  • Take a virtual hike with me into Rice Creek Conservation Area located in Putnam County, Florida. A beautiful scenic wilderness in this part of the state that used to be a rice and indigo plantation during the 1700's. Today nature has reclaimed this place and exploring through here takes you back into old Florida and a pristine place to behold. Surrounded by dense hammocks, old trees and plenty of trails to roam. Along the way I check out a very old and large Cypress tree that still stands deep in these swamps. It is recorded as Florida's 7th largest Cypress tree, it stands tall in these swamps. Along the hike on the Florida Trail there are camping opportunities such as at the Rice Creek Hilton, a nice camping shelter along the Florida Trail here in this wilderness. One of the special highlights of this property is an historic levee built for an 18th century rice plantation that will take visitors along a walk into the heart of the swamp to view the seventh largest cypress tree in Florida. A portion of the Florida National Scenic Trail also traverses through the property. This portion of the trail includes Hoffman Crossing, an 1,886-foot narrow boardwalk the puts the hiker in the heart of the Rice Creek Swamp.

@@FLtrailblazer I imagine you are probably connected with the trail association you might be able to convince them to make a loop trail and a boardwalk to this particular tree

"Rice Creek Hilton"-- pretty droll, as far as hiking shelter names go. This facility is doubtless better than another famous (or rather, infamous) "Hilton": The "Hanoi Hilton" of the Vietnam Era, whose name wasn't exactly droll-- more like bitterly sardonic. 🤔🧐🇻🇳

THank for the great camera work. 6' minutes in, that section when there's more water, usually have about a dozen 1-3 yr gators hanging out. If y'll see them there, remember mama is a lot bigger at may be right there too, ya just haven't seen her yet.
