for my first car!!”
Amazing review. The only real Lego reviewer worth watching. Loved every bit of it. Thanks for your amazing work Jang.
This and Orthanc are easily my top 2 favorite lego sets of all time
A pure masterwork of Lego design, that's what this set is.
The two pictures on the top half are Gondolin, the elf city where Elrond lived as a child and the boat is Eärendil's ship I believe.
I viewed the kind of tan ground near the forge as a pine needle-covered ground.
$400 makes the most sense when you divide the sections, but $500 is… it makes sense, considering LEGO prices. But I realized after buying this that spending $500 on any plastic toy is kind of insane, and now matter how good it is I’ll always be thinking “This is half of someone’s rent.” Makes me very wary of buying any of the UCS Star Wars stuff.
I do think this set is worth the price, and I would definitely get it if it weren't for the fact that I don't have the space to store or display it. Similar to the Titanic, I think the "space cost" is as significant if not more so than the monetary cost.
Agreed! As an adult Lego fan I can afford this, but would need to dismantle at least 15 smaller items (some are MOC) to find the shelf space!
This is easily one of if not my favorite lego set. It’s so huge and it’s presence on a shelf is fantastic. Every time I have guests over they can’t stop staring at it. It’s expensive for sure, but the build process, the figures, the details, and the enjoyment I’m going to get from looking at it for years and years more than make up for that
This set got me into LOTR. I had no interest in it until I saw this set. I wanted to get it but also wanted to understand what I was buying. So happy I got this set and saw the movies.
One thing I haven't noticed until now is that the elves in the painting of the creation of the rings are using the old elf hair piece, which is weird since they chose not to bring it back for the set
I split the build of this over many nights and re watched the full extended edition of all of the LoTR films at the same time.
One of the best building experiences I've ever had and I paced it to really enjoy the build. Some very very clever techniques.
Personally I'm a LoTR fan and can afford it but I can honestly say zero regrets on this one and it never felt over priced compared to other sets/things.
That bookcase looks sooo much better than the bookstore modular. wow!
pretty cool set, I still prefer the Lion Knight Castle because it has more play features and less strict theming so people could have a bit more creative engagement with the set. But I understand that this set wasn't designed for that, but I do not have the same level of excitement for this as I had for the Lion Knight Castle.
Totally understand the creative play angle, but from a building experience perspective, I enjoyed this WAY more than Lion Knights Castle.
I guess it was a lot of brain and experimental work, to design a castle, that can folded, explored and defended. And both sets have a soul, a real Lego history story and a fictive telling story. Which leads me over to a tough test: Shall I take Gandalf the gray or Gandalf the blue?
I love this channel so much. What an elegant review for a beautiful set. Good job Lego, and good job Jang!
13:15, I think the city is Gondolin. Which is usually depicted as pure white and it was the home of the ancestors of Elrond: Turgon and his daughter Idril. It was the greatest city of the first age. It was surrounded by mountains on all sides, and on the picture those must be mountains, not the sea, because there's clearly a road and a river in front of the city.
Oh and the ship might be what took Elrond's wife, Celebrían to Valinor. My first guess was Eärendil's ship, but that supposed to be pure white so it's most likely not that. I cannot think any single ship that is significant to Elrond, and it might be important that the ship is facing left which probably means it's going west.
theoretically the city could be Tirion in Valinor (also usually depicted as white) but yes Gondolin probably makes more sense
It could represent the ship Elros-Elrond’s brother-took to Numenor. That would have significant meaning.
The city is more likely to be Eregion, as that is where Elrond lived before Rivendell and he was born after Gondolin was destroyed.
I believe it’s Ost-in-Edhil, based on the Alan Lee painting from the film that then didn’t make it into the Final Cut
better than watching Netflix!Well done sir!
(or Amazon for that matter)
This is pretty incredible. I love a lot of the details (we get glow in the dark mushrooms again!). The figures are all really good, though I prefer some of the originals (the first Aragorn can't be beat). I still have the original council of Elrond. But, I'm afraid I can't afford to be skipping rent payments at the moment.
