So glad the comments are back because I’ve been dying to say those cacti outside are the hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi). That’s all.
I worked in Chandler for 6 months many years ago and this was my favorite mall to go to on weekends because the air was always cool and refreshing in the heat of summer. It looks better than ever.
I spent LOTS of time smoking outside where that fancy new entrance is when I worked at that mall. The inside looks boring but way more elegant than it used to. The "fancy shops" keep most of their stock in a back stockroom and they bring it out to you when you are shopping. It's an old school, classy way to shop and display merchandise. The Neiman used to close at 5pm. "Working People" were not their customers. It used to be a Sakowitz!
Thank you for doing this it means a lot to me for you doing this. Because I've moved out of state a few years ago. I've lived in the area for all of my 35 or so years of my life. Thank you so much
Interesting. Yeah, it does seem more sterile than it was before but that probably was the point. It is a really cool mall in general. It does make sense to move all of the high priced shops into one area.
My favorite SFS will always be the early 90s desert tones look with all the original fountains. It's just not comfortable anymore - it's stark and cold, not at all fitting to the desert. But, at least it's being upgraded continuously.
Looks nice. I liked that circular ramp and thought it gave the mall some character. They should have just widened it. There is a mall kinda by me that has a couple luxury stores but not as many as in this video. That mall is very nice. It has a couple stretches where it's all skylight like in your video. It's all glass and they can open it up when the weather is nice. It's a cool concept so it's like an indoor/outdoor mall.
I think it will survive because going there is kind of a status symbol like driving around in a Ferrari but without that or a youth hang out online makes more sense
Holy crap. Idk if it's your lens or the actual property but this mall's entry area is huuuuuge. It's cool that the luxury wing is so open and airy with Windows petting in sunlight. I wonder if they are going to or already did make the windows tinted or treated with UV protection so that people don't get too hot inside though.
I miss the Nature Company, which sold science and nature related gadgets, toys and books. It smelled of candles, soap and spices, and actually affordable. For a short time, Nickelodeon opened a toy store next to the Disney Store, while local PBS had a gift shop with items tied into their documentaries and educational shows.
I visited years ago when it was two separate malls, with no roof. They had a REVCO drug store and a grocery store. Across the canal was a car dealership, which was remodeled into a Chinese buffet, now gone. It had white stucco walls and ironwork rails. The Purple Cow served sandwiches and ice cream. I got a little Erector Set at a mom and pop toy store on the second floor at the west end. I think it was the first Disney Store location in Arizona.
I would image they had to change or die, it is Scottsdale. I was a mall rat from my early teens (go on 70) and am sad to see all of them dying around the country. To have this one still thriving is fantastic. Can't wait to get through covid and head out again.
Something about rainy days here in the valley makes me wanna hit the mall and that is the mall to visit only because most stores there get special items that all the other malls with the same stores don’t.
The new look of the mall is nice; but it's just too bland... Plus it's kinda entering that cookie-cutter look that malls have to have today, especially if they're owned by certain companies.
I’ve been living in Arizona for 8 yrs now and I have only been to fashion square one time. I had to pick up a ubereats order from the food court. And I almost got lost because I forgot where I parked 😂
This place used to be the shit. Lived in East mesa as a teen when it was new in 88. In my early 20s I lived in old town snottsdale. I even went to the galleria that failed after a year or so. Arizona used to battle other malls and shut them down. Metro was the place then Fiesta. Then superstition springs then Chandler fashion square etc. I went last year to this mall and it was dead and dark. I was bragging to my wife about spending time as a teen and my early 20s here.
My mall still has 4 fountains, the on in the center court of the mall shoots up like 15-20 feet, and the 3 others are near every anchor which are all filled.
