This interview showed Red Symonds being cheerful, to a degree but he'd be bawling his eyes out on the inside. Grief never really goes away. I lost my mother 30 years ago but one little thing can trigger me to bawl my eyes out as well. I just keep it private. That's about all anyone can do with grief, keep it to just yourself or your immediate family.

Sorry Neil...i don't agree ,,, nothing is off the table ..a lot of toxic male "stoic " attitude has killed too many people - in many ways . I hear you ...but do not think you get anywhere being locked into a prison of your own making ., Nothing wrong with saying NO - i'm not ok .

He's an impressive man - Red Symons. I feel for the guy. They have been through a lot. And to come out of it all with words like that - well what more can you say about the real character of the man.

This eulogy still makes me cry. I think if my own young precious children and that’s it, I’m out. Red, I can only imagine the pain that you must have endured around the time of your son’s passing. I’d love for my children to be the sort of man your son was. I miss your presence on the radio and hope you are okay.

My heart breaks for you dear Red. I know how broken I've felt since losing my Mum to Parkinsons in 2015 & my Dad to Alzheimers in 2018. The grief endures as do my memories. My son is 32 & my daughter is 29. I can't imagine my life without them. You are so eloquent, graceful, courageous & much stronger than I know I would be & I admire you so much. Sending you my heartfelt condolences. May Samuel rest in peace & be your guiding light. 🙏🙌💙😢💔🌟🌹💙

Red, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Most people don't have to do that on the media. You handled it brilliantly mate. God bless.

Red you have shown courage, love and sincerity to all those around you during the hardest time, a parent saying goodbye to their child must be a horrific thing to go through, you really are a special person. My thoughts are with you.

I still think about how this man must be feeling with the loss of his son. The pain must never go away and be ongoing just like being given a life sentence.

I feel so terrible for Red. There is no greater pain and grief for a parent to experience than to have to bury and mourn your own child. I remember watching Hey Hey It's Saturday and seeing Samuel sit on Red's knee and watch himself in the teleprompter.

I remember bumping into Red in a sushi shop in Lygon St about 15 years ago, and telling him I was big fan. He had his boys with him in their school uniforms. It's sad to discover this news.

That’s a very sad life that this man has to live with at losing his son. I used to take my own son to a park in Carlton many many years ago and Red used to bring his kids there and they used to play with my son who was around the same age as Red’s kids.
