Please don't ever apologize because you are having an off day. We all have them, we are so lucky that you even film these videos and put them on UA-cam. Keep up the great work.
Another awesome video Tom And the team ! And never be ashamed to show your humanity ! You care so much for the cattle the last clip of her playing shows your genuine joy from cow comfort !
When the slats fit THAT tightly, you're going to have a hard time getting them up next time around, because the rust between the concrete and slat will wedge it in even harder.
Run the saw on all the slats…as they oxidize the will only get tighter!,, go back and address before it gets bad. Also, the concrete could spall due to the rust expanding.
I thought the same, the old slats are a very weak design, with them turned perpendicular the steel is run from side to side in the strong axis and every little angle is a tiny beam.
Tom days can be like that, some days you don't seem to make any progress then another day you turn around and everything fits into place, and you have got a lot more done than you thought, you just have to keep cracking on. The cows do seem to keep being happier and happier, a happy cow makes a happy Tom
Something in the headstock of the manitou creaks when you crowd the bucket/forks. Likely one of the bushings not getting grease, perhaps the grease nipple is blocked. Maybe get the mechanics to have a look at it before it fails
we all get days we feel a bit down Tom, that is life and now we are going into winter, but you got that done, don't push your self to hard, i did that and burnt myself out
Now you just need some channels cut in the middle concrete to let your water drain. Looking good. It IS amazing how dark the former "good shed" seems after looking at your new one. Your cows look fantastic!
The new slats were built better actually. With the bars going in that direction they are much stronger, should allow muck to fall in easier, and decrease wear on the scraper. Hats off to the Wareing crew.
Slats going that direction will make it harder for muck to fall. The original ones were that way for a reason. As you scrap across them will push the muck in to tank. Muck can now keep pushing out into the yard the way the slats are
I think this was particular episode was very enlightening, yes you were having a difficult, frustrating day and you obviously felt a bit tired and emotional BUT you recognised this and more importantly realised tomorrow is another day imho it's so easy in a pressurised farming environment to lose the temp, charge on and end up with injuries and or frayed tempers. Looks like you adapted and overcome. Team Pemberton 👊👏👏
The new yard must dish a bit. Making a big water trap. Maybe you could put some fish in it 😆😆 Shame it didn’t slope a little into the slurry pit. Can you fill it in or put drains in?
That be the job is a stone track going down the side of the muck heap to the back doorway of the old shed so you can drive straight through the 2 sheds without reversing
Well done Tom & The Ginger Warrior, just a thought Tom, the 5 bar gate, the one that Vialimir the Impaler left behind on the farm, tis a chance perhaps a new top bar for the gate, just a thought. Nice to see the old 14LB Manchester screw driver in use to assist the fitting of the new grating.
Never be sorry for being human! Everyone has them days, it's all about getting up the next day with a new found positive attitude! Amazing video as per 😁♥️🐄
Hi Tom, I hope Ginge got on well at the doctor's. I had a knee replacement 4yrs ago and it's brilliant, I don't even know I have it. Tom it's good to show that you have an off day. Farming. I'm sure you never know what's around the corner. Fertilizer, food, treatments etc all add up and because we all watch you we realize how hard it is to be a farmer. Thanks Tom 👍👍👏👏👏👍👍
Tom...first problem you guys have is the tight fit, which will cause concrete to crack when metal expands, and like someone already said, when metal starts to rot, they will be even harder to remove. Best way to fit those slats is to make a bit bigger "L frame" and build it into concrete. Slat than fits in that metal frame... same way the shafts are made... With your situation, cutting edge of concrete edge forextra space needed for easy fit and expansion was the best, easiest idea and option to fit them... I think you should do same for all of them. But new slats should be much much stronger than old ones. Keep up with good work 🤘😎
Tom there’s a cracking old fashioned hardware store in Chorley called ASC timber supplies . It’s family run and they always seem to have everything and it’s what 30 mins from you . X
Great video Tom it’s a case of life’s up and downs they made the slats the other way because they are stronger less chances of them bending keep up with the great videos 👏👏👍👍
Another fantastic video by Tom Pemberton. On a side note, its important to know that not everyday is gonna be a good day. Even a decent day is still never guarantied, the only thing that is guarantied is their will be another day. Whether you are here to enjoy it, another day will always come. Keep your mindset open to the possibility of bad days, and they will come less frequently.
Since you a 9inch grinder you can buy stone cutting discs for them. And if you ever need to cut concrete or blocks/bricks you will have the tools on hand when you have to cut stone or metal
Run the stihl saw round all the edges of slats or one side at least between the metal and concrete thatll give you width of blade of space so they come out easy. 👍
The slats across the channel are much stronger than the ones a long the channel. Every slat holds weight where the long ones rely on just the end angles to hold the weight.
Might be worth getting some sort of identifier put on the slats so you know which one comes from which section over the pit, so when you’re putting them back in you won’t have to make so many adjustments.
Those slots are certainly very tight fitting good luck getting the other 3 slots out you should take the concrete saw and slice some concrete off so that it's easier to get those 3 slots out
I'd be worried they don't allow for expansion and may crack the new concrete. Lay a straight bit of timber along the edge to use as a guide for the grinder blade to run along and take a blades width off both sides.
Is where you are sorting the cows where the midden was previously? Can't properly tell because of all the new changes happening on the farm. If so I can't imagine how much better it was this go around,
Some of the comments below are right on the money. Lift those out carefully on a cold day and then cut the receiving holes out a quarter inch larger. Do this before they break your cement or you break your cement having to lift one on a hot summer day.
First thing I noticed was the slat direction lol, then it was wood ya forgot your wood man!!! as you were hammering the slats It sure does feel good to complete things.
Hi Tom, When the day comes to pull the grates out, get a fibre blade for cutting stone, and run it all round the edge of the grates, this will allow you to pull the grates out easy, the reason for a fibre blade is it won't kick or spark off the metal of the grates. . . By a box of 10, what you don't use that day you may use another 🤔
You won't be able to take the slats out in the summer due to the concrete and steel both expanding. The slats might buckle and break the welds as well when it gets warm, since there is no expansion space. You should grind the edge of the concrete hole out at least 1/4 around the entire edge. It would give 1/2" total expansion space and make it easy to take them out but not leave a huge gap.
I would imagine the new slats are running the direction they are for strength, seeing as you fell through thr old 1's I'd say you should be happier! Ha Ha!!
Sounds like big Ben, you hitting the slats. Looks like they're not painted though, that would make them last longer even though they are beefy. Just a thought. Tom.
would it have been a good idea to cut a blades width of the edge of the concreate to make them fit correctly? Never mind I watched further into the video.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but the slats should’ve be square which makes the stronger and you can originate them to the way the scraper tractor mucks over them The new ones will do your head in the muck just won’t fall
Being someone raised by people that installed fence. I would find a local fence co, and get them to make you some out of 2 inc ss40 galvanized steel tube. =)
Hi Tom. Nothing like dropping a socket in poo. When we use something new we say we're washing the stink off of it. You kinda.. well... yep, in reverse. Hahaha... Cheers. ~Mike and Ester~
Two problems here, first problem is when the sun comes out and they get hot they will move and either bow out or break the concrete. Second problem is when they have to come out after they have swollen up with rust they will break the concrete out.
Nice slats, get out the metal glider a shave it on both long side or cement cutting blade an notch out cement 1/8 inch both side. But Tom , wash the cement down on both side so you mates not working in poo.
I know hindsight is 20/20 and all that - but that standing water may become an issue - for future pours, try and get the chaps to put a slope in towards where you want the water to end up - rather than trying to go perfectly level. It may need a gully or a bit of a channel in that existing concrete though.
Every body has a bad day. A friend in a band said as an entertainer he found it exhausting to make every performance as excitement filled as the 1st but that's what entertainers have to do. It must be difficult as a farmer first and youtuber to deal with farm life and still remain as upbeat as you do.
Don't be mad about the new slats looking different to the old ones. Wearings has built them the other way cause the short steels are stronger when there that way. Greets from Germany.
I'm a bit OCD about some things, but the orientation of those slats would not bother me. Shorter lengths is better from an engineering point of view, and the refurbished ones serve as a reminder.

