I've watched hundreds of short films and animations but none have managed to make me cry ridiculously hard until this one. the music, the shadow of the kid as it flees into their imagination and the shattered adult becoming whole again in the hug... I've genuinely never seen or read anything that encapsulates the emotions all around it as well as this film. Thank you and please keep creating
The image of the cats shatters beginnings to fade as they hug their childhood self has me in tears, as an artist its so easy to get caught up in the busy life of an adult and only focus on the final peice, on how to make this perfect and how to make it work to others. you forget the kid who picked up a pen not because they had to, not because they were perfect at it, but because it was fun. I think the refined skills of an adult can tie to the fun and carlessness of having fun, its just knowing when its okay to let go- be imperfect, make it messy, do what you enjoy.
Absolutely in love with this, perfectly encapsulates childhood memories and how damaging it can be too look back at the memories with jealousy over the fact that you can’t experience it again. In my opinion :)
this is so so so amazing im blown away, this is genuinely one of my favorite animation projects ive ever seen. the art is incredible, the use of color and the way everything is animated and moves feels so vibrant and full of life, and yet so warm and comforting at the same time... and the ending really touched my heart too 😭 genuinely i am so grateful that i saw this!!! thank you for making this!!!
For me, tears have become a very rare occurrence, even when alone with myself. Can’t describe enough how happy I am that I’m still able to cry, thank you
Wow ive never seen a calarts film like this. The traditional drawings, the colors, the old video effects, the way the textures move... It feels so vividly like a childhood memory. Every second feels so alive. I'm so glad this popped up for me! Congrats on your film 💛
this is really beautiful 💛 to me it seems like a story about growing up, and accepting your inner child, despite all the harm and troubles it went through. made me tear up, thank you
wow, this is beautiful. i always find myself getting that really sickly nostalgic feeling, where i can just barely feel my childhood again and the memories are all fuzzy and warm. but it always slips away from me and i have to keep growing up. this is very healing. i can't ever be that little kid again, but i can always carry a piece of them with me. we can be friends again
how emotional.. I like the relationship between light and shadow, it gives me an almost maternal comfort in accepting the past as it was, even with scars.
This is so underrated. I love the vibe and the story is great! I think it's one of my favourite animated film now! I hope one day you will find the recognition you deserve
yay another fan!!! i’m glad i could remind you of their music 😄 its truly amazeballs… mr thief’s music has always been with me during my most emotional times.
This made my cry. For the longest time I feel like I’ve neglected my childhood and who I wanted to be. Pressure has gotten in the way of things. Thank you for helping me search for my authentic self again
genuinely such an amazing work of art. the bending of reality mixed in with the crayon animation and hypnotic music all together makes this such an immaculate blend for the senses as an amazing representation of keeping in touch with your inner child. absolutely astounding work! 💖
i don't even know what this film is about and yet i relate to it so heavily. the imagery, the song, the idea of a person in two, mentally unintentionally accidentally tearing themself apart. it hits hard, especially since i've been through it before. the style and the use of everything looking like a child's drawing really leans into the feeling of chaos, nostalgia and joy. in short, this is... i paused for a few seconds and realized i don't have any words to describe it some mix between chaos, nostalgia and joy, i guess in a very good way
please never stop making things like this; mid air thief is one of my favorite artists, but i’d forgotten about them and hearing that signature ring of their music made me tear up within the first ten seconds. the art is beautiful. all of it is beautiful
i keep coming back to this video occasionally and it's an overwhelming wave of emotions and thoughts every time. i almost never post comments on videos but this legitimately brings me to tears every single time, your taste in music and artstyle are just on a whole other level. never stop animating, please
everything about this is so so beautiful!! 😭😭💞the colors, animation, the stylee, everything this is seriously one of my favorite videos to watch, its so pleasing and and comforting . And the little details!! I love the writing and drawings on the walls in the room at the end, the "floore" and " calARts" 😭🩷I especially love how the art style changes for the pink cat as they get older, from crayon scribbles to more details and neatyly colored in. Sane for the white cat, they also look like they have more details too, cute little sewn patches , until the younger cat comes back and it's back to more crayon scribbles which is also a really neat detail ! It's like the art style is progressing, from the white cat being blank, then cryaon scribbles, then more im literally so obssed 😭😭😭 and the animation fits the song so well conveys the mood perfectly its so so amazing
it's two am and while theoretically only one teardrop fell from my eye, I sorta feel like I've cried for half an hour, but the video is only 2 minutes and a half. That's how deeply that got me, the art style put it so well together. I have no words, what a great timing for this to be on my recommended.
