Atrial fibrillation is a progressive disease that changes over time, which requires different goals of therapy, ablation strategies, and timing of ablation for the best outcomes. This talk was presented at the Cleveland Clinic’s 2019 Gobal EP Summit. We look forward to Global EP Summit 2020 in September
Speaker: Ayman Hussein, MD, staff cardiologist, Electrophysiology & Pacing

We need more numbers please! What do you consider early treatment? How long is too long to wait for an ablation as you try medication therapy? For such an important topic could you please share specifics? A doctor asked the first, and similar question, so I do not think it is a lark of understanding. Thank-you!

Great video, but as others have asked is there a calculation that could be used to determine the best time for a person to have an ablation? Like a chadsvasc score?
I have a structurally perfect heart, no underlying issues, I'm on no drugs, but I have paroxysmal AF. I've had only 3 AF episodes over 4 years. One lasted 10 minutes, the others about 1.5hrs. In all cases I reverted back to sinus rhythm without any intervention. When should I consider one? Thanks.

What is considered "early"? Is there a general time frame? What is the substrate in this case?

I had the same question, I’ve been having episodes of years. They would be very short and infrequent but could not be diagnosed through tests. It was elusive until 8 years later was diagnosed. I read that many people are like this. Infrequent episodes but it usual progresses to a point where it can be diagnosed. But that’s a good question, what’s early? And very early may not be beneficial long term in cases where the burden is very low (

I have atrial flutter and about to go through cardio version. Should I have chosen ablation instead?

I think no. Cardioversion is non-invasive and should be tried first. If that fails, then consider ablation.