Run the saw on all the slats…as they oxidize the will only get tighter!,, go back and address before it gets bad. Also, the concrete could spall due to the rust expanding.
Next summer when the sun gets on the slats could cause them to expand, it's why you have expansion joints on bridges.
Always nice to wrap up the little things. Also nice to see the old scraper tractor back to work. 👍👍
Looks like they changed the direction of the slats too, should be much stronger that way.
I get your annoyance of all four slats not matching, but they will be so much stronger that way round. Top marks for thinking about it Warings!!
I thought the same, the old slats are a very weak design, with them turned perpendicular the steel is run from side to side in the strong axis and every little angle is a tiny beam.
Hi Tom, thanks for speaking slower. Much easier to understand. Lovely to get these jobs done. Congrats. Love that beautiful cow in dry shed.
Luke and Tom a great team father is the icing n the cake
"Pooh going down slats - woohoo!" Tom is easily pleased. 🤣
They’ll expand next summer and crack your concrete, I’d run a stihl saw down each side to free them up a bit
I use a magnet on a stick to pick up fallen screws/tools etc , as I have a knackered back , works for drains too👍👍
The grill patterns are perfectly symmetrical across the front of the shed. 100% perfect.
Luke is such a good guy. Maybe an interview with him? Hopefully I haven’t missed it if you did one already. Good farm help is so hard to find.

@@Alan-rn5ip Yea I can see that becoming a proper ball ache to muck out in the future.

Hello Tom can you do a video on the highlands when you bring them in? Don’t forget to give them bread, favorite video every year
You could benefit from a few gully drains in that yard, surprised how much standing water there is given all the concrete work that’s been done.
No disrespect to anyone, but the levels seem bit off. I could be wrong, but somethings a bit off.
The grading of that new concrete isn't all that swell. But if they had a gully drain there it would be great.

The slats across the channel are much stronger than the ones a long the channel. Every slat holds weight where the long ones rely on just the end angles to hold the weight.
Job well done and after seeing the muck scraped the new slate direction looks better for some reason. Thank you.
Might be worth getting some sort of identifier put on the slats so you know which one comes from which section over the pit, so when you’re putting them back in you won’t have to make so many adjustments.
It seems like those slats will be stronger going the other way because the span is shorter.
If you were to replace the tires on the silagepusher, you could go for a larger diametre, do it all in a single pass
Those slots are certainly very tight fitting good luck getting the other 3 slots out you should take the concrete saw and slice some concrete off so that it's easier to get those 3 slots out
Someone may have suggested it but disc cutter down the side of the slatt cut abit of the concrete out for a less tight fit
I'd be worried they don't allow for expansion and may crack the new concrete.
Lay a straight bit of timber along the edge to use as a guide for the grinder blade to run along and take a blades width off both sides.
