    I’ve just started writing last year, but now I want to start learning to mix and master. It just feels really daunting. I know kind of what I want in my head, but idk how to execute any of them lmao
    Thank you for all your vids. Makes the task seem less scary

    I completely agree; no two mixes are the same. There's too many factors in every song that vary.

    i love all these mixing and mastering insights. are you able to maybe make a video about final mastering loudness? every time i upload to spotify, my music tends to be quieter than everyone else's tracks

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  5 місяців тому +1

      I normally just do what sounds good. Most of my masters are about -6 to -7 integrated LUFS. Sometimes really loud ones are -5 and more dynamic tracks are -11. Almost never less than that.

    Hi Austin! Thanks for the super useful video! I just wondered, some months ago you made a video on the landr mastering plugin, do you still happen to use it, or then what are your reasons for not using it? Also I think it would be super cool to make some videos centered on the use of 1 plugin, or 1 effect (reverb, delay, compression…), because for me I feel I have tens of plugins but only know how to use them in a few specific contexts (I feel I use them at 5% of their potential).
    Thanks again!

    Thank you as always Austin!!
    I'm wondering if you think it is possible to ask the artist for the dry multi-tracks for practicing ? i'm CRAVING of trying to mix and master a song like that, with a lot of tracks and elements to practice on it!!
    Thank you if you have the time to ask for it...🙏

    Do a video on getting the Shaboozey vocal sound on A Bar Song (Tipsy). It sounds really fresh and new in that you can tell its smooth and polished like 2024 but it doesn’t sound like a close-mic’d condenser in a dead room. It sounds more … cinematic? Hard to describe.

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  6 місяців тому +1

      Sounds like a LDC but possibly on Omni instead of Cardioid so it's a little more open in the mids and low mids. Could also be a LDC on cardioid but tracked a couple feet back so that proximity effect kicks in making it less full as the vocalist moves off the mix.
      Definitely just sounds like a pretty standard vocal with a small plate aux giving it a little more room. But I definitely hear what you mean about it not sounding super close and full, but still polished and clean.

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  6 місяців тому

      Also it's pretty compressed and relatively low in the verses so it feels super smooth since it's not SLAMMIN on top of the mix.

    Very interesting , thank you, Stupid question :I here a strong clicking noise when the song is playing . I am wondering if it is part of the arrangement but it sounds too random for that (for my taste) . sounds like sampled vinyl record static . Maybe i am oversensitive to this kind of noise but I was chasing a computer problem all day

    What would you change in this process in the case you woulda still need to send it to mastering engineer for the mastering? How much/what kind of "mastering" I need to do before sending the song to master?

    Isn’t focusing only volume and ignoring EQ counter productive? Cause when you’ll get to EQ, you will have to tweak volume again

    • @MakePopMusic
      @MakePopMusic  6 місяців тому +6

      Sometimes you don’t even need as much EQ as you think as long as levels get fixed. I think getting the balance is crucial because you can always adjust gain after EQ. But I see so many people try to really tweak the character of a sound when really they could just turn it up or down a few DB

    I cant help feeling we are moving away from song mixing to simply sound engineering....the actual song quality seems irrelevant...

      It really does matter, imagine he was polishing something that was fundamentally better, the result would be superior. Then you might think it’s only 2% better, but 2% better across multiple audio sources adds up. You can tell if you listen closely.
