BMW R1250RS crash…my poor girl

The subject bike of a few of my videos and I were involved in a severe crash on the freeway in early April 2022. Texting driver drifted into the center median spinning back onto the freeway taking me out in the process. Caught it out of the corner of my eye and managed to avoid right but obviously not enough. I broke my left shoulder (requiring surgery), 11 ribs, left foot, right leg, collapsed lung, major bruises etc. What I didn't get was ANY road rash or head trauma courtesy of my Arai Signet helmet, BMW coverall suit with full armor and airflow gloves. ALWAYS WEAR YOUR GEAR.

Thanks for sharing. Sucks to hear about your accident, but I hope our community can learn some extra safety tips from your experience. Was there anything that we can learn from your incident? Was there any possibility of avoiding the car that hit you?

The only thing I can think of is if you see a car maneuvering oddly, put as much space between you and them as you can. I didn’t react immediately because here in California, cars often move over for filtering motorcycles.

Damn. Texting drivers!!!! Most times it is a female. Hope you heal well and get back on the road. Too bad the bike is totalled. I had a bad one in Novermber 2021 and am riding again. Best wishes!

Thanks for your sentiments. Yes, texting drivers are a major hazard. I'm getting better every day and will probably go back to an RT but I did love the RS.If you see a car acting "funny" in traffic, get away however you can.

I should also point out. Check your insurance limits. My uninsured motorist limit was 50K. Figured it’s just a bike. The driver that hit me only has 20/40. Barely enough to be legal. That means he gets dinged for the accident but goes on his merry way. I get 4 to 6 months of pain and suffering plus a big question mark if I go back to work ever. Mangled for life left foot. Yes I got a lawyer but it all comes down to insurance. Just saying.

I was in the second from the outside lane in a four lane interstate. A car next to me and slightly in front started drifting into the shoulder and eventually collided with the center median. He then bounced and spun out back into the traffic lanes colliding with me as I attempted to avoid him into the second lane. I’m fairly sure based on the way he drifted across the shoulder into the median that this person was texting. I went down at 65 miles an hour , he was going closer to 80 according to CHP.
