I've said before, I thoroughly enjoy your integration of maps during your talk over of route and stops. I sub to many fulltime and traveling RV'rs and hardly anybody presents it like you, Ray. Can't wait for the revue of Salmon Harbor. Safe travels to B.C. !
My wife and I stayed at the Winchester Bay RV Resort about 6 years ago. We were supposed to meet some friends there and do some dirt bike riding in the sand dunes but the friends couldn't make it last, minute emergency. So my wife and I decided to go just ourselves without the dirt bike and just relax and it was nice, did some site seeing. When we were there, the wind was a little crazy during the day off the ocean. We didn't own an RV at the time (and still don't but plan to soon) so we rented from a local RV dealer and they agreed to drop off and pick up the Travel trailer for us in the RV resort spot we had reserved for a reasonable price. It was nice to drive up from Sacramento with my grill in the back of the truck and spend the extended weekend there. Thanks for sharing your travels.
Great video. We are from Alberta and frequent the Oregon Coast with our 5th Wheel, Winchester Bay is an excellent area. Oregon state parks as well are some of he best parks to stay as well. Safe travels!
Wow this is so awesome to see!! U kind of took our routes but you're heading North and we were heading from Stockton, Ca down to Az . We started in Stockton March 28th or so and we went down south and stayed in Gilroy, Ca & Prunedale, Ca . near the Monterey Bay . We stayed in this area for about 2 weeks . and then we headed south and stayed in Bakersfield and Tehachapi for 3 or 4 days . then we went to Needles and stayed there 1 night, then to Ash Fork for another night. And Now we made it to Prescott, Az . It has been so nice ❤❤ i love RVing and seeing all these wonderful places .
EXCELLENT production, LOVE how you use the map then fill us in, & I'm sure the little tidbits you throw in help other travelers, "Beer Olives" ???? What's dat??
Nice video & informative. The paying side of 7 Feathers RV campground is VERY nice. Good job on pronouncing both Indian names correctly (Siskiyou Pass & Umpqua). I learned a bit more for next year's trip on a few stops we did not do on our Snowbird trip. We also like spending a week or so on the Rogue as we head to or from Central Oregon on our early Fall loop. Keep the shiny side up; the greasy side down & your wheels between the ditches.
Great video. It seems we are chasing each other up the west coast. We were probably staying at the Valley of the Rogue State Park when you stopped there and we are currently in Florence Oregon, right around the corner from Winchester Bay. Maybe we will run into you. By the way; Seven Feathers Casino is one of our favorite places to stop. Safe travels!
Great info Ray! We stopped at Seven Feathers to meet up with friends once ~ they were heading South and we were heading North. Really liked the last spot - if we could get a spot overlooking the water!
Looks like you got lucky (pun intended) at Seven Feathers. When we stopped there a few years back it was just jam-packed. I think we got the last parking spot, it was OK but a bit too busy for us.
I think we are in the sweet spot, lagging behind most of the snowbirds that have headed back north and before the summer crowds begin. Most places aren't too busy.
We’re driving along the Columbia Gorge right now and will be in Lincoln City, Oregon tomorrow afternoon after an overnight in the Portland area. Will have to keep an eye out for “Blue” while we’re exploring the coast next week.
Great video! Thanks for all the information. We will be leaving Palm Desert for a 4 month trip through northern California, into Oregon and Washington. We are pretty much booked everywhere but there are a few days that would entail longer driving than we like so your videos will provide us with some much needed options for overnighters!
Wow! It's been a year already. I was following your video last year when you were driving through California on your way back home. I live 30 minutes north of the Tachi Palace outside of Fresno. That gas station has the lowest prices in the Valley.
The next time you are in the Monterey Bay area (and we are here) you are welcome to look us up for a visit. We'd love to show you the local view of our home town. ~Lucy
Hi Ray and Anne. Just finished watching the video and was bummed to see you stopped so close to where I live when you stopped for lunch at Valley of the Rouge State park rest area. I could have run up to visit with you. My wife and I have camped many times in the campground there. Your pronunciations of Siskiyou and Umqua are correct by the way. We have friends with a class A who have stayed in the 7 Feathers campground and say it is very nice, but maybe a little pricey. Disappointed we didn't get to connect but maybe another time. Enjoy the coast.
