      It seems Duracell ONLY sell batteries for older model cameras where there is no "copy protection".
      I can get a Duracell for my 550D (Rebel T2i) but I can't get a Duracel Battery for my 760D (Rebel T6S).
      No 3rd party batteries can be charged on my 760D Charger and the camera software cannot record their performance and life history - UNLIKE Canon OEM batteries.

    Very interesting video Simon, I have tended to play safe and over the years have stuck with the Camera original batteries. But after watching your video it made me stop and think for a minute as I use a lot of AA rechargeable batteries for accessories etc and over the years I have found the best value and most reliable rechargeable have been Duracell. I will be looking at these new Duracell batteries when they become available in Australia. As usual great job of keeping us informed.

      You're welcome Cliff. I was one click away from buying until they said US only. It's nice to do a tips video for a change among all the news and rumour videos. I hope to do more of these in the future.

      Cliff, try again. I set the locale to AU$ and the site allowed me to view batteries. It appeared to have a different selection than the US site. I created an account and was able to select Canada. But the site is tossing lots of errors. Can't seem to complete the order. One thing I found odd, they limit the password to between 4 and 10 characters - very strange - a red flag there.

    OEM all the way. But Duracell has a good reputation. Special consideration is how accurately remaining charge is reported to camera. R5 will probably chew through batteries, so picking up a pair of Duracells may not be a bad idea if they will make the LP-E6NH.

      I did some more digging. They have 1600 mAh. The lp-e6n is over 1800. But they are reviewed well. I just wish canon would put them on sale once in a while.

    I saw these online somewhere but I wasn't sure about them. I am leaning towards giving them a shot as my 70D is almost as old as yours. My battery still holds up for photos, but pop the flash a few times and not so much....I bought a Refuel by Digi Power (Best buy house brand) LP-E6 replacement for $45.00 and it has been OK, but noticeably shorter life between charges. They say 1600mAh vs. Canon's 1800mAh, which explains why. Duracell might be a good idea! Thanks!

    • @OrdinaryFilmmaker
      @OrdinaryFilmmaker  4 роки тому

      For the 70D, I'd recommend the powered batteries. The link is in the video description. They are cheap and have performed very well over the past year and are rated well. If you were getting the R5, I would suggest Canon.

    I am into photography a few years now and I never bought original batteries, they are just not worth the markup. The third party batteries I have all perform similar to to the originals, but I would recommend to buy them from known replacement battery manufacturers and stay away from the really cheap noname ones. I bought these really cheap ones for my first camera and they lost most of thier capacity after a few charges.

    I mostly take Still Pictures and have used several brands of 3rd party (LP-E6) batteries with my Canon cameras with good results.
    Some brands will give "more shots per charge" and some will "hold a charge longer". But almost all are a bargain at $10 per battery.
    Before retiring I was a electronic tech and my hobbies kept me heavily involved in Li-Poly batteries. I have used high end battery analyzers to test and monitor all my batteries. The ones that work the best for me, at least so far, are: Canon, RAVPower, and PhotoLex. Other brands are okay in the first several months but performance drops after 6 months or so.
    I have a 2017 Canon battery that only gives me about 80% but a 2017 STK that I get 95% from.
    BTW, pay no attention to the rating on Chinese 3rd party batteries. In fact, take with a grain of salt any battery that says it has over 2,100mah!

    I have several different makes of camera and always buy 3rd party batteries, however I always buy an independent charger to use with them. The charger that came with the camera goes back into the box.
    I suspected that manufacturers chargers are designed to detect and under charge a 3rd party cell. Olympus cameras with a 3rd battery moans every time you switch the device on, recommending Olympus batteries.
    To test this out I experimented initially with my Panasonic G9, I charged the original battery measured the voltage and then did the same with the 3rd party cells I had purchased. I cannot remember the exact results as it was two years ago, but there was a notable difference in the final voltage. I then shifted the same battery into the independent charger and charging continued on for at least 30 minutes and the voltage came out at 0.2V over the stated value.(All batteries have a higher than stated value when they are not under load conditions.) I repeated the experiment with Olympus, Pentax and Sony chargers with the same results of under charging. I do however avoid batteries with raised capacity and labels stuck on them, especially gold labels. They have in my experience been recycled OEM used cells. There are plenty of decent independent 3rd party cells, just look at reviews before purchasing and buy them with a 3rd party charger at the same time to gain further savings.

    In my experience, they are a bit hit and miss, I've had one that swelled up and luckily it was not in the camera at the time, it's not gonna work out so cheap if it wrecks your camera!
    The best ones I have had are Neewer and RavPower but despite their stated superior capacity older Canon batteries seem to have a similar performance...
    What I have found far more useful and the reason I bought the aforementioned Neewer and RavPower, is their dual USB LP-E6 charger, so you have truly portable charging solution anywhere you have USB power, even a pocket power bank or car power socket, they were £20-30 each, cheap enough that you can just leave one in your glove compartment, I really considered the batteries as an added bonus.
    Duracell, however, has a historical pedigree, so maybe they will fair better, however, the Duracell AA rechargeables I have used fall some way sort of Eneloops.

    • @Simon-SBL
      @Simon-SBL 4 роки тому

      They are or at least seem to be very expensive, what we don't know is the internal technology and microcircuitry compared to the third-party options, there must be a reason that the OEMs generally have a lower power rating and are more expensive, maybe more protection circuitry and less room for battery chemicals, after all, the camera is a delicate piece of electronics.
      Good and newer tech is expensive, as we're no doubt about to discover with CFE and the latest specification of SD.
      Meanwhile, we can just wander the third party battery minefield.

A company cannot do that in Canada or the us, unless the battery has proven to be the cause of the problem, then it is up to the owner fo the camera to chase down the battery owner.