Wonderful review and amazing amount of work you put into it. Thank you. Years ago I would've said no way would I pay $500 for a Lego set, but this may be the one.
This looks just magnificent; it's definitely very expensive and well out of the reach of majority of people, but it makes sense for the size of it, how much stuff is in this and the detailing. I won't go for it personally, not because of the cost (even though that plays a small part) as most of us can all afford this (just a case of are you brave to splash that much on a single Lego set). But it's due to not having the space for this, and not having watched or read anything Lord of the Rings related. But huge respect to the set and another great review!
Looking at the figures and some certain hairpieces, I can already imagine them being used for a Legend of Zelda themed set, if that ever does happen.
I'm building it tomorrow. Invited my friends for a Lego day, we'll be cooking meals from the Middle-earth Cookbook and just having immense fun.
Thank you for reviewing this one, Jang! This is probably the most I will ever get to appreciate this spectacular set. So thank you for giving me at least that. It is so painful seeing just how beautiful this set is along with its build and its minifigs knowing that it is way too expensive and spacious for me to afford. Such a bummer! BUT, I am hopeful that with this release we will get more smaller, affordable sets that will be designed with similar love and detail for the source material. Here’s hoping.
What an amazing lego-set! Glad to see you had such fun making it, and pulling it apart for a review!
Excellent review for a Once in a lifetime exceptional Lego set 😊
Even though I've already built the set, I always enjoy Jang's reviews. 🙂
It’s rare that I stray from Star Wars sets. But this was a must have. It’s absolutely gorgeous
I think the set is actually a good value. You’re getting about $100 worth of minifigures (even more if you account for eBay prices). The build itself is worth at least $100 in hours of entertainment. In the end this is amazing display piece and the only problem I see is in keeping it dusted.
What a magnificent set. It is expensive but I would expect something as special as this to be so. I think the colours are amazing all over the set and no part seems to be disappointing. The minifig selection is brilliant and is something I would love to see replicated on other premium sets. Thanks to Jang for bringing us this review and showing us Rivendell in all its glory.
14:27 The locations shown on the map of middle earth could potentially be a hint at upcoming sets. It depicts Rivendell (which is a set), the tower of bar ad dur (which is supposed to be coming out soon), Nina’s tiring and orthanc. So we could potentially be getting a Minis Tirith soon as well. 🤷♂️
Amazing in-depth review! I really love that you can hear Jang's passion and enthusiasm for lego shine through. Puts a smile on my face!
This was an excellent review! I love how you don’t have a script and how natural your videos flow, thank you for the amazing reviews and keep up the spectacular work
I grew up with Lego LOTR as my fav theme, and I waited ten sad years for the theme to return. Could not be happier with what we got!!!
I'm currently building this set as I watch your review. I'm in the middle of the forging & gazebo part of the build. I did the tower section already. I COMPLETELY agree with you that this is in a top 5 set of all time category. I am loving the building experience and the results are breathtaking.
Well, Jang: thanks for that. I’m not in the market for the build, but I’ve waited 2-3 weeks for this review. I know you built it in twitch (too busy and not my thing), and I was rewarded with a terrific review of a build I’ll never buy. That’s how good your reviews are. Kudos sir! Thanks for being you! All the best!
We NEED something like this for winterfell, the red keep, castle black, etc.
17:30 I personally don't really like a lembas here. The fellowship got the lembas from Galadriel in Lórien. Now there's absolutely no problem with these kind of inaccuracies. More stuff is always welcome. It's a nice addition. My problem is that lembas is kind of a sacred food and very very few people knew the recipe. Galadriel learned it in the first age in Doriath from Melian the maia. Also it was very rarely given to non-elves. So it's thematically doesn't fit in Rivendell just lying around on some table. But with that said, for a movie fan or a casual lotr fan it's a nice addition. I will just remove it from there when I finally get my set.
I agree with you but I'd rather have Lembas in an inaccurate place than no Lembas. That being said it's not hard to make with pieces just lying round.