You pronounced Siskiyou & Umpqua correctly. I left Phoenix on April 2nd & killed some time along the way so I could visit my son in Sacramento from the 5th - 7th. When I went by Lake Shasta on the 8th it was raining so hard it was like driving through Niagara Falls but it was great to see the lake back to capacity & there's plenty of Spring runoff stored on Mt. Shasta. I've made that trip up & down I-5 more times than I can count but thanks for the tip on Corning & the free camping at Seven Fathers. I think their real nice park is on the other side of I-5 & they maintain the public rest stop over there. I've seen a security gate and assume the part where the rich people stay is behind it. The Rogue Valley rest stop is a favorite and despite the freeway noise, beautiful. The next time you're in Reedsport make sure you visit The Sugar Shack bakery. They have the most incredible pastries and fresh bread (and they're inexpensive) so whenever I go to our lake house in Florence I always visit the bakery. I now refer to it as "The Sugar Shock" because I always eat way too much & take a big box back to Florence. I was smiling & groaning when you mentioned the marina in Reedsport. My bro-in-law had a fairly large sailboat that had been refitted with a new diesel, all new electronics & after it was put back in the water it sunk at the dock overnight. Apparently the gland nut on the propeller shaft hadn't been installed correctly & the only salvageable part was the engine which had to be flushed numerous times with fresh water & oil. My bro-in-law paid $7000 for the engine & managed to get $2000 for it. The rest of the boat was scrapped and he could never prove what caused it to sink. It wasn't insured either because he was waiting for it to be completely finished & seaworthy. Thanks for all of the information you've provided in your videos. My trailer goes into storage this afternoon at my Nephew's farm which is only about 20 minutes away & we already have plans for modifications over the summer. I'm already looking forward to next Fall. All the best to you & Anne.
I liked your video. You pronounced Siskiyou and Umpqua correctly. I was raised in Weed, moved to Reedsport and now live in Roseburg. I know all the area around the end of your leg of the trip. By the way Weed in known for high gas prices. Seven Feathers RV Resort is one of the best I have stayed at. Yes we camped 25 miles form home but we met up with friends.
Thanks, paid $3.85 for diesel didn't seem too out of line compared to the rest of California, lots of places were pushing 4 bucks or more. lowest I saw was 3.33 at a native casino north of Bakersfield, man those pumps were busy! :) Not looking forward to being back in BC, it's up around 5 bucks a gallon I hear. Cheers, Ray
Hi, have you add any suspension components to help with handling the weight you pull? Do you get a lot of bouncing when you're pulling the 5th wheel? If so I would like to recommend "Timbren Suspension Enhancement System" I have a 2017 Ram 2500 and with just my coils I got a lot of bouncing when I hit some bumps. The Timbrens helps it ride more controllably and when empty they don't touch the axle so you get the same smooth ride. Anyway just my 2 cents. Love your videos.
No, the ride is good. Seems to be matched up well. my 3500 uses leaf springs. It's kinda bouncy without weight going off road but once it gets loaded it smoothes things out. I also have an Air Ride pin box - www.loveyourrv.com/lippert-air-ride-pin-box-review/ Cheers, Ray
Thanks, if we are fairly level I'll leave the truck hitched and just put down the stabilizer jacks. I try to pick a spot I can open our slide, usually over a curb area. Though we can still get to the kitchen and bedroom and bath fine, its a little cramped with it in.
Perfect pronouncing! ;) 7 feathers has good fuel pricing we stopped there a lot when we moved from Medford to Coos Bay. 38 is neat with all the tiny water falls along and the elk viewpoint. I haven't done it, but apparently you can rent crab traps in Winchester Bay. I love my coast.
Here is a review that I did after 6 years - www.loveyourrv.com/cougar-trailer-review-fulltime-rving/ We are now at over 8 years of full time living and its still holding up pretty well, though repairs are needing to be done more and more often as things age. Cheers, Ray
Suggest taking US101 from Hollister up through Yrecka, Bandon, OR to your coastal destination in OR. Holster is big in Garlic and Olives which are made into oil. Oops, need to watch explanation of cut across route to Crescent City
Thanks for the Elkton shout-out Ray. If you like sourdough bread, there is a great place along Hwy 101 in Winchester (pink building) to get some. Safe travels, cheers.
