  • Ukraine's Radioactive City: The Next Chernobyl? (Disaster Documentary) | Real Stories
An investigative documentary set in a Ukrainian city that is completely cut off from the outside world and that harbors a secret that costs more human lives with each day that passes. Many of the people who live here don't even know that a deadly disease has already established itself in their organs: cancer, triggered by radioactivity. Exclusive access provides the material for the portrait of a modern human tragedy that is virtually beyond comprehension, not only in the Chernobyl region - but also in Ukraine.

I feel so bad for the people of Ukraine. They have had to deal with so much crap in their history. Invasions, wars, genocide, dictators, corrupt government officials, secret police, radioactive disasters, illnesses and I'm sure there are things I don't know of or are forgetting. They are some tough people. Stay strong Ukraine.

Not me, Ukraine is no different than any other Commy Warsaw Pact country. Period. They got what's coming to them no different. (Poor UA, poor, poor UA. Sick and tired of this..) Reality, Every country has their own lies they keep from their own people as well as problems they choose to hide. EVEN in the good ol U.S.A. Think we get told the truth about everything? OH HECK NO! We of the U.S. is the expert on cover ups. Its a business here. So all this tear jerking anti-Russian finger pointing is all just that. Pointless finger pointing. If anything, for some reason out of all the old-Warsaw Pact countries, this is the only one that is a money pit. You look up the word "donations", and you see a pic of Ukraine....

There isn't a single country on the planet that hasn't experienced all of that in their history, and you'd have a difficult time finding one that isn't experiencing at least 3 of those things at any one time now.
Doesn't matter what political ideology rules the government of any one country, the citizens within those countries won't be taught the ongoing consequences of any conflict, failures or absolutely shameful, unethical and humiliating losses of the past. Gets skimmed over as something that happened but doesn't mention the something that's happening. Best to glorify what went in a countries favour. Humans in general hate taking responsibility over someone else's wrongdoings too. Doesn't matter what it was, how big or how small, or how beneficial it can be for the future.

I was born in 1980 in communist Poland, even though I love my homeland as a kid thought that was the worst place. I lived in Warsaw and had to undergone therapy for weeks in 1986 when the Chernobyl explosion happened. I survived the effects of the nuclear effects on people. But these innocent collateral damage of a malevolent regime still live it every single day. The Ukrainian people never stood the chance. Then as part of the USSR and now again under its siege. As seen and proven by these participants in the film Their courage under the fire to speak and die for the truth is unparalleled.

The name of the city Zhotvi Vody (Yellow Water) seems apt for a Uranium mining city. It would be interesting to know when exactly this documentary was filmed. The documentary itself is shocking, though such corruption was the norm in Soviet times. The best thing for the inhabitants of the city would ironically be to have their city destroyed by Russia in her revanchist, imperialist war with Ukraine - which would mean they would have to be relocated somewhere free from Radon, itself the byproduct of radioactive disintegration.

Just think about this for a moment. The cost of a healthcare even at the bare minimum for an entire city, their children and generations later most likely is 10 times greater than cleaning the city appropriately when it was the time. But when it comes to us, the Central and Eastern European people, nobody ever things ahead and then generations pay for those worst decisions. There was lots of talks how much the statistical data was missing. Nothing new. Wasn’t it Stalin who said, that one death of a human being is an individual tragedy but death of millions is just statistics. This played in my head all the time during this film.

We always want good things in life. And a comfortable life. When people invent things to make life more comfortable we want to complain about side effects. Then we want to blame other people. We as a civilisation should take responsibility as well, for wanting, and for never having enough. The normal everyday civilisation is fully to blame
