  • How to stain a deck with a paint sprayer, grey stain transformation. Using a Graco GXFF Airless paint sprayer and back brushing. Using a 108fflp and 314fflp tip. Cleanshot valve and extension. Purdy pole and brush holder.
    If you're wondering whats going on at the cut scene 4:38... well someone brought me out a coffee and whispered SIMON into the mic while i was filming. I didn't even see them bring the drink. When I was editing the film late in the evening it freaked me out. Imagine having your headphones on and hearing a voice say your name haha. Thought I'd keep it in as it made me laugh when I found out it wasn't a ghost. But that evening I definitely had a mini heart attack.
    The decking and handrail system were sprayed and then back brushed. I back brushed because the paint wasn't getting pushed into the grain. If I just sprayed the first coat it would have dried patchy and not bonded as well.
    The main focus here is transforming the decking from old and weathered to a nice new grey stain, which will bring it back to life.
    The handrail system is being replaced once the lock down is over. But in the mean time we painted it in to make it look more appealing and in keeping with the rest of the decking. Our paint delivery was delayed, so we have to wait for the rest of the decking stain and fence paint to arrive. We manage to get a coat on before the rain came so this helped make it more weather resistant.
    The decking was first cleaned with ronseal decking cleaner then it was pressure washed using the patio cleaner. I did a video showing the patio cleaner in action, check out the suggested video or have a look in my other videos.

    Holy shit you back brushed lol . That sir is the proper way to stain a deck . I tell people you have to brush a deck you can spray it to speed up application but you must back brush it still.

      Haha thanks for watching. Yes brush that first coat in as it can be abit rough so spray doesnt push into all the little areas. I spray the second coat straight on

      @@sprayaholic ya its rare I spray my stain unless it's a big deck or I'm spraying siding. I have a 210 fflp for cabinets I was going to use but after seeing your results with the 108 fflp I'm considering spraying this deck or atleast the pickets.

      @@jdav1984 well the 108 was for the spindles. The actual deck i think i used something like a 314 or even a 310 or 410.would be great. Try to get 2 planks in one pass to speed up coverage

    Hi, great video, I want to do my decking which has now faded from brown to grey. Thing is I am terrified whatever I use will peel off and when I re-apply it the next year it will be patchy. Is there any product which WILL NOT peel? Thanks

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  3 роки тому

      hey, a clean and pressure wash first. If the underside of the decking starts to soak up moisture then eventually it will be pushed out the top side which is why the paint then peels . tikkurila do a decking product, its not cheap but probably last longer than most. usually alot of brands just last a year if its not under heavy foot traffic. so long as the deckings properly dried out its the best chance you can have

    what would you say roughly was the coverage with this technique, tips, etc per gallon

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  3 роки тому

      That first coat just drank in the stain. I think it took 7L for 2 coats. Id estimated a similar amount for brushing only. So really the sprayer was just used as a speed of application

    What sort of time did that deck roughly take you with the sprayer plz? Iv been asked to do quite a large pub and I’m tempted to purchase the sprayer to save on time

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  2 роки тому

      The cleaning probably took the longest. But actual spraying time maybe 20mins per coat if that. Best to back brush that first coat then just spray the next i found

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  4 роки тому

      Its wicks own brand. Its a lovely colour when its solid. But like more of the cheap ones is super thin and is at least a 3 coat coverage with brush. Our order has just come and were going over with a darker colour now. Carbon in the ronseal range. Ha everywhere is sold out of stain so we've this is what they've gone for now.. Anti slip too.
      I'll pop another video up once i re coat. As it will ve darker and the next coats fly on. This first coat takes more time

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  4 роки тому

      Its £19 for 2.5l the wickes carbon slate.
      So pretty cheap really. Screwfix sell their own brand and its £9.99 weve used it before and its lasted over 3 years.
      All waterbased products. So long as cleaned properly and brushed in it should last
