  • all credit to @nikoyaps for inspiring me (I basically used his style for the video & thumbnail lol).
    I think UA-cam is changing for the better, and that's by bringing us back to what content used to be in the past. Before flashy editing and over-the-top personalities, content used to be simple.
    People have wanted it for so long, its no surprise that UA-cam has started recommending more authentic and simplistic content from creators like Niko and flowstate.
    Now, old school UA-cam is going viral again, and I'm really excited :)

    MatPat once said in an interview that he would alternate styles every 3 videos; 1 video for the algorithm, 1 video for himself, and one video for his audience. This always was a really weird quote for me because the more interested that the audience is, the better the algorithm should perform. I think that this video was the point where I finally understood what he meant by this and I would just like to say thanks for that!

    • @Gnidel
      @Gnidel 3 місяці тому +28

      Audience already subscribes, while algorithm recommends videos to new audience. What your audience wants all the time is usually more of the same, which might not be trending and is not good for expansion.

      @@GnidelI've got over 200 subscriptions. It could be more but every so often I remove creators who stopped making videos, who I got bored of, or whose style I've outgrown. How do you avoid that?
      Do a variety of videos. One for the audience is giving me what I came for to begin with and maybe I'll get tired of it and maybe I won't. One for the algorithm gives me a video that is in "style" and maybe it's what I'm looking for today and holds my interest while giving me a break so I don't get tired. One for YOU is something you are passionate about and that's the video that is most likely to make me go "Wow" and then I go back and watch other video's that maybe I skipped over in the past.

    Minecraft is the perfect look into this much larger issue both on UA-cam and across every content sharing platform. People used to be passionate about the content they were making, not the potential revenue they could get from it. Videos had genuine personality, and you really felt like you were sitting with a real person watching old UA-cam. There was so much authenticity when people created for the sake of creation. I know we’ll probably never go back to that with the mass monetization and corporatization of the internet, but god do I miss it.

      That's definitely a big part of it. In the early days, no one started a UA-cam channel with the intention of making money. Nowadays, that's a big reason a lot of people get into it. Even if it's not the main reason, it's usually a reason. Passive income? Hoping to quit your job? That's basically doing it for the money.
      UA-cam is also a career of sorts now. When it's your literal career, you can't get overly experimental and take risks unless you wanna risk missing rent. And UA-cam already basically forces creators to play to whatever "meta" the algorithm prefers.

      @@urphakeandgey6308 Yeah exactly - I don't have that worry due to personal reasons, so my UA-cam Channel is mainly used as an art space, for content I want to make - and one of the first things I wanted to do was to offer people something I felt was lacking lately, a channel where you don't have to worry about monetizing, memes flying left and right, and clickbaity thumbnails and videos - just videos I want to make myself!

Kinda harkening back to that absurdist humor era of UA-cam, and all my favorite content creators who did skit comedy with their content.
      Just being able to express myself and my creativity freely on camera without a mask, and making people laugh like I’ve always wanted to is a big dream of mine.

    • @urphakeandgey6308
      @urphakeandgey6308 3 місяці тому +10

      I agree, but UA-cam could easily prevent this from happening if they go too hard on censoring spicy content. I feel like current demonetization, algorithmic demotion, and shadow banning are big reasons as to why UA-cam started to feel so corporate, standardized, and inauthentic. It's hard for people to be truly authentic when the algorithm is constantly helicopter parenting their behavior.

    Ive found that the more i watch smaller channels, with storytelling as mentioned its more interesting, funny, and authentic.
    Hopefully a Renaissance of content comes again, we all need it.

    videos like this are just so relaxing, and it actually sounds like you care about what you're talking about. It's kind of why I just can't watch hermitcraft anymore, it doesn't feel like these people are having fun it reminds of how on the news they joke and banter like they're best friends. Anyways it just feels like fake forced fun. I just wanna watch people have fun playing a game I love.

    I’m a music major, and something I’ve learned about the music world-or life in general-is that we eventually maximize in one area so much that we eventually have to go back to basics; a return to form. Simplicity. This is what these old videos and the direction I believe UA-cam is heading, people are starting to get tired of wanting to be in the spotlight and maybe want to take a step back.

    I have never seen your channel, but youtube delivered this video to me. So i was deciding to watch this while having my lunch and i really liked it!
    I totally support your idea of relaxing the pressure on your own content, for the means youtube has laid upon creators for monetary interests.
    Your thoughts reminded me of Mark Fishers Philosophy. According to him nostalgia has some sort of political dimension to it, because it embraces refusing changes that are laid upon us externally. Simply saying no to the evolution of youtube as a medium and going back to times before certain changes, making alternate futures possible again.

    It gets a lot more niche and historical than this. Brahkie does these crazy authentic satires of mid-late 2000s online culture, and I mean every part of how old videos were from the subject matter to the personality to the aspect ratios. It's one thing to be minimalist, but her unwaivering dedication to historical accuracy is what makes me passionate about online video again even when the UX is doing everything in its power to push me away

    Honestly, as someone who’s been enjoying creating videos and keeping it simple by making my videos feel like it’s just some friends playing on the couch, it’s hard not to feel that pressure and cave in the editing thumbnails etc. This really inspired me to just keep it simple and enjoy making videos how I do instead of trying hyper optimize my content. I like to keep it genuine and how we experienced it. Thank you for this :)

    and like all other forms of art, content creation has for the first time come full circle. I don't think the return in of itself is particularly interesting because it *is* the trend of all art, but what I do think is interesting is the way it's changed within the cycle. Despite returning to some of the beloved simplicity of old content, some things are still different. The stories being told, the clean aesthetic being intentional rather than just what was thought of first. It's simplicity post-experimentation, refined in a new way. I'm very excited to see if this really turns into that paradigm shift.

I’m so glad you’ve reached this decision, new sub here

    I definitely get you dude. If you go to UA-cam in an incognito tab, the amount of brain rot on the home page is ridiculous. There's people that put years into growing their channel and it doesn't go anywhere but brainrot like Cocomelon gets hundreds of millions of views after a couple days of upload. Yes, I do like edited videos but they've become way too commercialized and "kid friendly". Flashy edits, sponsors, merch plugs, and a jump-cut every couple seconds feel like sensory overload at some point and it feels like I'm watching an action movie instead of a dude trying to survive a parasite apocalypse.

But, with the editing ways of everyone else and doing all the super over the top effects, i felt like my kind of content was no longer needed or wanted so i just kind of gave up in a way.. i have thought about rebooting but i dont know anymore haha

    "Less is more" is the general style of content I usually like best. It's the type I aim for. No over editing, no hyper analytics focused content, etc. It's very refreshing for me to see others also following the same format.
    I think people are tired of disingenuous, hyper edited content. People are finally realizing that constantly optimizing our videos is not the thing we want. We want a break!

    Love the content man! Not a daily viewer but I realized I was subbed to you already and was not disappointed. Ever since UA-cam went corporate these types of videos were inevitable especially with further censorship and the “Ad-pocalypse”. Nice to see you take a break on having more natural content that you just can let it out. But yeah, it’s with the times, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME you saw a “Let’s Play” title on UA-cam’s front page. I know some good ol gaming UA-camrs who still are relevant doing just pure live commentary but the scene is heavily saturated with what is trending and getting numbers. BUT MAN, just nothing, nothing, can beat that Pewdiepie Amnesia Let’s Play. Even a couple years ago Pewdipie dominated UA-cam when he went against T-Series. Now, just like him, I pretty much moved on from his content and in general life. Still will probably watch UA-cam until I die. Just post what you like and feel, I’ll see if I can tune in!
