Jack Greene is one of the all time greats to be sure, but this song belongs to The Killer!!
I disagree, I think Jack's version is better, but it is all in a matter of taste. Never cared that much for the Killer

Aye, ultimately it's personal taste. At his best Jerry Lee for me is unbeatable. However, he wasn't always in top form. However, on this song JLL was great with that lonesome, lost sounding voice and slides and slurs, and superb piano accompaniment. There's a very fine version by Hank Williams Jr. on YT that's very well worth a listen.
Jack Green's voice to me seems fine enough but not particularly distinctive or remarkable, but I admit I've listened to very little of him. I'm not a huge Country fan, and it's mostly Jerry Lee I listen to whenever I do listen except now and again I'll compare other singers' versions - which is what brought me here.
@@gynack yea each song Jerry did was so distinctive and one of a kind. Greene's version is good, but it sounds bland and generic compared to Jerry's version. That's why Jerry will always be one of THE best musicians of all time.

I've listened to del Reeve's version now as well. It's good and I prefer it to Jack Greene's version. However, all other versions I've heard pale into insignificance beside Jerry Lee.