@@LouisBarnes-mg9xx yeah don't get me wrong, Lego putting it there is a good thing overall. But I personally don't like having lembas there, so I will just remove it. It's one of the main features of lego anyway, to be able to customize it.
I just purchased it today and building it as now. Truly a masterpiece !!!
Amazing review as always Jang. I particulary loved the music you chose to go with the review, it made it feel more magical and immersive.
The sticker of the city is apparently a depiction of Ost-in-edhil, where the rings of power were forged
A real tour de force of a set.
Excellent review loved the background music, proving yet again why you are by far the best Lego reviewer on UA-cam.
The designers really outdid themselves with this one. Personally this is my new favorite set of all time.
“One does simply lift it from the tree…” Jang, you wonderful wonderful man you.
Not a LoTR fan, but never miss a Jang review. Appreciate the attention to detail, as always!
I just got home from a stressful emotional week and not only is there a new Jangbricks review, but it’s the one I was looking forward too.
Thanks Jang. You brighten my day
Great set indeed and more inpressive in real life than any image or video can ever show you.
One little nitpick: the 2nd Sting-sword is also used in the set. It's put on the table in the armory/forge (by the sharpening stone). Out of that bag with specialized weapons (4 elven swords, 4 dwarven axes, 2 Aragorn-swords, 2 Boromir-swords, 2 Stings and 2 shards of Narsil) only the 2nd shard of Narsil is a spare.
I love the brick built sitting position for the minifigs! More sets need to do this.
Your reviews are always great!!! This is yet another great one!!!
Great review! Your lighting was fantastic. I really appreciated your up close shots so that we got a really great view of all the detail in this amazing set. Too expensive for me, but an incredible set.
Dude. Your video editing ability and presentation is one of the best I’ve seen from any UA-camr. Definitely the best Lego UA-camr.
Excellent review! Thanks! I bought it the day it was released, and I haven't even opened the box. I have NO place to display it and I don't want to lose anything. I've been relying on reviews like this to enjoy it! Thank you again!
This set is much larger than I expected! It's such a beautiful set, and even though I'm not a huge LOTR fan, I'll definitely be purchasing it in the future. Thanks for the awesome review, JANG! You're always my go-to reviewer :)
Thank you for making this! I was excited waiting for you to create another well done review!
Usually I wait for Jang's review before buying LEGo sets. But this was just so perfect looking that I ordered the day it was released. And it did not dissapoint. This set is just almost too good to be true. It looks fantastic. Building experince was great with all the clever techniques used. Of course I'm somewhat biased being a LotR fan, but still, wow just wow.
Thank you for once again providing the best LEGO review for this monumental set. You did an even better job selling it to me than the designer video, and yet still honest and objective, so you most certainly helped me feel justified in my purchase. I think this is legitimately the most beautiful LEGO set I have ever seen. Can’t wait to build it myself.
Great review. I adore this set and I think arguably it's the greatest set LEGO have ever produced. Sheer beauty
13:20 a very diplomatic and polite way of addressing this topic 😂
Great review which took the time to explore the set and characters which this set deserves.
Absolutely spectacular set and review! Thanks for all the time you spent on this set and review, well done, truly epic!
I've been waiting for your review! ignored all of the early videos because yours are often the best.
gorgeous display piece, but I'll wait a year or two for hopefully a discount as it is really expensive in Israel (600usd).
This is an amazing set the architecture is beautiful, an absolutely awesome selection of Minifigures and stunning details. I love it, the trees look incredible too.
Thanks for the great review! Hope to save up for this set to get it eventually
Excellent review as always and with balanced context. I couldn't agree more if your a fan of LOTR, a fan of great building techniques, a fan of beautiful Lego sets, then its a must get. Though again if its in your price range, and well worth saving up for as I imagine it will be around for a bit. Also consider where you are going to display as its huge.
I'm a big fan of LOTR, and I would love this set... if I had $500 just lying around. Since I don't, I don't think I'll be able to get this one. I'm not going to pretend like I understand how Lego's pricing works, but most sets are just too expensive right now. It sucks, but I doubt anything can be done about it.
