Think it should be mentioned and shouted out that SkaTune Network played all the horns. They’ve been doing a lot of really great stuff for ska as a whole and are working with established artists now it’s rly cool
They rule! But other people played horns on the record. Mike Park plays some killer tenor sax on the Rudie of Breathing.

I really love Jeff. I know Jeff is and always has been "ska", but I think because this is a ska-focused project it's bringing me back to the days of listening on-repeat to albums like Three Cheers For Disappointment by his earlier project The Arrogant Sons of Bitches (and I still revisit that album lots). It's really heartwarming Jeff in the present day still fully embraces ska despite the stigma. Very nice review Melon :)

the ska revival I was waiting for. Japan kept the genre alight, 100 Gecs reminded people of Ska, and now OUR BOY IS HERE TO SHOW SKA IS STILL ALIVE!

The 4th wave is going to be pretty interesting with all of the people adding sounds to the genre.
Before "Bomb The Music Industry" was his band "Arrogant Sons Of Bitches" which was a super fast paced ska band. Love seeing him go ska again.

he didn’t want to give anyone time to form their own opinion
Lots of artists send him the album early so he can get it out quicker
i havent heard the original, i havent even heard of it, but this makes me absolutely need to listen to both albums immediately lmao. thats such a cool idea for a "remix" album, i love it haha

@@keviaaar he's like fairly adjacent to a lot of stuff i like, stuff like streetlight manifesto and dan potthast (dan's actually on both no dream and ska dream lol) that i've loved for a long time, so frankly i'm not sure what took me so long. i'd heard of bomb the music industry, but i had never actually listened to them until now, i dont think. but yeah his stuff is really good and im not sure why i hadnt stumbled upon it before haha
gotta be honest tho, i prefer no dream to ska dream way more, even though i was also a ska kid like jeff lol. i just think the songs and lyrics work better as punk songs, i feel like the ska dream versions really do sound like ska covers of songs that were originally in other genres... which, i mean, they are... lol. i should have gone in with that expectation, but tbh i think this review set my expectations a little too high? anyway i would love an album of all-original jeff rosenstock solo ska songs, written with ska sensibilities in the lyrics and themes too, i think he'd crush that. until then i mean ska dream is cool but no dream just hits me so much harder (obviously)

Anthony, as a fellow podcaster, I'd love to talk to you about Ska. I can recommend an insane amount of bands that are active today and kicking major ass.
Not only that, but bands like Dubioza kolective are taking the genre and mixing it with sounds that wouldn't make sense unless you actually think about it. The 4th wave is coming, and it is going to be the weirdest wave of ska.

These albums are like ying and yang to me - the tracks I didn't love as much on the original are bops on the second, it's funny how little overlap there is in terms of the songs I like between the two versions.
I loved No Dream. But TOTALLY IN LOVE with Ska Dream. One of my faves of the year so far.

After all these years you finally get the Ska revival you've been asking for
Lol one of my first concerts was the last concert of a Florida ska band “The Know How” at a tiny ass bar in Gainesville, Florida. Their saxophonist that show was none other than Jeff Rosenstock.
I haven't had this much fun with a record since I discovered ska for myself with RBF I high school. It's so good.
RBF is fucking amazing. My favorite album is candy coated fury.
I think the original was an 8 but this is definitely a 9. I mean I really appreciate the wealth of artists who brought more nuance to this project, Jeremy being especially indispensable and god knows I love hearing Laura and Jeff sing together, but you can also really hear how much fun everyone had made making it. It’s a product of quarantine but it’s a really joyful one, even when the lyrics are still expressing discontent. It’s sonic friendship and that really elevates it for me.
Ska out of any genre makes for the best covers.
Hey Anthony, can you a review an argentine album called "la grasa de las capitales" its a great album by a legendary argentine band called "serú giran" even though it's in spanish i think you'll enjoy it a lot.
If you like that album, I think you’ll like another Argentine band named Invisible, and their prog rock album “El Jardín De los Presentes”

I liked the ska album, but it's almost entirely 3rd wave ska style, along with a couple slower, more reggae type tracks. I really didn't hear any two-tone ska like you said there was.