Thanks for the ride Ray, I like the way you guys travel, like the camping in the Vineyards as we live in Niagara On The Lake On Canada & are surrounded by them, Your trailer reminds me of ours, we have a Grand Design Refection 230rl, almost the same layout, nice size to tow, have to ask you about your solar panel storage in back of truck & you water filter back bumper, maybe you could do video on them. My 2 100 watt panels are on back seat (total pain) We will be doing the 4. 4. 4. Method coming home from Florida next week no more than 4 hours driving, no more than 400 km & off the road by 4 pm, happy travels
Your welcome Willy, Here are the blog posts with videos - www.loveyourrv.com/replacing-damaged-portable-solar-panel-plus-new-mounting/ www.loveyourrv.com/clearsource-rv-water-filter-review-install-mod/ Cheers, Ray
Very nice video. But I must tell you that you are a saint for tolerating 2.5 - 3 hrs drives when you like to do more. As an 7 - 9 person I can't imagine. Safe travels.
Lived in Siskiyou County (where Weed is) for years before moving south. The Pilot that you were near is the cheapest gas in the county. However, if you could have waited until Ashland, OR - gas there is FAR less expensive. Did you know that the Lemurians live in tunnels beneath Mt. Shasta? Well... even if that isn't true - Mt. Shasta Brewing in Weed brews a Lemurian Lager at a dangerous 6% ABV!
Thanks, was getting low and didn't want to risk trying to make it to an Oregon station paid $3.85. Not terribly cheap in Oregon most are well over 3 bucks for a gallon of diesel right now. The state average is $3.36 but just filled in Reedsport for $3.01 Cheers! Ray
love the video with the map that was cool to watch thanks for sharing I got to learn how to do this lol still learning editing on ours lol well glad your safe and in good health we were through there when we did our west coast trip all the way to Washington ok well Im babbling lol take care happy Easter
Hi Ray! What app are you using to drop pins on the areas you stop? Or is this an Apple/MacBook feature? I have a PC and use an Android phone. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
The fuel mileage for this trip was right around 12 MPG driving normally around 62 MPH. I'm usually seeing around 11.5 in the mountains and around 13.5 on flat freeways. Of course, that's with no wind, a strong headwind can knock that back down to 11.5. The new truck is better than our old one that was usually 8 in the mountains and 10 on flat land at a similar speed. I think the 3.42 rear gears versus 4.10s I had before and the 6 speed versus 4 speed are the main differences.
Love Your RV What is the speed limit on the roads you only drive 62mph? When I am towing my travel trailer I don’t drive any faster than 65mph in 65-70mph zones. If I heading a strong head wind I drop the speed down to no more than 55mph even in the 65-70mph zones.
California highways have a posted 55 MPH speed limit for trucks and autos towing trailers and usually 70-75 for regular vehicles. Kinda messed up having it that way, I find around 60-62 is what most the truck traffic is doing so try and keep with the flow. The I5 in Oregon had signs for trucks 60 and autos 65.
Love your videos, especially your use of the aerial photos. It brought back memories of my motorcycle trips to area from Indiana that I made in early 90s

Great video, as always. We've stayed at seven feathers, but on the other side of the building. I think you found the nicer side!
Looking forward to your review of the marina dry camping location. That place looked interesting! Love your use of Google maps!!😍
We just love the Oregon coast.
We do too, so much to explore!
Great video. We are from Alberta and frequent the Oregon Coast with our 5th Wheel, Winchester Bay is an excellent area. Oregon state parks as well are some of he best parks to stay as well.

Excellent! Thanks for taking us along. :-)) :-))
I thought my wife complaining after 5-6 hours on the road was bad. Doing 2-3 hour legs on a long journey would kill me! :D
Just Great Travelogue , Enjoyed Immensely with Lots of Excellent Information. Looking Forward to the Next Up- Load.

Yes, no problems, love it so far.
Hi Ray! What app are you using to drop pins on the areas you stop? Or is this an Apple/MacBook feature? I have a PC and use an Android phone. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
It as just the Google Maps website in a desktop PC browser. I just mapped the route and put the map into satellite and 3D mode.
I really appreciate your use of Google Earth with your route overlays. Any chance of getting you to do an instructional video on how to do that?
Thanks. Do you mean how I make it into a video clip or how I make Google Maps look like that or both?
Love Your RV Both would be really helpful... If it's not too much trouble😉
I'll add it to my todo list. :)

Not many destitute friends in your address book.
LOL, was thinking the same thing
Destitute friends don't usually don't have a place to park an RV. ;)
