Im super excited for Ixhel, just for the sake of having a deck will all the sweet phyrexian art. I am already preparing my "trust me im not going to poison you to death, i'm just trying to get value" speech.
I feel like glistening sphere is even better than people are giving it credit for. One of the biggest issues with mana rocks (especially three mana ones) is that they do not do anything for you if you draw them on turn 7 with a bunch of mana already. This one is useful turn three as a ramp piece, and is useful turn ten as a way to generate a ton of value. Way underrated imo
Decree does also slightly incentivize your opponents to attack each other after someone has attacked you since it's the attacking player that draws, not just you
Tested her three times last weekend... was pretty pleased with her corrupted ability, specially since you always play their lands and never miss a drop :P
Honestly, I am disapointed. I hoped for a sweet theft style commander with corrupted subtheme but the deck is 99% just poison counters and prolifirate. Apart form the commander only one card steals opponent cards.
Personally I'm happy they focused on just corrupted. This is the only set and only precon we'll be getting to play with corrupted as a main theme, and we've already gotten a ton of theft commanders lately and they always have the opportunity to print more whenever.
I was hoping for more political stuff from a deck named "Corrupting Influence", like with cards that can bargain with poison counters. (since Corrupt mechanic only needs three)
@@Cyberium yea that would be so cool like tempting offer style of card that let your opponents remove poison counters in exchange for empowering or copying the spell.
Well I've got a new favorite Abzan commander. Would be nice to say, Turn 1: Birds of Paradise, Turn 2: Doran, Turn 3: Ixhel, turn 4: Swing for 10 at someone.
@@LycheeSago It's 10 regular damage, 5 of which is Commander damage, and swinging for a quarter of an opponent's life that early is still pretty good no matter how you look at it. At least it is for my playgroup.
So when it comes to Phrexia commander cards, I know they come in various booster packs too, but if you buy the two precon commander decks will you have every phyrexia commander card? New, so this may be a dumb question, sorry.
I don't believe so. There are commander "Exclusive" cards in recent sets that are found in set and collector boosters as well. A good example of this is Go-Shintai of Life's Origin from Kamigawa Neon Dynasty. It's not in either Precon, but it is a found in set and collector boosters.
I thought for sure I'd prefer this precon just going off the colour identity and face commanders, but it's actually more boring and narrow than the boros one, surprisingly. Regardless, still has some sweet tech gems for the 99 that could fit into a lot of decks.
@@zacharyfunkhouser4015 I'm not saying it isn't good, it's just very one dimensional and parasitic. Unless toxic becomes an evergreen mechanic (doubt) it's going to be really difficult to take the core of the deck into different directions. The thing it does it does well, it's just inflexible and narrow scoped imo.
@@zacharyfunkhouser4015 well yeah sure that's exactly what I thought, but then it has two commanders that can go very different directions, building off equipment or experience counters, go wide or go tall with tokens, aggravated assault strategies. I'm not convinced you can take the poison deck in any other direction or really change much about the strategy. But if that's a strategy that appeals to you then great- I usually don't play the precons 'raw' and just pick and choose the new singles for new decks I want to make anyway. And the leaders of this one just don't appeal to me, but that phoenix from the boros one looks interesting to me.
@@zacharyfunkhouser4015 uniqueness doesn't always mean interesting to build or play. You just pick best toxic/infect cards, some plolifirate and generic staples and go beatdown. The deck basically builds itself since there is will be likely only 1-2 sets with toxic/corrupted in the near future. They could have made it much more open ended and interesting by making a subtheme to it like they did to Ranar. He is a fortell commander but also cares about blink and exile in general, he makes spirit tokens so you can use a spirit trybal cards if you want
It's not really a theft deck, it's a corrupt deck. Your commander steals cards as a corrupt payoff but the rest of the deck is just different corrupt payoffs, nothing else is theft.
As someone who likes Abzan and wants more legends in the colors but finds poison boring, this is a bit of a dud for me. Happy for other people who find this exciting, though!
Funny enough, i dont think infact is that dangerous anymore with ammount of ways to win the game quickly nowadays, specially when the commander wants you to spread out the poison counters instead of focusing a single player
It's not an infect deck. Your win con is not poison counters, though they can win the game. The objective is to turn on Corrupted to pump up your deck's power and functionality. You can *choose* to keep poison counters low and non-threatening.
Both commanders for this precon are so terrible, what a bummer wizards played it so safe. The face commander doesn't protect itself and you have to untap with it. If a miracle happens and you dodge removal and actually hit someone with it the card only has toxic 2, and it's ability doesn't even turn on until an opponent has 3 poison, ugh. Plus even if you turn on the ability, playing your opponents cards is an inherently bad strategy since their cards don't necessarily synergize with your own gameplan. The backup commander buffs itself for each poison counter an opponent has, which doesn't even work with toxic as toxic doesn't care how big the creature is like infect does. At least give it trample so you can get in for a measley toxic 1 hit more often, and it doesn't even have that. I didn't mind powering down infect to toxic, but at least design the commanders so they have a chance to be slightly competitive, these are just too awful to even consider playing.
Corrupted turns on really fast, you can easily have 3 opponents with 3 poison each on turn four or five. There are lots of ways to distribute counters to each opponent rather than one at a time. They didn't just "power down infect to toxic", the entire point of the deck is to turn Corrupted on and it does that very well, and the deck synergizes around that. Poison counters are not the primary win con, but they can easily win you the game. This isn't marginally-effective Infect decks of old, but rather a commander-focused reimagining of Infect that, shockingly (for WotC), flows really well. Especially for a precon. Looking at the deck list is not enough to judge what this can do. The first time I started goldfishing it, I was surprised by how well everything worked together. It's very smooth and it can build up poison counters very quickly, even without Ixhel on the board/swinging. There's also solid graveyard recursion so if they're picking off Vishgraz because he's too strong, he just keeps making Phyrexian Mites but the bucketful. Then you drop Noxious Assault and swing with your 20 3/3s that apply poison counters on block, and you win the game. If you opponents are sending him to the command zone, well, that's even worse. Your assessment of the deck doesn't match up at all, to be honest.
@@AlexandraUnlocked I think you are looking at this from a completely different power level than me. At higher power this deck is laughably terrible, that assessment isn't wrong. If you are playing at lower power, which it sounds like you are, then sure maybe this does something. I have a feeling at most commnander tables though good luck, you will need it. Also goldfishing isn't playing real games, that's an exercise in futility. Every deck seems good when you are the only one playing.

Wait, was that the old card kingdom ad with the soldier fish? I’ve missed it so much…
Phyresis Outbreak has some sick art. Love that
A card that takes poison counters away from opponents for value would have been nice in this deck 🤔
These phyrexians are giving off Eldrazi vibes
I've wanted to make a abzan deck for commander, and I may have found it.
Abzan really needed 2 legends, the color combination deserves some love
Ghave was lonely
I went on edh rec and was like oh there's a bunch, and then saw that most of that was partner pairs.
Agreed! I love my Kathril :))
Nethroi gang over here
Tayam's been a blast for me
My boy Geth got fully compleated ;-; (he is now Vishgraz)

Reanimate with no downside isn't just now 4 mana, it also has potentially even more value. I guess power "creep" was too slow
Dread Return is 4 mana and has Flashback?
I mean we had cards like that for 10+ years now
Face general benefits more off ploriferation and direct poison aplications than infect/toxic/poisonous creatures with no evasion.
Why theft again, I'm getting so sick of it. :(
They should just stick with normal draw or recursion or something.
Stealing stuff from your opponents board or hand = theft. Casting them off the top of their deck isnt.