I'm not a regular on this channel, just clicked a suggestion, but this guy's voice is so soothing.
I think the painting at 13:15 is Numenor in its glory days, before it was destroyed
As a huge LotR fan and a huge Lego fan, this set is a dream come true. Just bought it for myself as a birthday present.
Great review as usual. This is one that I love your walk through on because that is as close as I’ll get. Just got the new Castle for a big bday so I can’t ask for anther set of this size lol.
I really hope this is just the beginning of a full lord of the rings theme. I feel like lego wouldnt have made all those new molds just for one set but idk
People from Lego said if this sells well, they'll do more. I'm hoping enough rich people buy this because some of fans love Lord of the Rings but are not willing to spend £400+ on a single set
@@joevictor53 me lol
@@joevictor53 They've got to be joking right? They're setting themselves up for failure releasing a set at this price and using it to measure whether or not the average fan will buy it.
I have this set. Built it. Took me 13.5 hours. I watched the full extended edition set of LOTR and then went back and watched the first disk of the cast commentary for the two towers.
Great review! Thx Jang!
Hey Jang! Just FYI, the name Celebrimbor is actually pronounced Kelebrimbor. The "C" is hard. Awesome review. I got the set since day one, and for me it is the best and most beautiful Lego set I have ever owned!! A true masterpiece of Lego art for a true masterpiece of a book!
Brilliant review. This set is an absolute work of art. Literally every square inch of it is utterly gorgeous.
the trans blue over solid pieces look great! its like looking through a clear river and seeing the stones and riverbed underneath with the studs!
Another wonderful review from Jang! Thank you! I just bought the set from a retailer for $389, couldn't be happier!!! It's going to be my Christmas calendar, building a couple of bags a day leading up to Christmas. With the trilogy running on the TV while I'm building. 😄
thanks for supporting me Jang. I now have the set waiting to get build and im afraid to start it for unknown reason.
Maybe tonight
Thanks again for doing such a thorough video and review. I was never going to get this set so I was counting on this video to be my exposure to it.
I have the set (twice - I bought one extra without the minifigs at half the price for future epansion), but still waited eagerly for Jang's approval 🙂 Great review! Glad to see you as enthousiast as I hoped you would be.
Jang your reviews are just awesome. Iv'e said it before the only complaint is that I go straight out and buy another Lego set. Your description and authenticity shine though. I never feel that your chasing the money but truly believe in the product you review. I really didn't want this set but I'm on mu way out to buy it.
Looks wayy bigger and way more beautiful than I expected from just seeing the box art. Looks incredible.
The set I desire the most and can’t have because it’s too big for my space
Yes, the review I was waiting for, even though have built it myself quite a while ago. But well, it felt like it wasnt finished without Jang's review. Funny to hear it made you wanted to watch the movies again, because I had the same and I did so. Ow 1 little thing: the 2nd sting isnt actually a spare, but belongs in the forgery attached to the clip next to the sharpening stone. At least according the instructions. But since this is lego, you can leave it of if you want to. :)
At the end of the day this is a beautiful set. I’m not a lotr fan I’ve never read the books or watched the movies. But you’re right in saying seeing this set makes me want to read the books and watch the movies. It’s well designed and I think the price reflects that if I’m being honest. Also the sheer volume of the set is insane. It is of course expensive and I probably won’t be able to grab it for that reason as I can not justify dropping $670 on a Lego theme I have no connection too. But I can admire it from afar.
Once again great video Jang, I really appriciate you making all these great reviews 😀, I totally agree with you on this set. For me I think this is one of the best looking LEGO sets I've seen.
Currently saving up for this. It's a gorgeous set and a must-have for a LOTR fan like me imo.
Good evening Jang. Another brilliant video. You are the only lego reviewer i regularly watch because you are the best. I always skip the brake down (to avoid spoilers) and go for you conclusion at the end. I trust you. I may even buy this set.
