I vacation up in Maine every year not to far from Bar Harbor. I absolutely love this state and everything it has to offer. I catch tons of trout every year but I just caught my first Maine brown trout unexpectedly this July and it was a real nice fish at 18” and just under 3 lbs. Keep up the great channel and your fishing adventures!!! Tight lines!
What are the best small streams to fish in Acadia national park for trout? I’m up here for vacation and really like the stream your fishing in this video
Amazing video and editing. Beautiful footage. A neighbor took me native brook trout fishing in NH when I was a little kid and it became my favorite kind of fishing. Thanks for taking us along and not giving up.
That was quite the rig for little stream brookies first time I ever see a bait caster used for them as well. Nice job keep up these north woods catch and cooks I enjoy them
So you don't need to scale them? What about the rib bones? I'm not familiar with freshwater trout; all we have are saltwater types (speckled trout, sand trout). Looks tasty. Many of the residents here in south Louisiana have Acadian descendants. In fact, the south central part of the state is called Acadiana.
Nope, they don't have scales and the ribs come right out if you cooked it just right. Yeah, they moved when they were going to be deported back to France. but some remained and their presence was a big impact on the culture up here as well. actually, in my most recent video, I made some ployes. those were a big part of the Acadians cooking up here anyway
@@tylerhamilton8245 I'll get it up there for you at one point all I got were salmon this weekend. Come to think of it I might still have a brook trout in the freezer. hmmm might be able to do that sooner than I thought!
You’ll should my suggestion would be to just use your phone at first and see if you like it if so then get some better cameras and go from there. Best of luck!
I'm going up to lobster lake with my father and a friend of ours either the second or third week in June we were going to go a few weeks ago but the weather is so messed up this year rain every other day.
I’ve never been but I’ve heard great things about that lake. Not necessarily the fishing but I guess the scenery is beautiful. Definitely on my list. Best of luck!!
Found your channel today and enjoyed watching! I liked and subscribed. I also live in the beautiful State of Maine in the Bangor area and enjoy the great outdoors. My channel is Wilderness Academy. All the very best!
Great vid ! I really enjoy the catch and cook videos you post . What is your favorite fly for maine trout ? I love the mudler minnow myself, it's almost fool proof.
Thanks, I'll be finishing up the mod November deer season with a catch and cook just to round it out. Then I'll be back out on the water the week after. Love that fly along with woolly buggers, but since I am a huge fan of the dry fly my pick for brook trout in Maine goes to the classic royal coachman.
I like to eat the small fish since its less likely to make it to a breeding age. Heres a video I made on what I consider to be a few of the most humane ways to dispatch ua-cam.com/video/qI1rAyTeiPg/v-deo.html
Yup this is on island. I have yet to find any good streams to fish but as long as the stream connects with those lakes and ponds you’ll find them in pockets
Definitely they don’t have scales and most of the fat an oil is found in the skin of brook trout. If you throw it out your loosing a lot of the flavor and nutrition
Bro, come on, there’s little to no meat on those. This is why our trout populations are where they are because people continuously take trout like that. Go to Whole Foods and buy a trout
Mike Walters : so following the regulations by measurement isn't good enough? The trout in whole foods are farmed, didn't get to live a full life. These little guys(I agree they're a bit small for me to take, but that may be the size they get around those parts) were within regulation size to keep, lived the way they're supposed to and were enjoyed
I usually harvest small fish because they are not able to breed yet and are less likely to make to reach sexual maturity. I prefer to return the breeders back to the waters if they're unharmed.
Google, Brook Trout decline and you will see why I think my opinion. I love fly fishing and fish a few times a week but if I want some trout I go to the local Whole Foods
Mike Walters : Just did, it states that 60% to 80% of the brook trout habitat has been impacted by acid rain in the Appalachian area. I understand your perspective now, but I'm still left wondering, why is regulation size of acceptable brook trout different (larger size for harvest) than described in the video?
R personally, I’m a advocate of pure catch and release. These fish become sexually active around 4 years of age. The size of the fish doesn’t tell you age as different environmental factors allow different growth rates. To me, it’s like why kill these fish for virtually no food? They are good eating, I don’t deny that but they soon will become endangered between environmental factors and over harvesting.
Thanks for the catch n cook ...enjoyed your vid
Thanks for watching!
This was a great video
Thanks that was one of my first. They have definitely changed a lot since then
Perfect, Very Nice.
Its that time of year again. Great video!
I live in Acadia and would like to know if there actually are trout in the first stream? P. S. keep up the good work!

Thank you for sharing the video. It gets no better than brook fishing!
Here's some feedback for you...don't change anything!!! Your videos make me want to pack my family up and move to Maine!
That's a good sign! I'll just work on improving the video quality than. Thanks for watching!

Thanks glad you like it. Brook trout are my favorite as well. It can be challenging at times (depending where you go) but well worth it in the end.
Thank you
Heck ya man! Nice to see another guy making videos from Maine! Just started making mine lol

Thanks I’ll be getting back to more in the summer. My GoPro batteries die so fast when I’m ice fishing so that hasn’t worked out.
Saw your comment on Fishermans Life video and had to check you out.
Thanks for checking it out! Any thoughts for improvment?
MainelyOutDoors You should give us some tips, advice, and show us what your usin. Otherwise im a fan.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I can definitely work that in.
Love it dude, keep doing your thing.
I use to fish the Brooks when I lived in Norway/Oxford, Maine . 70's . My sister is visiting this week.
Maybe its time to get back out there!

Haha me too now that I think of it! Got to work with what you have I guess. Thanks, I'm excited to get back out there this spring.
I couldn't cast that trout lure with my bait caster

just go for it, i can say from experience it will never be quite good enough but it works out and your get use to doing it
I grew up fishing for trout like this. We always would fry them up back at camp.
Nothing better!
Woodstock, NH I believe.
I caught some beautiful native brookies in the Lakes region of NH. Gonna make for a delicious breakfast in the morning

Where is this?
Hey bro just seeing this vid Also love on mdi I was looking for brookie spots 👍🏿
There’s not too many but you’ll find some in the streams and plenty of stocked ponds too
@@MainelyOutDoors fire video! What stocked ponds in Acadia??????
Most of them an echo lake look it up
Kinda wondering why you had a fire and a pan. The fire would have been ideal to cook those brookies on.
Maybe next time. I wanted to keep the fire going with some green wood to knock the bugs back a bit.
As a non Maine resident, do you need a license to fish brooks/ponds/lakes? I don’t think you do for Ocean…. Just wondering if you know. :)
What do you do as your primary job
Im a graduate student, I answered that question in my Q and A if you want to check that out.
I really enjoyed this video. That area reminds me a lot of northern Michigan. Keep it up, you definitely earned my sub!
Thanks, Andy!
What cameras are you using just GoPros?
Yeah, just GoPros. Wish I had the 7 but the 6 is pretty good. Unfortunately, they get pretty grainy in low light.
MainelyOutDoors That’s awesome, you have some amazing shots with it! The seven is on my list as well!

All good except for the fire. Could have done without it. Also, it’s not legal.
I usually throw them back but would like to start getting in to catch and cooks. What is the most humane way to kill these after a catch?

It was a great day. Fresh bookies are always a treat!
you fishin at duck brook?i use to skinny dip there in the 70's. That pond is called B.A.D. nice brookies
NO wonder there's no fish hahahha! you still have them scared. That's pretty funny though don't think its referred to as B A D anymore