I think the really stark, modern look with its bright open spaces has its own kind of charm. I personally don't hate it. It adds an interesting bit of drama with its sense of scale. Also, I really don't think that Sketchers store is paying the same rent as Cartier. It'd be more like if Cartier so chose, they'd pay the same rent as Sketchers if they opened right next to them in the lower price store section of the mall. The rent most likely varies depending on section plus the particular spot.
No soul in this place, Metro from the 80's looked like a giant spaceship so cool...and the memories people had there...this place is nothing but surface but that's the world of the rich I guess..judgey prickly vibe
I was there twice. First time was a year ago and it was doing great. The second was a month ago. I see a bunch of vacancies all of the sudden. The top had barely any foot traffic. Too bad.
I've picked up some good deals shopping at Neiman's after Christmas. Maybe not Walmart prices, but certainly a lot nicer quality and I could afford to buy them.
Nice video, I don't get up there much. Guessing they went with neutral colors because neutral always seems to be in style, no matter what the current trend is. Much cheaper upkeep. I'm always amazed at people who tear out a neutral kitchen/bathroom in a house and put in the latest trend's color palette. That's great if you love it, but when you sell it'll look dated, whereas the neutral one will always be OK.
I used to work in that wing of the mall, stores would only close for one on one shopping if they call in advance, if not they would shop with everyone else by arrivng without notice. Also celebrities are overrated, a lot of them are waay to arrogant for their own good and have a superiority complex lol Mo money, mo problems
Sure, it definitely looks like a very contemporary (gonna look dated soon enough) luxury mall. Love the entry. But while it looks luxury... it also looks mall. It's still just a mall.
I wish they would build more parking in the area. It’s always a hassle to find parking anywhere in that area other than that the place is looking nice!
I like how bright and geometric it is, but it also looks kind of boring, and a bit too sharp and hostile in my opinion. Those square glass railings are driving me nuts, i just keep imagining somehow tripping and losing an eye on a corner.
i hated the brass look, if it was a rose gold brass yes. but brass in general it makes it look dated. i love of they up up dated the mall. more clean not out of place and nasty. i like the remodel
Im so uncomfortable in a high end store. I feel like Ill break something and have to pay for it or that they're watching me thinking Ill steal something.
Oof why did they get taken away? Did u show a 17 year old KID ? That one time in tat one sec clip? Smh ur so wary idk why they censored u to start with anyways luv the vids keep da guud work up
Coach & Michael Kors have lost some of there exclusivity why have a stand alone store when Macy's sells both brands? amd if you want you can find both brands on the pre loved market and huge discounts
its very sterile and monotonous with the white marble. I imagine a lot of shoppers aren't going to spend a lot of time appreciating the skylight given the hot arizona sun
Scottsdale Fashion Sq Mall has to be the most boring Mall I've ever been in, in the country. Also, it's too high end, and mostly caters to women's fashion clothing. There is almost no reason for a male to go to this mall. I've never had that kind of experience in the hundreds of malls I've been in.
So glad the comments are back because I’ve been dying to say those cacti outside are the hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi). That’s all.
NERD! I love cacti too!
I worked in Chandler for 6 months many years ago and this was my favorite mall to go to on weekends because the air was always cool and refreshing in the heat of summer. It looks better than ever.
My dad was the Operations Manager of this mall for years! Its one of the only malls that's still going well....and there's never any parking!
They need to do paid parking like LA malls, it’ll free up more parking.
I spent LOTS of time smoking outside where that fancy new entrance is when I worked at that mall. The inside looks boring but way more elegant than it used to. The brass railing is gorg very vintage
I actually really like this new remodel. The fact that it's really cold and stark and impersonal feels really nostalgic to me.
Remember when mall fountains were littered with coins?
All kinds of money to spend on all kinds of wishes in the last quarter of the 20th century.
Omg the entryway is perfect for a photoshoot!!!💕😍😭
This is a FASHION Comment because they are BACK!! Finally.
Thank you for doing this it means a lot to me for you doing this. Because I've moved out of state a few years ago. I've lived in the area for all of my 35 or so years of my life. Thank you so much

