- Ukraine's Radioactive City: The Next Chernobyl? (Disaster Documentary) | Real Stories
An investigative documentary set in a Ukrainian city that is completely cut off from the outside world and that harbors a secret that costs more human lives with each day that passes. Many of the people who live here don't even know that a deadly disease has already established itself in their organs: cancer, triggered by radioactivity. Exclusive access provides the material for the portrait of a modern human tragedy that is virtually beyond comprehension, not only in the Chernobyl region - but also in Ukraine.

Hate to tell yah, but they’re free everywhere 😂

Thanks me too
I feel so bad for the people of Ukraine. They have had to deal with so much crap in their history. Invasions, wars, genocide, dictators, corrupt government officials, secret police, radioactive disasters, illnesses and I'm sure there are things I don't know of or are forgetting. They are some tough people. Stay strong Ukraine.
Not me, Ukraine is no different than any other Commy Warsaw Pact country. Period. They got what's coming to them no different. (Poor UA, poor, poor UA. Sick and tired of this..) Reality, Every country has their own lies they keep from their own people as well as problems they choose to hide. EVEN in the good ol U.S.A. Think we get told the truth about everything? OH HECK NO! We of the U.S. is the expert on cover ups. Its a business here. So all this tear jerking anti-Russian finger pointing is all just that. Pointless finger pointing. If anything, for some reason out of all the old-Warsaw Pact countries, this is the only one that is a money pit. You look up the word "donations", and you see a pic of Ukraine....
There isn't a single country on the planet that hasn't experienced all of that in their history, and you'd have a difficult time finding one that isn't experiencing at least 3 of those things at any one time now.
Doesn't matter what political ideology rules the government of any one country, the citizens within those countries won't be taught the ongoing consequences of any conflict, failures or absolutely shameful, unethical and humiliating losses of the past. Gets skimmed over as something that happened but doesn't mention the something that's happening. Best to glorify what went in a countries favour. Humans in general hate taking responsibility over someone else's wrongdoings too. Doesn't matter what it was, how big or how small, or how beneficial it can be for the future.
It's so terrifying and disturbing to think how many things are being kept from us and what happens to all those people who try to warn everyone else
Crimes against humanity doesn't always involve war.
Crimes against the nature (like nuclear power plants, chemical pesticides etc etc.) are always perpetrated by psychopathic minds, the "normalization" of evil.
I couldn't agree with you more 787.86. The rest of the world sit, watch and do nothing. Shame on us 🙈🙉🙊
@It'sOnly Me
True. And it isn't new. I was 16 when Chernobyl happened, and people here in Europe just watched, many were gleeful that the "Evil communists" got what they deserved. Unbelievable. (I live in Northern Europe)
@@isabellamusulo9190 this isn't from nuclear power, this is from nuclear weapons. Got to love communism
@@mcduck5 And what does communism have to do with any of it?
I shake my head in disgust. I found this documentary as a result of the current situation in the news. Very brave people. God help them.
What a depressing and scary story! I feel so sorry for those poor people.
Sadly there are a lot of such places around the world, most of them being in the post UdSSR
Thank you for taking the big risk to get this story out. Kudos to all the heroes in the film for speaking out. 🧡
Real stories is fast becoming what Vice used to be. Back when then covered actual news.
Agreed
Yeah Vice has become another propaganda outlet
Vice has gone down hill
Vice is garbage now
This comment is painfully accurate.
I used to live not far from this place when I was a kid. It was normal for us to play with friends and then hear from our moms something like “COME HOME, SOMETHING HAPPENED IN ZHOVTI VODY!”. And we ran quickly cause we were so afraid that something really bad had happened and…you know…that it’ll be as scary as Chernobyl. I was just a kid so I don’t remember much. It was in early 00’s
(sorry for my English)
English is great! I am happy you do not live there. I wish everyone could get away.
@@mbuck78 thank you! I live near mountains now. Yeah, I wish everyone could be safe and healthy 😢
The place is beautiful, so sad to know of it's contamination. Best wishes to all people who remain there. Also, your English is quite superb; way better than most of America's slang talkers☺️
I lived in Vinnitsya until I was 9 from 1983-1992, always played outside and never heard of any news about Chernobyl. It hurts me to see life of these people, I was lucky enough to come to Australia
Thanks for the voice over, many time's i can't watch without them. I watch on a small device, and can't read the small letters to read it, and my vision is bad from MS. Thanks for the video.
Even today, this is still going on..
This so reminds me of my childhood. These apartment buildings. These state hospitals. I was born in 1980 in communist Poland, even though I love my homeland as a kid thought that was the worst place. I lived in Warsaw and had to undergone therapy for weeks in 1986 when the Chernobyl explosion happened. I survived the effects of the nuclear effects on people. But these innocent collateral damage of a malevolent regime still live it every single day. The Ukrainian people never stood the chance. Then as part of the USSR and now again under its siege. As seen and proven by these participants in the film Their courage under the fire to speak and die for the truth is unparalleled.
This lady is amazing, thanks for such an interesting documentary. I send my love and best wishes to the people, families, of the Ukraine from the UK x
Such bravery to speak out. 🕊
Well this is concerning 😟
This is why you should protect people’s identities. Even if they doesn’t ask to cover themselves, you should still do it because as it is your job to gather information from these willing people to provide you with it, you should fully protect them in return to somewhat make sure nothing would happen to them ): 💔
I believe you are wrong. Why should she have to protect people's identities? Only in an oppressed country that supresses the TRUTH would it be necessary to hide identities but she's from the Ukraine and having the freedom to express yourself without fear is one of the reasons the Ukraine wants OUT of Russia
@@LuvThatDirtyWater you are correct these brave people just want heard and help
@@LuvThatDirtyWater yeah right! The USA is supposedly free unless you discover some dirty dead of a government agency that exposes something they don't want citizens to know about!
Its their choice. They aren't forced to show their faces....
Maybe they want their faces shown. Ever think of that ?..
Wait…. Did I seriously just hear was granted $150.00???? Wt actual F?! This is all too much for me I can’t even keep watching it. Disgusting that anyone is allowed to get away with this. It’s truly criminal.
A lot of admiration for the activists shedding light into this issue within their community and city.
Wow all those people in those units are dying of cancers. They even have ti pay for treatment. THEY can't so it's a case of them waiting to die.how awful
I guess if you live there it just seems normal for everyone to be sick. People need to just get on a bus and GTFO.
Its kind of scares me that Volodymyr Goncharenko has gotten murderd after he has spoken out against the currupt system he witnesses. And unfortunately you could not helped him, even did not write his name in the shownotes. He maybe was murderd because of this interview and that is so scary when you know that nobody is going to protect you. So in the end you just get mentioned in an article and thats it.
Other women got threatened not to enterview by government
Horrifying and so sad.
Man-made misery, what's new.

