Oh man, I know I'm going to LOVE it! Just look at how beautiful it is and how well it works. I’ve already noticed so many significant facts to share about the warbow SIL. It literally takes all the advantages from a longbow and crossbow and combines them, overcoming the inherent drawbacks of each weapon at the same time.
I’m so excited to get this beast, shoot it and give a detailed breakdown of all my thoughts. You're a legend mate!

Can't wait to see you shoot it and give your take on things. Perhaps you can even have completely inexperienced archers try it out as well!
I wonder if we'll begin to see this invention in fantasy in the years to come? I would love to see how some authors would lay out a timeline for this device's invention.

I have so much respect for longbow archers from a historical context, and for those who keep up the tradition today.

First off, I can't draw a warbow. But I think for Joerg it's mostly an issue of technique. He is not activating his back muscles that much, only leaning very slightly. He is still right about developing those specific back muscles though, but I think he would have a much easier time if he used the right technique.

@@davidvondoom2853 Do they also use Dex for damage?
In Pathfinder you use Dex to hit with ranged weapons.
Damage is static with crossbows, static but you take penalties for low strength with simple bows and you straight-up add strength for compound bows.
That is of course not perfect but at least kinda logical. You need coordination to hit your target and strength for penetration

Good job! That looks even better-made than your usual work. Suggestion for a Mark II: inset a steel rod which sticks out three feet forwards, with a button on the end. When aiming and shooting, this acts as an anti-torque weight. When loading (without rubber), you place it on the ground and then as you pull with your right hand, you lean into the ground with your bodyweight and this does the same job as the rubber.

This device would make a trained archer more accurate, and the stability of not having to "hold" the draw should keep a seasoned archer fresh for many more shots before tiring and losing power/accuracy. Awesome solution Joerg!
When you drew out the bow without the rubbers, the only workaround I could see would be a foot stirrup. As you said, the draw requires muscle groups that no average person would train regularly.
Very nice of Shad to send you this piece!

Those of your fans that build inventions know how much effort you’re applying.
That said, JoergSprave, one must get INSIDE the draw to pull 110+ pounds!
The current standard of 70% letoff in US compound bows makes me ask why archers aren’t pulling 100+ lbs- if you only have to hold 30?

@Jim Nickles They issued a ban on the use of bows and crossbows against Christians and Catholics, as part of the Pax et Treuga Dei movement, who were really concerned about warfare among Christians (wanting instead that energy being spent on external foes) It hardly ever stopped anyone, except for those rare few lords and monarchs who banned their use on the internal level, but gladly fielded them against opponents. See it as an attempt by the Church to engineer more unity in Christianity rather than a morally-based ban on weapons.

I believe you can make a contraption for drawing the bow with your foot - a shoulder mounted pulley or something.
Then you can just stomp down with your body weight and grab the front lever. 100 pounds would be no match for you!

  • @Mhorton32
    @Mhorton32 4 роки тому +2

@JoergSprave it's very impressive that you are drawing that with basically one shoulder. If you decide to try to tackle this bow without the rubber assist, two small adjustments and I have no doubt you could do it. Start your pull leaned forward at the hips. Your right arm should start at least half cocked and your left holding the bow half bent. This allows you to push with your left arm and shoulder, pull with your right arm, shoulder and back.