"Stem cell, skin care products". Sounds like an episode of Futurama come true😂😂
Is that the baby foreskin I've heard some chicks rub on their faces?
My favorite SFS will always be the early 90s desert tones look with all the original fountains. It's just not comfortable anymore - it's stark and cold, not at all fitting to the desert. But, at least it's being upgraded continuously.

It is sad that Jake Paul's Looting of this mall is what sent me back here watching this video. How dare he trash such a beautiful mall.
At 10:14 we see a GNC in the luxury wing!
@@cydm2 Especially if their rent's been raised!
COMMENTS RE-ENABLED LET'S GOO BOYS!
When I need my next Rolex I will be sure to swing by.
I think it will survive because going there is kind of a status symbol like driving around in a Ferrari but without that or a youth hang out online makes more sense
Good video. Very interesting. I agree with you on the decor changes in that mall wing. Thanks for creating this video.

This is the west wing End it is my favorite part I hang out there like five minutes every time I go to that mall
I like the monochromatic look! It’s obviously subjective but that’s what’s in at the minute 🤷🏼♀️😂
I personally think if they decided to keep the brass railings along with the new marble aesthetic it would look much better.
Besides now I still love this place
I would image they had to change or die, it is Scottsdale. I was a mall rat from my early teens (go on 70) and am sad to see all of them dying around the country. To have this one still thriving is fantastic. Can't wait to get through covid and head out again.
I thought this was a dead mall video at first and I was shocked because Fashion Square was my childhood mall.
There used to be a faux jewellery store where that YSL store was near the Neiman Marcus, iirc.
Something about rainy days here in the valley makes me wanna hit the mall and that is the mall to visit only because most stores there get special items that all the other malls with the same stores don’t.

How about one on Desert Ridge?
My friend and I went into this mall recently just to gawk at all the over-priced products and appreciate the interior design.
When Nordstrom's was added in the late 90s, that area was considered the "luxury wing". Now I guess they are going for "super lux".
4:35 that couch looks dirty af! 😷🤢
Hahahaha I wonder how many people sit on that fountain thinking to rest and get their ass wet.
Hilarious
No soul in this place, Metro from the 80's looked like a giant spaceship so cool...and the memories people had there...this place is nothing but surface but that's the world of the rich I guess..judgey prickly vibe
I prefer the old wheel chair ramp outside of Neiman's.
Even the bathrooms are fancier on the luxury wing.
I was there twice. First time was a year ago and it was doing great. The second was a month ago. I see a bunch of vacancies all of the sudden. The top had barely any foot traffic. Too bad.

I like the bras railings, too. Too bad I couldn't afford that place! :)

That’s a lot of pretentiousness for only one wing of a mall.
Jealous?
The most LUXURIOUS!
Also LOVE that entrance fountain!
U broke broke.
I can't wait to shop there !!🤗
6:35 Its so boring, hollow and lifeless.
Yeah I do kinda agree with you on that one along with the guy in the video. Why is everybody into squares in building designs?!
It's funny about luxury. The celebs come in but they need to wall off the place when they do. I think I'd hate being famous.

It's still just a mall.
Sad to think that 10 months later the place would be shut. I hope it's picking up now.
Finally able to comment again!!🥳
Thanks for re enabling the comments
I wish they would build more parking in the area. It’s always a hassle to find parking anywhere in that area other than that the place is looking nice!
Personally, I'd add a cafe next to the Dillards like Nordstrom.
Great idea
GNCs are just everywhere.
Do a video on the regular part of the mall
Things that are classy do often lack character. I like the marble flooring, aesthetically. I don't like it for a mall setting as much.
I like how bright and geometric it is, but it also looks kind of boring, and a bit too sharp and hostile in my opinion. Those square glass railings are driving me nuts, i just keep imagining somehow tripping and losing an eye on a corner.
the only money left is luxury clientele
All gray/neutral with some pops of color is what's in right now.
i hated the brass look, if it was a rose gold brass yes. but brass in general it makes it look dated. i love of they up up dated the mall. more clean not out of place and nasty. i like the remodel

Ayyyyy AZ
Omg I hate the renovations. SFS used to be awesome to walked around in.
The Apple store there is gorgeoussssssssss
Me and Alice Cooper almost walked into each other.
There’s a Dillard’s in that “luxury wing” ? Yeah I’m done.
yeezus Dillard’s owns the space it occupies
Coach & Michael Kors have lost some of there exclusivity why have a stand alone store when Macy's sells both brands? amd if you want you can find both brands on the pre loved market and huge discounts

Its for gold diggers
Yah comment
No way Zumiez is "luxury" lol.
... i don’t know how they managed it, but that luxury wing already manages to look dated and i’m only watching this seven months later.
Macy's is hardly luxury.
👍❤️
This new style of mall design has swept across most Simon properties. I hate it... it has no character and is incredibly banal.
Oh man that Wing is so bland at least put out some pots with flowers or something
Overpriced stuff just to say you have money to spend.
Hard to do this kind of retail unless you can nail French pronunciation, which you aren't.
Capitalism at it's worst :(
The Recluse how so?
That’s not how you do a luxury mall. Looks like any other mall. Look to the Middle East how proper luxury malls are done.
140-170M is a small economy.
If you don't like marble, you have a bad taste.
@Andrew Holt it's not meant to be used as cutting boards.
