In this short first part of the presentation on the worldview of vedanta and science second in series of presentations on Vedanta Dr. Viswanathan initially explains why worldview of people matters for democracy. In a country where people in general maintain a pre- modern worldview, democracy would be hard to take root, and such a society would easily slip into the grip of oligarchy, theocracy and such other forms of Government unsuitable for human flourishing.One major component of 'world view' is a concept about how valid knowledge about nature can be arrived at. Post enlightenment, in much of the 'western world', it became generally agreed upon that science is the only way of such knowing, and everything else is just superstition.Enlightenment itself was propelled by a confidence in secular-scientific knowledge to challenge all inherited dogmas, and its project itself was a 'revolt against superstition'. It is not an accident that the phrase "Nullius in verba'- ( "We take nobody's word for it' ) came to be a widely accepted motto of scientists The refusal to accept anything without demonstration and reason , was simultaneously a refusal to bow to the authority of those have hitherto claimed a unique possession of truth, thus paving way to the secularization of all institutions and ideas in these societies. This is how the roots of traditional European culture in the sacred, magic, kingship and hierarchy were thoroughly shaken during age of enlightenment and thereafter.All legitimations of monarchy, aristocracy, women’s subordination, ecclesiastical authority and slavery, were thus overthrown in these societies.
In contrast, Vedanta holds that the only way to know about nature of he universe is through scripture. Vedantha deals with existance(സത്യം) and consiousness(ചൈതന്യം). Vedantha claims from our experience that each experience comprise of both subject and object(മനോവൃത്തി). Subject without object is pure consiousness which is unmanifested as it can never experienced.
*here it challanges material explanation of consiousness.vedantha claims consiousness in not a byproduct of life.
It also explain universe and matter as borrowed existance which are manifestation of fundemental reality-existance by infinte regression fallacy(അവസ്ഥ ദോഷം) According to shankara, reality is what which can nevere subject to sublation again .Here it negates creation of universe.ഇതങ്ങനെ പറയാൻ പറ്റില്ല, കുറെണ്ട്.. ഇതിൽ നിങ്ങൾ അഭിപ്രായ വ്യത്യാസം പറയുമ്പോൾ ആവാം ബാക്കി
