Super glad to see this video. I’ve dropped reels in the water before and not known what to do, it’s nice to see I’m not the only one. I appreciate seeing the honest side of creek fishing.
Thanks Alex! I was not super glad to make this video lol but I try to always be honest with my content. This crap happened - rather than trashing the footage, I wanted to embrace it haha
A few years back I tries U.Lite and haven't looked back since. 1st rod 4'8'' 2nd rod Same. Now I'm up to a 5 footer and lot's of creature baits. All for a bass that I throw back in after catching. Keep it up !!
I watched this specifically because I decorated the roof of my neighbor’s dock this morning with a hook and lure after a moron cast (for the second time in a month). This vid made me feel better about myself. So all you viewers, subscribe to this channel for both fishing, and self-help applications.
Hi! Very useful video, mate. I think you know it, but to someone who don't: there is one nice solution to protect the cork from dirt and other stuff instead of using plastic - just put a thin layer of "cork seal" on the handle of your rod. If put two or more layers, it can cause the "plastic" effect, but one layer save the smoothness and warm feel of cork with a little bit of color change.
I'm going to start calling you the deer whisperer because you see a lot of deer when out fishing. However, I'm not blaming the plastic for dropping your rod/reel into the drink. I'm blaming the deer. They distracted you and I think they are out to get you! 🦌. Nice quick tutorial on reel maintenance, which I never do and should. Great new species. I've never caught a white perch myself. And new callsign: SBF - Scattered Brain Fisherman 😜
Lol scatter brained fisherman is probably what my channel should be called. And yeah this trout stream has tons of deer roaming it all the time. Always neat to admire them!
Great video! No worries accidents happen haha. The deeper you get into bfs the more meticulous you will get 😂👍. Flushing bearings, high speed bearing oil, and anything to extract a little extra distance with the lightest of lures. Looks like a super fun setup!
@@FishAnything thats all that matters 😁👍. Some of it isn't too bad. Pretty amazing the performance increases with some simple stuff. Flushing the bearings and using a tiny drop of high speed bearing oil helps a ton. Crazy how much too much or too thick of oil slows the spool down. I'm glad your enjoying it 👍
I got some u40 cork sealer from tackle warehouse for all my cork handle rods. Clean them with a magic eraser and then put a light coat on and their done. Super easy and good stuff. It's a little jar but i did twenty of my rods and I still have half a jar left.
Glad you were able to salvage your new reel. (Still a bit puzzled by the whole BFS thing, Seems like picking a needless fight with the laws of physics.)
You probably don't need me telling you that your channel is going to do extremely well, I'm a new subscriber and I don't sub to a bunch of fishing channels but I have checked out quite a few over the last 3 years and I am so glad that your channel found me in the suggested list, probably because I got on this Ned rig kick again this year after seriously injuring my left hand and missing ALL of last season except for 3 trips out late last year after my surgery. I was ready to fish it all last year until that crap happened. But after watching a few of your videos I subscribed to your channel. I have already learned much more about the ned rig and really enjoy your personality. Anyways, sorry for the ramble 😅 Two thumbs up and much success on the channel!! 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻✌🏻
J.T. this is incredibly kind of you to say. UA-cam is a unique hobby and it is always incredibly motivating to get comments like this so it really does mean a lot. And I am glad you are recovering and able to fish again - that would be seriously tough! Also... Ned Rig 4 Life :)
That's a bummer, you can use some u40 cork sealer to protect your handles. You can also use semi gloss polyurethane, i_fish channel on UA-cam has a great video on sealing cork handles.
It’s funny white perch are like the most plentiful fish where I am, but dinkmaster Ethan’s never seen one. I’d probably call a drum a pike if I ever catch one though lol
Haha yeah I am telling you that this fish was a true surprise. I used to catch White Bass all the time in Kansas, but White Perch is completely foreign to me!
Online Outdoorsman white bass are cool I’d like to catch one, its kind of like a mini striper. I went smallie fishing in a river yesterday and thought I was getting hits from huge bass but it turns out it was hickory shad and I started slamming them. I also just saw a snakehead for the first time the other day. Oddly seems very multi species lately lol
Bro I got my first DC reel last year the slx dc to be specific. And my rod slipped off the boat 😤🤬😥. It was dark at that time so I came back the next day and fished it out with a different rod. I was sure it was toast but alas. 💯🎣✔️ It was totally fine
Do you ever notice a difference in the amount of bites you get with hi-vis line? I noticed I got less bites on my ned rig setup when using straight braid, usually I have a fluoro leader but I feel it takes away from the rods sensitivity tbh. Maybe my leader is too long? Or I should just take the braid off and try some different line 🤔
I personally prefer to use a leader but I just really like the way light mono performs on reels. Hi-Vis is easier for me to detect bites and I am sure it may cost me one finicky fish or two, but I usually don't sweat it too much. 1) the diameter is very low so it is likely still near invisible 2) even if the fish see the chartreuse line, that is not much different than the fact that numerous fishing lures have a chartreuse flash in them. Does a bit of color to the line actually matter?
9:45 man you got class. Blurring out that fishes private ls was purely respectful. Most dudes just objectify these fish. The creek chub is especially disrespected. Good man, good man lol great vid as always.
I think that would be a killer setup for multispecies! Panfish won't fight quite as hard as an UL but it will definitely handle bass & trout a bit better.
Nice fishing, that is literally the same exact rod that I ordered and arrived last week! I Also got a Calcutta Conquest BFS reel from Japan, that arrived hours ago. I set the reel up earlier with some 4lb berkely fireline crystal, and dialed it in a bit with a broken 2 gram strike king bitsy pond minnow, casting in my front and across the street. I have a few of those lures where the lip broke off, and I use them as casting plugs. I guess I have never dunked any of my reels like that, but I would want to flush it with water to get all the mud and dirt out if that happened. If It's already been in the water, a little flushing won't make it any worse. I have flushed 2 of my BFS reels after using them in brackish water with no problems. Anyways I really like using shorter rods, like maybe around over 4 foot to around 5'6" is nice. I do have a Rosewood 6'0 UL 2 piece king which is nice, and a Abu Garcia Xross field 2 piece 6'6" ML that is really good as well. A awhile before watching this video, I ordered 4 husky jerk hj-6 jerk baits in a few colors. The gh100 is a fun reel, hands down, and I think the break system is on par with the Shimano BFS reels. It's a damn good copy! I would love to see them make a gh100 variation with a aluminum frame, then it would totally be on.
You clearly know a lot more than me about BFS! I am not a super "technical" person so I am not as detail-oriented as you. I wish I was - might need to be something I work on. I know that if I become more detail-oriented, I will probably enjoy BFS even more! That Calcutta Conquest / Troutino combo sounds like it would be AWESOME. I love this rod & never knew how much I would enjoy fishing with such short setups. Super fun!
@@FishAnything one thing I don't like about the troutino rod is, there's no hook hanger! It should be illegal for rod makers to not put them on every rod these days, especially a rod that costs 160$! But thank goodness it's extremely easy to add your own hook hanger. I have put them on rods before, and that's what I'm doing with my troutino. I bent a piece of wire I use for building inline spinners/ spinner baits, into a 'U' shape loop. Bent part of it facing outward, and lashed it to the rod shaft half an inch above the rod handle, with fly tying threads. I'm gonna put some UV resin on it, and put it under the UV lamp for a little bit, and it'll be ready to go! I think I did a way better job with the thread wrapping on this one, than my other ones.

