I'm sure it's not the case that Dr. Rice would be the first African American to hold the BM degree. However, if that indeed İS the case, would imply that US had not been a nation of ample opportunities for all ethnicities at the time of Dr. Rice's academic music endeavours.

She read political science and dropped out of music because she didn't think she had the talent to be a professional musician.

I’m not a fan of Ms. Rice or most of her political stances, however as a musician I must say I have a high respect for her talent and musicality. She really is truly a class act.

I was sad and upset seeing some of the comments made about Ms.Rice rendition to the Queen Elizabeth II, how sad and a disgrace for some people trying to ridiculous her with their nasty feedback. I think that if one does not have any nice thing to say about someone, does not say anything at all.
Ms.Phipps, Surely you can tell by the low and base remarks exactly from where such remarks come. Remember "Consider the Source". She is such a cultured and refined person and obviously Queen Elizabeth thinks the same and ASKED Dr. Rice to play, which she did in a lovely manner, a rather difficult chamber music set. Dr. Rice makes me proud to be an American. She has been a fantastic role model for my grand-daughter.... by the way, we are not African American in case anyone wonders.

It's not the fault of the music or Ms. Rice. The string players did nothing with it, it sounds like it wasn't rehearsed.