No no. I know what you were trying to do regardless of the modifier. Yulia Tymoshenko had every opportunity to fix the issues, but she didn't. Don't give me that "man-made" garbage unless you study the geopolitics of the region. You can have your 👉gas princess.
You're either a Western puppet or a Putin double agent. 🤔
Or just really ill-informed.
That journalism crew was brave. There was a comment about long term consequences and it’s true everywhere. Gotta get that money now, who cares if the land is made uninhabitable or people get sick?
If you feel so strongly you should destroy/recycle your cellphone, and never purchase another. Or is it okay for cobalt and lithium to be mined so long as you can check your FB, IG, Twitter, own/operate a motor, ect... Look around you.
Do you think Amazon has a magic machine that creates all this out of thin air.
You blame the manufacturer when you should grow up an look in the mirror and understand that companies wouldn't create a product if you the consumer didn't purchase it.
You do realize that women are the largest consumers of products on the planet right? Next time you watch television make a note to count the number of commercials geared towards women to men during peak marketing hours 400pm -9pm. You'll see I'm not wrong.
Beautiful people in a lovely countryside. I saddens me that business and governments don't do everything to take responsibility and correct the dangers. The people are strong and living life as best they can. Much admiration and my sympathy.
They are corrupt that's why the government isn't doing anything
Irresponsibility is a universal human trait primarily caused by greed
Kept there to die with the secrets.