When I clicked on this video I was not expecting mid-air thief to play. Quite the pleasant surprise, but now that I think about it, it's a perfect match for the visuals. Stunning work.
This animation just makes me think of my childhood pet, my little kitty cat Loola. Ever since I moved out of my parents house every time I come home she looks older and older, I think she doesn’t remember me anymore because she won’t even let me pet her, she used to sleep right next to my head every night growing up, I probably look like a stranger to her now all grown up, I miss you baby. I’m sorry I left
wow wtf. even though i'm not sure i 100% fully understood all of the symbolism and intent behind the film i was still left with actual tears in my eyes at the end 😭😭😭😭this is amazing. you're a huge inspiration i'm so glad i saw this thank you so much for sharing your work!!
the medium is so mesmerizing not only did you capture all of the emotions the video itself looks like how it feels , for me, to reminisce in the nostalgia of childhood experiences and emotions :]
I've been watching people's animations they upload to youtube since I was 10 and I'm 20 now and this one is one I can tell is going to be special to a lot of people, including me, truly. thank you for making things and making this
to me, this animation screamed escapism. while the main character and the kitty jump along and seem happy, they completely ignore the shadow character. i believe this is because while they are growing up, they are avoiding unhappy thoughts and feelings, diving completely into escapism. they don’t allow themself to recover from the trauma they once endured. eventually, it catches up to them and they are left broken, until finally, they confront themself head on, and they are at peace. but anyway, this video changed something in me. i am so genuinely astonished at the beauty of this animation. you have made something truly remarkable
In my trauma therapy I brought this to my therapist to explain a deep seated raw emotion i couldnt describe otherwise. thank you for moving me so much with this film that it inspired change. its truly something so special.
i know logically this is about lose of childhood but this hits me so hard thinking about my childhood best friends that didn’t become adults, and how that grief made me feel so broken and that as i got older accepting these deaths helped me heal my younger self
I love this song, mid air thief rocks! So cool to see it honored in this animation, and what a beautiful animation at that! The visual style is so much fun. i love the color and the dreamyness too
perfect visual representation of Mid-Air Thief's sound. I thought Mirai Mizue's "Wonder" was my favourite animated short film but this may be the new number 1. Beautiful work.
I don’t think I’ve ever relate to an animation this hard before. The visuals and how they progress was spot on in capturing the mind of a kid so much, and how they grow up. I can only hope one day I’ll be able to hug my inner child again, and I’m watching this regularly to remind myself to do that ❤
absolutely stunning, and the use of mid-air thief is impeccable. i love mid-air thief so much so using a song of theirs makes this animation hit me in the heart even more.
This is absolutely amazing. I love the music, your visual effects, your art style, the storytelling -- everything. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this.
You are making such an energetic complex animation. The hand drawn look makes it work beautifully. I was an animation student at Cal Arts in Jules Engel program very early, 1972-74 and love seeing new work by Cal Arts students!
popping back to say my dad had a really interesting take on the video. He saw it as a the death of a childhood cat, and the feeling of loss being imprinted on their childhood/youth. The end shows the character finding that same feeling of love in their child when they're older. Very interesting and literal take, cheers!
duuuuude no way ive been listening to this song for FOREVER and have thought so many times about how cinematic it is and how cool it would be if someone used the song in a short film or art piece or something like that. this was such a cool watch and a great piece overall: good job!
Wow. This gives all the feels. I don't even know how to explain how it resonates with me, but it really hits. Art is really the only way to get across the immense and confusing feelings of childhood. The things you feel but don't have the tools to express. Trying to distance yourself from your inner child, but the inner child just won't let go. Seriously I'm just crying right now lmao
in a world filled with increasingly empty art, rarely does it do what i believe art is meant to do: make you feel something. even more impressive it made so many people feel so deeply, including myself. again, thank you❤
I love the colors and the cute, friendly look of everything. I'm having a pretty bad time in my life right now and this made me feel better some. Thank you.
this made me feel a lot of ways, but ultimately left me feeling inspired to work on developing my own means of expression and to create, so thank you for that
I thought I had abandoned my inner child due to becoming someone totally different than who I was, but now I see that I'm becoming everything my inner child wanted to be. If you become anything you want in your life, be who you've always dreamed of.

Omg idk why but this comment hit me hard. Almost started sobbing. It's so well said. Beautiful analyzing. It resonated with me.💗
I never thought I'd live to see the day someone would dare to use mid-air music for an animation. And I am glad it was this animation
100% agree
Whats mid-air music?
wait nvm i didnt read the desc 💀