@@FishAnything I almost did lol. Lucky for me shimano knew things like this have the potential for happening and they water proofed the digital part. Thing casts a mile and it rarely backlashes unless I am being stupid.
@@FishAnything i decided that life is to short. I will always try to make the best out of a bad situation!!!!! do not know why people leave the plastic on the rods they need too be able to hang on to them and that hinders them from doing that you can always clean your rods.
Am i the only one who finds it a bit ridiculous that this reel cant even handle getting dunked in water one time? I mean, i get it, look out for your equipment, but that seems like quite a low standard. Its fishing, stuff is going to get wet and it should be able to do so with no noticeable loss in performance....
I agree that a reel should be able to handle it. This, however, is a cheap reel with very light components so it is going to be a bit finicky. That said, after a good cleaning, it is back in business!
@@FishAnything fair enough. I guess thats the tradeoff for a low price, and its good that there are entry options to bfs, even if they arent perfect. It was just a shock to me because i mostly fish with spinning gear in saltwater so stuff gets dunked often. Good video though man, keep posting!
Any reel can handle dunk in the water. The problem is dunk at the bottom, now your reel is full of sand and hello full disassembly and cleaning, and if you don't do that, sand particles will get farther and farther, reaching gears, bearings, other crucial parts and killing the reel. It does not matter 50$ or 500$ reel, no reel is protected from sand.
Nice to see an American bait casting without all that swapping of rod from one hand to another.

So at 9:45 of the video, is the creek chub a minor, it didn’t give you permission to film, or is it showing some naked parts? (Nice film editing. 😂)

It was just a Plano waterproof box of some type. Don’t recall exact model.