It follows naturally that local officials would not allow their families to inhabit the danger zones.
It's an old fashioned company town, but in this case the company is Ukraine. I don't believe for a second that the top government doesn't know the death rate.
Greenest place in Ukraine, more like 2nd deadliest. It's worse than Chernobyl because people are living here.
It's really sad that these people have to suffer due to the radioactive contamination. I wonder what it is going to be like here in Canada and the US in the future. No one wants to take responsibility for the safe disposal of radioactive waste and the current trend is to build even more nuclear reactors. Our green energy future could turn out to be "bright green".
exactly same as there and no right to knowledge or complaints
Canada and USA sends his "dirty waste" to places like "Tomsk7" to be buried.
Not enough accountability for there to be nuclear anything.
No need to wait for the future, you'll have toxic waste in the ground close to you TODAY.
Nuclear energy is incredibly safe but ok
Tatayana has a beautiful face.Damn they killed the guy. Instead of covering up I don’t understand why they don’t just cleanup these hotspots. Those brave Ukrainians who are exposing this. I wonder how many other cities in Ukraine are severely contaminated.
The name of the city Zhotvi Vody (Yellow Water) seems apt for a Uranium mining city. It would be interesting to know when exactly this documentary was filmed. The documentary itself is shocking, though such corruption was the norm in Soviet times. The best thing for the inhabitants of the city would ironically be to have their city destroyed by Russia in her revanchist, imperialist war with Ukraine - which would mean they would have to be relocated somewhere free from Radon, itself the byproduct of radioactive disintegration.
Thanks a lot, good documentary
the only note I have - it's Dnipro city, not Dnipropetrovsk
Major props to this journalist for going above and beyond! Three cheers for her!
But does does anyone know who that "knowing nothing" song was performed by? It was awesome!
I wonder how they are today, now with this war.
Interesting to learn what year this was filmed in

Now they have to deal with war.
This is just so saddening. I send hope love and light. And I will donate too ❤️🧡💛💚
This poor planet :(
So Ukrainian regime government is as ruthless as old Soviet Union and current Russian government. That is most interesting because we in the West hear that Ukraine is democracy.
I believe this documentary was in 2013 before the people of Ukraine got true freedom and ousted Viktor Yanukovych after the Revolution of Dignity I believe he was given a safe place in Russia by Putin
Exactly ....... how corrupt they are ..... 10/2022 why are we helping them with war, from USA 🇺🇸 😡
I don't know how this lady is standing right in a Radioactive spot with no care. Being exposed to Radioactivity means little electric particles are flying at high speed through your body taking parts of your DNA with it. 9x the level is equal to a Nuclear Accident scene. That guy said it was 10x the level!
Why havnt they treated that town like Pripyat. And have an exclusionary zone and get them out of there. They keep maiming your people. Thats just sad! Such an eye opener to have watched this!
Thank you for this. The people of the Ukraine are so brave and have full hearts. They have been through so much and have a long history. We can learn so much from them. May their hearts and bravery, never end and always be filled with light🌻💟
Great documentary. Not crazy about the music but still enjoyed it very much.
Yes pretty weird choices for music
It is ukrainian music and the words in the songs are kind of in tune with the theme of this film so ....
I don’t get it…. The people keep saying there is nothing to do you just go on living. No, you don’t!! Not if you stay there! You need to LEAVE!!
If the authorities were forced to work there and live there with their families, something would definitely be done sooner.

[2022/02/19] This documentairy is from 2013. I hope today things have change in Ukraine and aren't that corrupt as they were then, and people are not chased after for giving their opinion. But with Russian troops surrounded across it's borders, things can change again in a negative way.
Corruption is everywhere in governments
That thumbnails the main character from dead man walking lmao
We adopted two girls from Chernobyl in 1990s to get fresh air here in Ireland it was very common the Irish government organised everything and paid for everything we just had to feed them give them toys and play with them I was 8 . They didn't speak any English so we couldn't talk just play. sadly they had to go home eventually to their parents. I always wondered what ever happened to them ??
Nice video
Uranium has been replaced by hydrochloric acid, yea! I guess. This video highlights why we fight for freedom. That this poor man was walking around with leukemia and was told he was fine is a testament to lack of competent medical schools. The lack of care for people, their own people, is sickening. The world knows, but what can we do?
Crazy, crazy world.
Just think about this for a moment. The cost of a healthcare even at the bare minimum for an entire city, their children and generations later most likely is 10 times greater than cleaning the city appropriately when it was the time. But when it comes to us, the Central and Eastern European people, nobody ever things ahead and then generations pay for those worst decisions. There was lots of talks how much the statistical data was missing. Nothing new. Wasn’t it Stalin who said, that one death of a human being is an individual tragedy but death of millions is just statistics. This played in my head all the time during this film.
I find it odd that so many people had testing done, and that they were told the tests are clear, you are fine. God must have watched over these people so that the truth would come out. God bless everyone.
Which city is this?

These poor people can do nothing to help themselves….
We always want good things in life. And a comfortable life. When people invent things to make life more comfortable we want to complain about side effects. Then we want to blame other people.
