Thanks for the video. I started having this issue about a year ago out of nowhere. Blasted it with WD40 last week when getting ready to air up after off-roading and its working perfectly again.
It's ironic that you are posting this now. I just went to a new shop last week for a quick oil change and they couldn't get my hood open so I had to leave. About five minutes later after hitting a pothole, it popped just enough to set off the alarm so I pulled over, opened it and shot some lithium grease on it. I took it as a sign not to use this shop since this was the first time my hood ever got stuck. I'm kinda glad to see it's not just me though.
Using grease is great yet it collects lots of contaminates over time and in doing so it causes more wear and tear on the moving friction surfaces. I found spraying Lithium grease less maintenance as it easily gets in the tighter areas, coats parts, and doesn't collect dust and debris nearly as much.
@@ronsmith8434 I'd probably lean more towards a lithium grease like this or even a white lithium grease - have seen that recommended for door latch mechanisms on my honda. WD40 will help for a little while but doesnt stick around and kinda breaks down any other grease or oil that might be present. I treat it more like a cleaner than a grease.

It is a relatively more common issue as the 3rd gen’s get older. Glad you were able to get it opened and greased!

I’ve literally been having this issue for 3 years. Tnx oil drop!
Happy to help!

@@nanopotato420 oh yeah, white lithium would be another great option in here. I address your exact concern in the video actually 🍻 good words!
I spray fluid film all over that mechanism.
Yep also a good idea, prevents it from rusting (which they really seem to do quickly)

How to uncrispify your hood latch😮
From 🍗 to 🧈
WD40 should do it too?
@@ronsmith8434sure can!
@@ronsmith8434I’d be fine with just about any auto lubricant here. It’s such simple spot that doesn’t deal with heat or much friction
